Smallville Producers Say "NO!" to Batman & Wonder Woman Appearances

All Best Sellers Stuff
Sadly for any one who had hope that some day Bruce Wayne or Wonder Woman would appear on the show... enough hoping, we got confirmation here that it will never happen on SMALLVILLE.
SMALLVILLE's co-creator Alfred Gough says the writers and producers were refused permission to feature Batman and Wonder Woman in the hit TV series.

The show centres on the early years of Clark Kent, before he donned the Superman costume, with Tom Welling in the lead role.

Gough, who left the series last year, spoke to Smallville magazine about his time on the show and said the key to its success was "the enduring power of Superman."

Asked which characters had been ruled off-limits, Gough said: "Just Batman and Wonder Woman. Those were really it. We used every character from a former Superman series or movie we wanted to."

He told the magazine: "We earned the right to incorporate a lot more of the DC mythology, which really lit a fire under the show. We introduced the future Justice League, Brainiac, Bizarro, the Fortress and Lois Lane. Suddenly we earned the right to use these toys from the DC toy box to great effect."

The show has also featured comicbook characters Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Black Canary, Green Arrow, Cyborg and a junior version of The Flash. Guest appearances were made by actors from former Superman movies and series, including Dean Cain, Marc McLure, Helen Slater, Christopher Reeve, Terence Stamp and Margot Kidder.

The Show Also brought in 3 Legion of Super-Heros, feat. Lightning Lad, Cosmic Boy and Saturn Girl.
Hopefully the show will introduce more Characters from the Legion in the upcoming Season 9, which will air in the fall of 09'.

Well People I guess this is as good as it gets, with these Justice League Characters and Legion Characters. No Bruce Wayne coming into town on business, and no Wonder Woman Saving the day...

Thank God they show would have to be rated R just to show batman with his sex toy and raping woman
Supermike - 3/23/2009, 8:26 AM
supermike i really think its time to seek professional help..seriously! Either that or be sure you ask Santa for a double lobotomy and 10 roles of rubber wallpaper for Christmas this year
RorMachine - 3/23/2009, 8:43 AM
I read this a while ago. Im pretty pissed. I would have loved to see Batman on Smallville. Or maybe some of his villains. Oh well.

Uh... What...?
BmanHall - 3/23/2009, 9:10 AM
Batman on smallville would be cool. I'm waiting for them to bring back Perry White. Might not be a super hero, but it would be another piece to the puzzle. Last time we saw him was in Season 2 or something.
Spilox - 3/23/2009, 9:13 AM
Supermike, like Rorschach said... get help. You are the biggest idiot who obviously doesn't know anything about Batman and you are having some major mommy and daddy issues.

Yeah I also wished they would've had a cameo. They could've mentioned Bruce Wayne coming back from the dead like what happened in the movie. You know? Also in the episode Action from season 7 did anyone realize that the actress had Wonder Woman's logo on all her possessions? I found that funny.
InstigatorGIRL - 3/23/2009, 9:37 AM
OH DAMN, I WANT BATMAN
I mean I dont care about wonder woman but they need Batman on that show.

OriginalPhysco - 3/23/2009, 11:16 AM
Here's my idea:

Bruce Wayne could be a season regular in season 9. He could steal lois from him. Bruce Wayne would steal the Red-Blue-Blur fans. Thats when they start hating eachother. He would also carry kryptonite with him all the time
OriginalPhysco - 3/23/2009, 11:22 AM
Or even as a cameo. He could be meeting with Queen Industries to talk about doing business together.
InstigatorGIRL - 3/23/2009, 12:31 PM
I always thought it would be funny to say Wayne went to that same privet school Olie & Luther went to for a short time, but had a feeling that won't happen. oh yeah, RecoSwaVa, Supes & Batmen never hated each other, they might not aprove of some of the others metheds but they are in fact & always have been the best of friend, next to our boy Olie & Hal Jordan that is of course. atleast as far back I can remember anyway
johan02 - 3/23/2009, 1:20 PM
GREAT! since that show suck big time i think is better they staid away from characters like those until there is a better director and better story
andrew caballero - 3/23/2009, 1:55 PM
Maybe they are afraid Batman will steal Superman's thunder. I would think "Yes" to having him on. It would probably be the most watched episode. Why don't they do a Batman series. Show his life training to be Batman. Not The Graysons.
animeex - 3/23/2009, 2:17 PM
This isnt surprising at all. Why would this stupid ass, teenie bopper show ever do anything cool? Good. Dont make Batman seem super gay, like that fag, Tom Welling. DUMBEST SHOW EVER.
DarkAvengers - 3/23/2009, 2:19 PM
Supermike is a troll. Ignore him.
alten2345 - 3/23/2009, 2:20 PM
OK! I POST THIS EVERY F@#@$ TIME BUT NO ONE LISTENS! I WILL POST IT AGAIN:

