In 1996, Randy Queen unleashed what was to become one of the most critically and financially successful comic properties of the decade: Darkchylde. It is the story of a cursed teen, Ariel Chylde, who can become the creatures from her many nightmares, and then must save her small town from the forces of darkness she has set free. For it's first nine-month run, the comic series outsold every other popular title including Spider-Man and Superman; Marvel and DC's respectively best selling comics at the time. Over the years, the series changed publishing houses several times. With the exception of a crossover with another of Queen's popular characters, Darkness, Darkchylde never returned to the top of the comics charts.

Now, after years of debate whether to turn the property into an animated series or big budget, studio film, Randy Queen, now the head of Darkchylde Entertainment, has decided to pursue the live-action route: but on his own terms. The comics author has allied himself with Richard Taylor, and the Academy Award Winning Weta Workshop, to create a small budget Darkchylde film that will both strictly adhere to the source material and please the character's cult following. Here is a message from Queen his fans:

"What we're showcasing..is hard won, self produced, test footage for a proposed 20-25 million budgeted Darkchylde film. We are the underdogs, so it's important to not expect Avatar or Iron Man footage, you know? We're giving a glimpse behind the curtain of a smaller, more intimate horror film we are cultivating, something on the scale of Carrie, but with a more impressive FX resource for Ariel's dreamscapes and the creatures she becomes."

"If I can draw it, we can shoot it, it's just a matter of getting the right people involved. I'm not interested in having someone give me a nickel to go away so they can reverse engineer something that doesn't need it. We've spent 8 years carefully cultivating this film project, and Weta's celebrated craftsmanship ensures a certain artistic integrity as a personal sentiment for horror fans. A lot of love has gone into creating the haunted world of Ariel Chylde. Most interesting is that every time she sheds her skin, a new creature emerges we've never seen before, so audiences never know what to expect. It's a terrific, market proven concept, and as a fright fan, I want to see the new ideas. I want to see fresh characters that could become as vital to this generation as Freddy, Jason and Michael were to mine, and at this budget level, well crafted horror shows terrific return. We've got the script. Darkchylde is ready to fly. We are actively seeking producing partners and independent financing."

Never read this before but it does look pretty cool! The girl is cute. I gotta check this out since it has ties with Darkness, which I read at times.

How come the unpopular titles can get movies and tv series but it takes forever for stuff like Superman, X-men to come out?

Weak sauce.
Hawksblueyes - 8/28/2010, 2:43 PM
I started to post this a while back and wasn't sure about the content warning. I'm glad somebody did, it's pretty damn cool IMO.

MrSuperheromoviefan - 8/28/2010, 3:07 PM
Call me irrelevant because I do not know anything about this comic, but the film seems bad. The graphics are poor and the actress too inexperienced.
josebonifacio - 8/28/2010, 3:09 PM
You had me at it contains nudity.
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 8/28/2010, 3:13 PM

The girl is SMOKIN' HOT! Haven't read the series, but curious now. What exactly is the point of a 'mature audiences' warning when they can't enforce it? That footage is 'R' AT MOST.

this should be interesting.
AngryRob - 8/28/2010, 6:51 PM
Am I the only one who hated the comics from the 90's? It seems like everyone loves Venom, and Doomsday, Fathom, Darkchylde. All the stuff that made me stop reading comics. And everyone hates the Ultimate stuff, which got me to start reading again.

Also, Randy Queen looks like a date rapist
TheQuestion - 8/28/2010, 7:29 PM
Darkchylde? Really? This, along with similarly themed comics from the 90s was just exploitative dreck geared towards horny teenage boys. The stories were forgettable, and so were the characters.

@superheromoviefan...ummmm...it's called "test" footage. It isn't the finished product. And I for one think it looks pretty badass. Definitely going to have to check out the comic!
GirlyGeek - 8/28/2010, 8:35 PM
DarkChylde was so awesome when I was a teen in the 90's!! This looks hot and I really do hope it gets at LEAST an R rating! More boobs and twisted FX!! lol

That clip is for mature audiences only? That's nothing compared to the average teabag comment!
ThunderCougarFalconBird - 8/29/2010, 5:06 AM
Chenqin77 - take your pop shop and pop it up your ass! This is NOT an advertising medium, it is a discussion site for for CBMs! If we wanted to dress like gormless chavs we are more than capable of finding our own shit overpriced branded clothing!
lc - 8/29/2010, 6:53 AM

I've never seen anyone overact breathing.
Magicfingers - 8/30/2010, 12:00 AM
Great clip! I've never read this series before, but I've heard alot about it recently. Maybe I'll give it a shot. If it is as good as Witchblade or Darkness, I think I'll enjoy it.
Plus, that chick is HOT!!! Those eyes of hers are just pulling me in... Can't... break... free...
Must... see...
Shaman - 8/30/2010, 6:59 AM
I fully understand that this was "test" footage but seriously, she could have pulled off a better performance. I can't tell if she's in pain or having an orgasm. The graphics aren't finished so that can be put aside but her vast lack of presence and talent not to mention boobs, is unworthy of any comic book character. Surely there is more than breast size to such a role but when your whole concept is half eye-candy, one box of ritz crackers ain't gonna feed ethiopia.

Thing is, i gotta agree with AngryRob... to an extent. I have a love/hate relationship with the 90ies comics era. That was the era where comic book artists deliberately kicked the writers in the balls. They made all the most popular comics "style over substance". Just like the 60ies' feminists burned their bras, the 90ies' artists burned their brains. As much as i hated that the comics sucked, as an artist myself, it reminded the industry that art was just as important as writing. So from the ashes of that era arose amazing comics to follow.
loganoneil - 8/30/2010, 8:50 AM
AngryRob/Shaman - You've seemed to hit the nail on the head. The 'style-vs-substance' arguement is one of the MAIN reasons why my interest in 90's comics tapered drastically. While the period did sport some of the best artwork seen, a lot of the storylines weren't on-par with the visuals.

I also agree with RacerREX - she looks like Emma Watson's twin, but it appears that she has an acting ability better suited for porn (LMAO!). I predict a Syfy made-for-TV movie or a direct-to-DVD release. There's no WAY this will ever hit the big screen in mass market! She IS fun to look at though, I might buy it if it were in the budget discount bin...
Shaman - 8/30/2010, 9:47 AM
loganoneil- Diddo LOL ;P
oreal - 10/21/2010, 1:06 AM
