most dissapointing CBM ever.
highflyer - 9/3/2013, 1:58 PM
The mandarin twist was bullshit!
LordMushu - 9/3/2013, 1:59 PM
Is funny. Loved the movie though.
highflyer - 9/3/2013, 2:02 PM
I have a feeling that The Avengers franchise is going to end up like a summer camp for superheroes. Every two years, they meet up.
PLUSH - 9/3/2013, 2:03 PM
Funny :P
StatenMan18 - 9/3/2013, 2:07 PM
Yeah it was disappointing, but hopefully the mcu doesn't repeat this recipe.
Jollem - 9/3/2013, 2:15 PM
that was pretty good
3DWitchHunt - 9/3/2013, 2:17 PM
So much cringe in that movie
EdgyOutsider - 9/3/2013, 2:27 PM
I find most of these invalid. Seen the movie a lot and the twist works better each time. The comic book Mandarin would never have worked. Before people say that the ten rings would have worked and the fire breathing was dumb. The fire breathing was to show the potential the human body has with extremis while the ten rings would have looked more cartoony and would have had more backlash than The Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man. Iron Man 3 isn't as disappointing as I remember but it definitely isn't a great start to Phase Two. Just a good start. The movies only real fault is that it has way too much humor, or should I say attempted humor.
DrStampe17 - 9/3/2013, 2:31 PM
Major letdown. I hope Thor 2 isn't a major one, either.
MrReese - 9/3/2013, 2:32 PM
lmao such a crappy movie
Greengo - 9/3/2013, 2:32 PM
Osama Bin Kingsley lol!
DudeGuyMan - 9/3/2013, 2:50 PM
At least something good came out of this strange movie.
Knightrider - 9/3/2013, 2:52 PM
@0mega - You can't include comics, as these movies are made for a general audience to enjoy. Hence why we get Tony's origin in the first movie, otherwise why not start ten years into his career and assume everyone has read the comic.

@Edgy - The issue with the Mandarin was that, while I agree a direct comicbook adaption may not have worked, the Mandarin in the trailer was actually a great update, which they then ruined. As for his 'Power Rings', we're about to have a Marvel Universe with a talking Racoon...are you telling me they couldn't think of a logical way for these rings to exist in the same universe?
marvel72 - 9/3/2013, 3:02 PM
love these honest trailers, good film but it had far too much comedy & the mandarin twist was shit.

can't wait to see honest trailers take on man of steel.
ATrueHero1987 - 9/3/2013, 3:10 PM
I liked the movie & even I agree with some of the points. Some were actually funny too!lol

SN: I was going to buy this today on Xbox Live but it'll take up too much HD space! Damn =/
blvdnoise - 9/3/2013, 3:26 PM
Well damn, it seems even more disappointing after watching this..
WhiteBolt - 9/3/2013, 3:45 PM
I really enjoyed IM3, but this was funny.
superotherside - 9/3/2013, 4:13 PM
Funny stuff. Still a good movie though.
SpiderParker - 9/3/2013, 4:25 PM
@Levi
Aldrich Killian's father is the leader of 10 rings and the real Mandarin. :P
Praetorian - 9/3/2013, 4:36 PM
Dude who the [frick] actually gives a shit about the Mandarin. Its a comic book movie. Grow the [frick] up.
marvel72 - 9/3/2013, 4:47 PM
@ Praetorian

of course people give a shit about the mandarin,he is as important villain to iron man as red skull is to cap or loki to thor.