For some reason if WB has DC movie or series in production, characters, even minor ones are off limits. That's why when they were doing Justice league Unlimited no Aquaman villains were allowed. And eventually Aquamqan himself, were placed off limits because of the failed Aquaman pilot on WB. The same thing with Batman characters, when the JLU was on so was Teen Titans, and The Batman, so no Titan character/villains, or Batman villains were allowed on JLU. JLU eventually got Speedy for one episode after Titans were off the air.

But the infamous Batembargo PREVENTS any Batman characters from appearing in a NON BATMAN series, movie (may change because of Justice League) etc. That's why no Bats on Smallville and no continuation of the DC Animated Universe. Thats why they are doing non continuity animated movies.

Well I hope that helps, because I have checked many times, and it is all true.

HAWK out
THEHAWK - 3/23/2009, 2:26 PM
Um...WHY NO BATMAN?! They could at least give some kind of reason or rationale as to why there is no batman cameo.
Joker1Zero - 3/23/2009, 2:29 PM
I have thought of that idea, a batman series. The life of Bruce wayne before and while his training. Like they do Smallville, they could have something close to the suit.
OriginalPhysco - 3/23/2009, 2:32 PM
gay y cant dc and warner bros. make an effort to please the fans outside the dark knight which was a great movie oh and to the haters who dont like smallville suck one okay
crazyish - 3/23/2009, 2:47 PM
@Joker1Zero
They did give reason, brcause they are movies being made about Batman. If they stop their reign of Batman movies, we can expect to see Batman in Smallville. But we will never because their stoping at season 9 and the next batman coming out in 2011
OriginalPhysco - 3/23/2009, 3:36 PM
HEY NEW SEASON, FORGET THE OLD RULE, YOU WANT RATINGS? GIVE FANS AND PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANNA SEE..GIVE THEM BATMAN, GIVE THEM WONDERWOMAN.HERES AN IDEA FOR BATMAN-YOUNG BRUCE WAYNE,DRIVEN AND ANGRY,TRAINING WITH ONE OF THE MANY MASTERS OF THE VAST SKILLS HE AQUIRES, AND ONE HAPPENS TO BE IN SMALLVILLE,ID LIKE TO SEE BRUCE WAYNE ALWAYS DOING JUST ALLITLE BIT BETTER THAN LUTHOR, EVEN IN BUISNESS LIKE A RIVAL THAT YOU NEVER CAN BEAT EVERYONE LIKES TO SEE THE BAD GUY LOOK STUPID-WONDERWOMAN-HAVE HER VISIT BUT THEN LATER HAVE SOME SORCERESS WIPE EVERYONES MEMORY-THIS IS THE GIRL SUPES ENDS UP WITH A KID WITH,CMON, HOT AMAZON GIRL,IF THAT DOESNT BRING IN RATINGS I DONT KNOW WHAT WILL.HONESTLY, BRINGING IN BATS AND WONDERWOMAN WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA,BESIDES, TV AND CINEMA ARE 2 SEPERATE THINGS,TO KEEP THESE CHARACTERS AWAY FROM SUPERMAN LORE IS RETARDED.
GUNSMITH - 3/23/2009, 3:46 PM
why not? the show cannot get any worse now can it?
grif - 3/23/2009, 3:54 PM
Those would have been cool chara, but why not have them as a season finale or something.

