One of the most anticipated films of next year is undoubtedly Marvel Studios' Captain America: The First Avenger. The Joe Johnston directed project already has many of it's important roles revealed: Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter), Hugo Weaving (Johann Schmidt/Red Skull), Tommy Lee Jones (Gen. Chester Philips), Stanley Tucci (Dr. Abraham Erskine), Neal McDonough (Dum Dum Dugan), Dominic Cooper (Howard Stark), Toby Jones (Arnim Zola) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury); with more sure to be revealed as production progresses.

Today marks the day Captain America begins production in England; with Manhattan Beach, California, included on the docket for later production work. Unfortunately, production start dates rarely mean filming has commenced. Joss Whedon, who has been tapped as the director for Marvel Studios' 2012 ensemble film, The Avengers, has also spent the past few weeks in London with the Captain America movie crew.

In case you've missed it, here is, what has been rumored to be, the film's official synopsis:

'Based on the Marvel Comics character from World War II. A brave, yet mild-mannered, young soldier named Steve Rogers volunteers to undergo a series of experiments for the US Army Super Soldier program. The military succeeds in transforming him into a human weapon, but quickly decide that their Super Soldier is far too expensive a creation to risk in combat. They decide to put him to use as an Army celebrity and parade him across Europe to boost morale by performing in USO shows for American troops. He is even given a costume that bear the colors of Old Glory for the stage. When a Nazi plot reveals itself, Rogers must rise up as the First Avenger in order to save his country. Steve Rogers becomes Captain America and earns his way into the hearts and souls of every American, bringing hope and justice to a war-weary nation. Later, during a mission to Germany to stop his archenemy - The Red Skull, from launching rockets at the allies, Captain America sacrifices himself and winds up frozen in ice for almost six decades. Revived, Steve Rogers must now join forces with new heroes and become an Avenger of the modern age.'

If you are still interested in auditioning for a possible role in The First Avenger, Feature Film Casting has provided updated contact information for the film's casting directors:

A theatrical release date of July 22nd, 2011 has been set by the studio. Let the countdown officially begin, only 419 days to go.