i don't know if you know that comic books & comic book movies appeal to all ages,so what gives you the right to tell people to grow the f*ck up.
Praetorian - 9/3/2013, 4:52 PM
@Marvel72 Comic book movies appeal to all ages but immaturity does not. It's called creative liscense not a motion comic
ezio619 - 9/3/2013, 5:03 PM
i really like this film, i do think the humor is not needed in the scenes during the final battle and after it and the gary scene could have been cut but thats it.the mandarin.....when i saw the trailers for the movie, i was not really excited for it, i was looking forward to it, but i thought"really another terrorist plot" and plus the mandarin did not look interesting to me, ben kingsley looked awesome as him, but he felt like a generic terrorist with a weird accent to me, and, in terms of character, he was, he kept saying things that were generic" i hate america" stuff, i think ben kingsley portrayed him interestingly but he wasnt an interesting character imo,oh and people who say ben kingsley was wasted, he signed on for it knowing it had a twist and maybe he liked it so...,anyway, i think the twist worked in the context of the film, the themes , the ideas and also tonys journey and it satirized how hollywood builds up these villians, which the were doing in the film and the trailers, building up the image of the mandarin in the eyes of us and the people in the film, and how the media builds up these terrorists and i liked the idea of a terrorist being maufactured by an evil businessman, because before terrorists , who were the stereotypical villians, the evil businessmen. another thing the movie did was make the Mandarin a more personal enemy for Tony then ever before,in that Tony inadvertently creates The Mandarin Out of Killian,Killian was this pure, good minded and hearted guy who wanted to better the world , and because of Tonys Arrogance , his main flaw, becomes his worst enemy.Killian was a good villian imo, i liked we did not get another man in suit fight, he was formidable imo, he destroyed his home, seperated him from his loved ones and was cutting through his armors like nothing, i liked his motivation in that it was not a revenge plot, he wasnt like' i am gonna destroy Stark", he was gonna kill himself but he realized that no one would care if he did, he was complete anonymous and he was gonna exploit his anonymity and through that he would become better and stronger and that became his mantra, sure, he wasnt all that menacing and kinda generic evil businessman, but he wanted to be better and stronger and more powerful then he was before, which is what extremis does and what tony wants to become in the film, he wants to become a better and stronger iron man and through being out of the suit for most of the film realizes he already is as well as the whole"the man makes the suit, not the suit makes man" theme, Killians plan is also genius, he created the mandarin originally to mask his failed extremis experiments going awry, but then he decides to exploit it further, thus becoming corrupted by science figuratively and literally because he has extremis in him and his ambition and ego has made him morally numb while, as another parallel, tony was saved literally and figuratively by his science: his suits and arc reactor in the first film, but anyway ,he decides to have the government target the mandarin, this "Face of evil", while he is scheming to replace the president with the VP who he is gonna plant as a puppet leader so The The VP can then demand the extremis soldiers from killian to look for the mandarin who does not exist and he will supply them and then killian will also be making the decisions that will affect the world, so he will both control the war on terror and the free world, thats GENIUS imo. the parallel between him and tony are there too, Killian works in the shadows and is forced to come into the open while tony who works in the public eye is forced to retreat to the shadows and that killian is tonys dark mirror in that tony would have become more egotistical then he was before and could have become killian so i love those ideas and parallels and killian in my imo is a good villian
Starkasm - 9/3/2013, 5:21 PM
Explain how its a box office hit and miss? It did well both financially and critically.

If you wanna give that title to a cbm this year then it goes to mos. Simply because the raping the critics gave it.

I do agree the humour could've been toned down but I loved the story. Was a very cool take on the character. Was I looking forward to Mandarin? Of course being an IM fan. But I couldn't get my head around how it wouldve been done well. If you dont know what his rings actually do then I suggest you read up. It may change your opinion.
Starkasm - 9/3/2013, 5:24 PM
@ezio

"You start with something pure, something exciting then come the compromises. The mistakes.
ezio619 - 9/3/2013, 5:37 PM
and the whole false faces thing at the end when killians tells them that its time for both of them to stop hiding behind false faces, Killian behind the Faux- Mandarin and Tony behind his suits and thats when he declares his the mandarin in that he is not the mandarin literally but more in the sense that he was behind the actions of the faux-mandarin and tonys house getting destroyed, now iron man 3 is not a perfect film, in fact its my weakest superhero film of the summer but i still really like it, i did leave with questions about extremis and the implications for the future of the iron man franchise but i loved the films ideas , themes etc so much, i didnt really care. now i will address some of the complaints that i hear, people are like "great another evil businessman plot, we had that in the first film", we did ,but thats iron man s thing, he fights dudes in armored suits and dudes in business suits, hell, even the mandarin wears a suit now in the comics and we only think of the mandarin in the robes because of the animated series and the older 80s comics in which it was first introduced, Killians Plan is also very similar to The Mandarins in The Haunted story, which actually made the mandarin cool imo, in which he reinvented himself as a businessman, Killian also shares alot of the characteristics of the modern businessman mandarin, he is egotistical, ruthless and he fights like the mandarin, the only changes i can see are that the rings have been substituted with extremis which is still in sync with the rest of the films in which Favreau wanted the films to be more scientfic and tech based and extremis is birthed out of science and that he is not chinese which again fits with the idea of a white evil businessman controlling the type of threat that has replaced him, the terrorist , they are ideas that i can go indepth with it but i have made this post much longer then i intended but i will end it with, people dont worry, the rest of phase 2 will not be like this because this was Blacks and Pearces idea of what they wanted to do with the film and black said in interviews that he likes the types of movies that subvert your expectations around every corner and thats what the film did for people, it subverted our expectations in that we thought film would be dark but it was not and the mandarin would be this huge thing..no he is not and that got mixed response from people who loved that unpredictability and subversive quality of the film and some that didnt, and not every phase 2 film is gonna be like this, it will have its own vision, its own writers and directors and marvel wants the directors to have their sensibilities in a film because that what makes a director interested and invested in a studio project ,if they will be able to do what they want in the film , have their sensibilities and the thing is not everyones sensibilities are the same, they are very few films people agree on, every person has their own opinion on a film based on their sensibilities and tastes, thats why i am less concerned with cap and thor because marvel will not pull a stunt like this again because they most likely know the mixed response this got and that they knew people would be pissed and while i think not everyone is love those films because people might want different things from them then another people, i think they be less controversial , my concern is with guardians because james gunn sensibilities are definitely not everyones sensibilities, he has this weird and out there tones to his films and they appeal to people with those sensiblities while it definitely doesnt appeal to people who dont have those kinds of sensiblities, so thats why im concerned that guardians might not succeed that well,oh and people stop complaining about this movie being to kiddy or disneyfied, if it was kiddie, people would not be exploding and tony wouldnt call harley a pussy so and the kid was not disneys idea, THEY HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THESE FILMS, THEY JUST GET SOME OF THE DISTRIBUTION MONEY, thats a shane black thing ex, The last action hero remeber?, so stop talking about that,
huexolotl - 9/3/2013, 5:38 PM
This was an awesome movie. Great addition to the MCU.
ezio619 - 9/3/2013, 5:39 PM
starkasm- exactly, i love that line.
Knightrider - 9/3/2013, 5:40 PM
@0Mega I still think you can't include comics to explain what happens pre or post movie, even comics based on the films.