As far as SuperMike is concern, not that I dislike this person. But why post if your just going to be negative all the time. Fine something else to do.
Spock - 3/23/2009, 3:58 PM
@GUNSMITH, THEY ARE AFRAID PEOPLE WOULD GET THE CONTINUITIES CONFUSED! THE SAD THUNG IS I KNOW PEOPLE THAT STUPID. THATS WHY THEY ARE MAKING THIS CRAPPY batman:brave and the bold, THIS WAY THE PRODUCERS CAN GET AWAY WITH GUEST STARS BECAUSE IT IS A BATMAN SHOW.

!_!
THEHAWK - 3/23/2009, 3:59 PM
I'm actually kinda GLAD they aren't having Wonder Woman because the biggest thing pissing me off about Smallville (besides his failure to fly) is the back and fourth bull$hit with Lois. I mean, we finally get to see Lana scram and now they're gonna pull the SAME crap with a character who isn't annoying as $hit?! I wanna see her and Clark get together, they've more or less tossed continuity into the wind, and I kinda like the idea of a Lois Lane that isn't a complete bitch and who actually like boyscout super-goober Clark. I know having WW on the show would require some kinda diversion from Lois and I'm getting tired of them already!
TheDurkinKnight - 3/23/2009, 4:03 PM
I gave up wanting to see BATS a long time ago! I thought thats why we got GREEN ARROW anyway? An never ever heard WONDER WOMAN mentioned in smallville? Though, i ain't to cut up. im loving all the dc characters we've never seen before on film!!!! WARNERS should do a massive amout of spin off tv movies! Like sci-fi an have LOSH, GREEN ARROW or JUSTICE or both! ZATTANNA, MARTIAN MANHUNTER and SUPER GIRL!!! An see what one's FLY!!! Heh, oh yeah, Supermike@ go and buy that blow up Wolverine toy fella lol!! ; )
LEEE777 - 3/23/2009, 4:12 PM
yeah, dont tarnish the greats. Except superman that is, and everything under him.

and anything -Lad is just lame, lame. Lame
Betty - 3/23/2009, 4:20 PM
Oh yeah, WARNER BROTHERS!!! If you want to get your lesser known characters known, do a OUTER LIMITS type show!!! Different character every week!!! ; ) Theres a unlimited supply of characters in the Dc Universe!!! RAGMAN anyone??? ; ) I thought years ago WARNERS should've done this! How cool would it be! Oh MARVEL too! : )
LEEE777 - 3/23/2009, 4:24 PM
i would truly love to see them do some primitive form of the GREEN LANTERN, like the Lantern Ring being in the early stages of production, and having JOHN STEWART BE THE MAN TO BE THE PROTOTYPE.(never liked hal jordan)
Requiem Angel - 3/23/2009, 4:58 PM

Thanks Reco... I thought it was a good idea. You can do alot and introduce characters the same way as Smallville.
animeex - 3/23/2009, 6:01 PM
Id just like more acknowledgement and references to Gotham in smallville, the odd reference or easter egg now and again goes along way - personally I don't particularly need a Wayne Enterprises limo or amazon cameos.
Scottymagic - 3/23/2009, 6:15 PM
i had thought bruce wayne was on smallville. back when they had the episode when they showed Olie & Luther at the rich privite school. a black haired guy said he need to get back to gotham.
silentmaster - 3/23/2009, 6:23 PM
if you look at this link http://www.tv.com/smallville/reunion/episode/864006/summary.html?tag=ep_guide;ep_title;4 look at the notes section
silentmaster - 3/23/2009, 6:25 PM
i was wondering when someone was gonna say the show sucks. looks like it took all the way to the middle of the thread. every time. if you don't like smallville and think it sucks, why waste your time reading articles and commenting about it. Go Away. i'm sure there is a great article about Fantastic Four that might keep your attention.
valeriesghost - 3/23/2009, 6:31 PM
@ Silent master, no that wasn't him, I know who you are talking about. He was one of Ollie's old cronies. And it would suck if he was Bruce because that guy died.
THEHAWK - 3/23/2009, 7:04 PM
i havent seen the episode since it aired but i swear that the guy left before anybody.
silentmaster - 3/23/2009, 7:10 PM
Nope he died. Killed him.
THEHAWK - 3/23/2009, 7:11 PM
If I recall correctly ..."and I usually do, " the highest ratings Smallville ever had was when Christopher Reeve showed up on the show the first time (either that or Justice, when they had all the DC heroes that already appeared on the series show up).

