Here is your first look at a CGI rendering of Tomar-Re, Hal Jordan's spiritual guide, in the DC comics adaptation Green Lantern. Is this what the character will look like in the finished film?

When the live-action Green Lantern film hits theaters next summer, audiences will not only be introduced to the character Hal Jordan (portrayed by Ryan Reynolds), but his "support staff" of alien Lantern Corps members who help him learn the ways of patrolling the universe. The most important three being Thaal Sinestro, Hal's mentor, Kilowog, his drill instructor, and Tomar-Re, who has been dubbed by the film's production department as Hal's 'spiritual guide.'

According to DC comics mythology: Tomar-Re was a scientist on the planet Xudar before joining the Green Lantern Corps. He became a pivotal member of the Corps, training new members and serving in the Honor Guard. He was close friends with Abin Sur, Green Lantern of neighboring sector 2814 and was the first Lantern Corps member to meet his replacement, Hal Jordan.

Tomar's most famous mission while serving in the Corps dealt with the planet Krypton. Krypton, a planet in Sector 2813, was growing increasingly unstable. It was due to explode, caused by internal pressures deep inside the planet's core. Tomar-Re sought to use a rare compound called Stellarium to absorb some of the tectonic pressure, thus saving the Kryptonians. He gathered the compound, and was en route to Krypton when a yellow solar flare blinded him, and forced him to drop the stellarium. He quickly recovered, but discovered he was blind. He gathered what little stellarium he could without his sight, and proceeded towards Krypton. He was closing in when his vision started to clear. The first thing he saw upon his sight returning was Krypton exploding. The Guardians of the Universe recovered Tomar and brought him back to Oa, where he healed and rested.

InTylerWeTrust - 8/16/2010, 7:22 PM
This is great. Tomar Re looks awesome, but I LOVE the look of his suit even more. And I really warmed up to Kilowog, I dig his look, and he seems appropriately huge in size.

Fantastic stuff Poni :)

claybo4131 - 8/16/2010, 7:31 PM
Will be interesting if he brings up something that hints at Krypton in the movie to Hal, would be interesting.

Now we need to know who will voice them

One other thing, hope they dont kill him off like they did in First Flight
DCMarvelFreshman - 8/16/2010, 7:34 PM
I've never seen A GL comics, but it will be interesting see these aliens/monster/creatures/characters on screen.
BruceWayneNewton - 8/16/2010, 7:34 PM
amazing
claybo4131 - 8/16/2010, 7:37 PM
@nopurpose I looked at it closely, you can tell that they are cardboard cutouts.

If you look at that second photo, and look closely, you can tell it is flat, which they more than likely used for the stand-in parts for Ryan Reynolds and Mark Strong to interact with the other members of the corp.
THEMRTERRIFIC - 8/16/2010, 7:37 PM
AWESOME!! Tomar looks good, Kilowog...not so much!
InstigatorGIRL - 8/16/2010, 7:38 PM

P862010 - 8/16/2010, 7:47 PM
kilwog is really intimidating

he really looks like some drill Sargent that would make you piss your pants
secretasianboy - 8/16/2010, 7:47 PM
great that it doesn't look cartonny
claybo4131 - 8/16/2010, 7:48 PM
@nopurpose you said they were the same as the concept images. The probably just used the images to make the cardboard cutout standins for the film. Notice on Tomar there arent any shadows, if it was a dummy-maniquene stand in there would be shadowns. When you said they were exactly like the concept art, I looked closer at the photo and noticed it was a cardboard cutout.
comics56 - 8/16/2010, 7:49 PM
It looks lot with the conceptual design. Diferent from Kilowog. Want to see the Guardians of The Universe!! Krona!! Parallax!!! And I am sure that Eon will be featured!
Nytwng77043 - 8/16/2010, 7:49 PM
I still have the same hitch that is on EVERYONE'S mind...

FOOTAGE!!!! Please correct me if I'm wrong.
GreenHalJordan - 8/16/2010, 7:51 PM

Upupandaway - 8/16/2010, 8:02 PM
@John- I'm not bashing at all and know that these are cgi that will be improved on. But there is a such thing as too much green: : )

Batman Forever #1 (Riddler) Pictures, Images and Photos

I'm really looking forward to this movie. Looks like Campbell is putting a lot of love into it, which I love. GL is a great character(s) that deserves some spotlight time.
Anthony3 - 8/16/2010, 8:05 PM
Awesome.
superman7 - 8/16/2010, 8:06 PM
Poni:

what body part did you sacrifice to which comic god to get all this juicy info on the GL movie?
B/c i have about 3 too many testicles to spare for this kind of information and inside access.
PieFace - 8/16/2010, 8:07 PM
JIIIZZZZZZ!!!

*oops, sorry..
PieFace - 8/16/2010, 8:08 PM

NightAvenger - 8/16/2010, 8:12 PM
This looks AWESOME!
Codeseven - 8/16/2010, 8:14 PM
superman7@ he sacrificed his 3" penis and left small pinky toe.
Protonite - 8/16/2010, 8:17 PM
I bet it's Sinestro, Salaak or the Guardians for the comic-book reveal.
AlternateNo4 - 8/16/2010, 8:18 PM
you know, i still have a little nitpick here and a little gripe there... but as each new character design is revealed i'm starting to see the pattern to the concepts and it makes me feel a little more confident AND excited.

yes the faces are becoming slightly more humanized and more emotive, so they can "act" more believably... but the BODIES are being made even MORE alien than the comics, so that even the ones that were naively drawn as "humans with funny heads" back in 1960 are being reconceived as completely distinct species that have divergent skeletal and muscular structures despite all being erect-bipedal. i am EXTREMELY impressed with the dedication being shown and the seriousness of the designers.

i know we won't see the trailer for a while, but i am VERY eager to see how each species looks as it moves... hopefully there will be a distinct gait created for each that will integrate with its unique physiology.
Casinoskunk - 8/16/2010, 8:19 PM
This looks different than the Tomar Re footage from Comic Con. I am not saying this isn't from the movie, i am just passing along this info.

Maybe all of these are still works in progress. It is weird that these CG images are shown in front of a blue screen with tracking markers. that does not makes sense.
Casinoskunk - 8/16/2010, 8:21 PM
There is also something very phony about the inclusion of Kilowog in this. it is THE exact same shot at from the image last week.
AlternateNo4 - 8/16/2010, 8:26 PM
tomar has sloping shoulders and almost zero pectorals... not so birdlike but very reptilian. and look at the uniform "skin" on kilowog, which is ridged into "plates" almost like a rhinoceros... combined with those insane traps and low-slung shoulder joints, it makes him look like a charging rhino that's rearing up on his back legs. imagine all that power crashing down on you! he needs to move like he can barely lift his own muscles.
BIGBMH - 8/16/2010, 8:28 PM
I like it.
AlternateNo4 - 8/16/2010, 8:29 PM
@casinoskunk—it IS the same kilowog shot... a couple of people figured out that these appear to be cardboard cutouts used as references for human actors to shoot next to, so they can "look" at the other characters at the correct height, distance, etc.

if it's different from comic-con, i wonder which is more recent. and what differences do you think are most major? most of us didn't see the con stuff so help us out!