They have to work as a standalone film, as the general audience isn't going to say: I'm going to get the tie-in comic to answer lingering questions.
MrNiklander - 9/3/2013, 5:45 PM
Ah Honest Trailer giving me a 5 minute trailer of why I didn't enjoy IM3 sure it was fun but seriously!?
ezio619 - 9/3/2013, 5:53 PM
and for people that complain pepper should not have killed killian, she was kidnapped by him, tortured with extremis and he called her his trophy, he is as much her enemy as he is Tonys and plus tony kicked more ass then pepper, he took out the guards at the mansion , saved the people in air force one, defeted the crazy extremis lady, defeat the guards with one hand repulsor cannon and boot and technically he does beat killian, pepper just deals the finishing blow.
MrCameron - 9/3/2013, 5:55 PM
Honestly, I don't think people would have bitched so much if Killian was a). Asian and b). a different character entirely.
ezio619 - 9/3/2013, 6:11 PM
Napoleondynamite- i agree, and plus Aldrich Killian was in the extremis storyarc for 2 pages before he killed himself so he had no history in the comics, so they changed his character because he had none, so i dont mind that he is The MCU version of The Mandarin because he is not a fleshed out or established character who has a ton of history in the comics, if they decied to introduce justin hammer in this film and make him the mandarin, then i would be pissed because justin hammer has a long estabilished history in the comics.
3DWitchHunt - 9/3/2013, 7:52 PM
I dont think people would have complained as much if the film was less of a comedy and more of a thriller
ezio619 - 9/3/2013, 8:19 PM
3dwitchhunt- the film was not a comedy, i rewatched that movie and i felt it did not have much comedy as many people think it does, it has good serious moments and a decent length of time between the funny stuff, i think its because the kid stuff and the trevor stuff is too close together so thats why people feel it has too much comedy and i viewed the movie as an action comedy , its basically a shane black film in the vein of lethal weapon, the last boy scout in that its got a white guy and a black guy teaming up together, last action hero because its got a kid in it and kiss kiss bang bang because it subverts your expectations and has a bit of a detective element too it
MrSuperheromoviefan - 9/3/2013, 11:55 PM
This one is 100 percen right. they said it
Luminus - 9/4/2013, 12:23 AM
@ATrueHero1987: That SN is my exact same situation. It's amazing how reality repeats so much. I have to wait until the Standard Definition is released, so it only takes up about 1GB.

The video is 100% correct, though.

"The films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe have received both critical and commercial success, and the franchise as a whole ranks as the third highest-grossing film franchise of all time.

Outside of feature films, the franchise has expanded into comic books, a series of short films called Marvel One-Shots, and the upcoming television series Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

"In 2008 an Iron Man movie adaptation was released (I Am Iron Man) and two comics that further expand the Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk movies (Iron Man: Fast Friends and The Incredible Hulk: The Fury Files). Two years later the comics were expanded even further.

In November 2010, Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada outlined his plan to expand the MCU into comic books. He explained, "[F]or the uninitiated, the MCU [comics] are going to be stories set within movie continuity. [They are] not necessarily direct adaptations of the movies, but maybe something that happened off screen and was mentioned in the movie, and we'll tell that story. ... [T]he folks that are involved in the movies on the West Coast will be involved in these stories. It won't be like one of our comic book writers saw the movie and has an idea for a story. No, these stories are originating at the very top. [Marvel Studios chief] Kevin Feige is involved with these and in some cases maybe the writers of the movies would be involved in ... generating these ideas and then either just giving them to some of our writers or maybe some of these guys writing them themselves."