If it's ratings they are after then that is what they need to do. Have Bruce and Diana show up in Season 9 and have Clark fly by that point. Even people who don't watch Smallville or don't like Superman will watch Batman and Wonder Woman on TV.

But kindly note that Gough is no longer the producer and the show's gotten better ever since he left, maybe the CW will see things our way. I remain an optimist

But that probably won't happen because...

I really think that the CW's CEO, Dawn Ostrander or whatever her name is, is an idiot for overlooking things like this. Blowing off the Mercy Reef/Aquaman Pilot was stupid, I mean once Smallville had run the race and had to go away they need something to keep that Top 10 ratings audience. If the superhero appeal didn't work to bring it fans than the beach sexiness of it would. (Come on you tell me that skinny dipping scene with the blonde chick wasn't sexy...or any of those other actresses ;) )

If the iTunes downloads isn't an indicator of what could have happened, then l have no trust with the CW beyond Smallville. If they didn't have Smallville and Supernatural they would just have soap opera shit like Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill and shitty sitcoms.
Metron - 3/23/2009, 8:11 PM
The Batman and Wonderwoman bans are most likely concrete as they are from the top of WB, but Gough isn't a producer any more, so all the rules that were placed on him may not be binding anymore, he's old news. The show has matured greatly this season and I think that some of the lesser restrictions on the show will be laxed to some degree.
HarrisonBergeron - 3/23/2009, 8:29 PM
supermike
that could have been a funny comment and yet you even suck at that
how sad

all i can to this article is GOOD
batman and wonder women do not 'guest star'
they are the stars
and who the hell do you cast in these roles without huge ramifications in the rest of the movie world
Smallville can survive without these two characters
and they should not be brought into this drama filled world of 'do i love louis or do i secretly want to have jimmy's babies'

also, Chloe has always been the sexiest girl on that dam show and i wanted to smack welling everytime i used to watch it. i hear this last season was good and may get me to start rewatching. but dam chloe, you can be my louis lane any day
realfirstavenger - 3/23/2009, 8:37 PM
Even if they can't use Batman and Wonder Woman, doesn't that mean they can't still have Green Lantern (play him as an antagonist! Would love to see Superman vs. Green Lantern) or Blue Beetle or Hawkgirl or Plastic Man or The Question.

Might be interesting to see how some of those would be done for television.
Hobgoblyn - 3/23/2009, 10:51 PM
WB initially said he can't fly as long as a Superman movie is planned and as for Bat's HE IS NOT ALLOWED ON THE SHOW!

For some reason if WB has DC movie or series in production, characters, even minor ones are off limits. That's why when they were doing Justice league Unlimited no Aquaman villains were allowed. And eventually Aquamqan himself, were placed off limits because of the failed Aquaman pilot on WB. Hey CBM, Think its time to perma ban Supermike?

I think they are fine with out the big 3 hanging out. We just wanna see him fly.
Smolo - 3/24/2009, 5:19 AM
True true. I don't need to see Bruce or Diana on the show to be happy. I means it's called Smallville not Gotham or Themyscara. I just want to see Clark start flying instead of running.

LastSon1027 - 3/24/2009, 5:52 AM
Yeah but now thy are talking about the watchtower and stuff, Bats, WW and Supes were founding members of the JL..i guess thats another piece of comic continuity gone out the window! Now the League will be founded by Supes, Green Arrow, Aquaman and...eh...Cyborg! Bullshit. They should bring in the big 3 for even just the last 3 ever episodes or something.
RorMachine - 3/24/2009, 6:00 AM
Oh yeah I also agree with your first statement smolo supermike is a damn moron and should be banned forever

LastSon1027 - 3/24/2009, 6:11 AM
What a load of crap. First they tease about Wonder Woman (I think it was in the third season) and now a big fat NO. They could have triangle story with Lois - Clark - Diana. Pity.
So they will probably continue to introduce 2nd string heroes like Green Arrow, Zatanna and Aquaman.
I think it was obvious that there would be no batman in Smallville.
frank666 - 3/24/2009, 8:09 AM
Boo...
Jetsaholic - 3/24/2009, 8:52 AM
Sirjedi @ cool i gotta check that out, coz i don't remember it, cheers!!! An by the way people, its better if ol' Clark don't meet all his superhero mates before donning the cape lol! Hell, how small is the Dc Universe!!!! : )
LEEE777 - 3/24/2009, 10:27 AM
WB won't allow the costume or flying as long as a Supes film is scheduled. That, unlike the Bat embargo, is subject to change. We may get to see some flying, but definately no costume, at least not in the traditional form.
THEHAWK - 3/24/2009, 1:57 PM
I always thought that Detective Gordon would be a good cameo for SV should they manage to get some leeway regarding the bat embargo. Gordon and a Gotham name drop would make for pleasurable nerdgasm.

When did SV ever tease at having Wonder Woman? They had Linda Carter, but, to my knowledge, they never referenced WW at all.
HarrisonBergeron - 3/24/2009, 2:30 PM
A single Bruce Wayne episode of Smallville would be cool. Especially if they want ratings. But yeah, it would be best if they didn't bring him in.

Wonder Woman! I love her to Death, but Smallville is no place for her.

I think Bridget Reagen from the T.V. show "Legend of the Seeker" would play a cool Wonder Woman for the film.
SpiderBat209 - 3/24/2009, 2:47 PM

I do wish the person who posted this article had credited the original source for most of it, which is my blog The Geek Files.

http://blogs.coventrytelegraph.net/thegeekfiles/2008/10/smallville-producers-blocked-f.html

It's discourteous - not to mention friggin annoying - when people take work without crediting the originator. Consider me seriously pissed off.
TheGeekFiles - 3/25/2009, 10:12 AM
Honestly, Supermike's comment at the top of the page just wiered the hell out of me. Really, dude, you seriously might want to talk someone. And that's me being totally serious, not even joking.

joNathanPetrelli - 4/3/2009, 9:32 AM
does anyone read comics anymore Bat Superman and wonderwoman did not from the JLA they became member later on the first JLA were green arrow Aquman and Jonn Jonn and Flash

Also superman didn't start flying till the 50s so to say he always fly is a lie
Supermike - 4/4/2009, 3:21 PM
Its too bad that this silly stipulation exists because if there were a smallville episode with a young Bruce Wayne I can guarantee that it would be the most anticipated episode ever, in fact it may even attract people who dont even like the show, they would at least be curious enough to see how it would unfold.
jimdrums - 5/4/2009, 6:04 AM
Awww man!, for years i've been hoping to see a young Bruce Wayne show up in Smallville, angry as hell because of the death of his parents, misguided and vengeful. Trying to keep in tact his fortune at Wayne Enterprises coming to the Daily Planet for public relation stuff and meeting Clark etc.... that would have been great for TV, that's unfortunate they won't let the producers bring in Wayne...it's not like they are bringing in the Batman character itself just the alter ego... what's wrong with that??? Well hopefully they will finally have Clark flying and he put's on the costume... HOPEFULLY
kdemond - 10/8/2009, 2:18 PM
Technically Batman is already on the show..but in the body of Green Arrow. The way the character(green arrow) is portrayed almost mirrors Batman. The two characters share almost the same past, and kinda act the same. It is like the writers of Smallville had originally written the new character to be batman but they couldn't get the rights so they just changed the name Bruce Wayne to Oliver Queen.
If Batman is to be on the show then it would just be like having an identical twin to Green Arrow seeing that there are very few differences between the two.
