In an excerpt of the interview -- which was done to promote Allison's Broadway appearance in Love, Loss and What I Wore -- she discusses Smallville.

PW: Does preparing to play her for the final time feel different?

Allison: Yea. I think that I have a much deeper appreciation for what I have with that character and that show. Just the privilege it’s been to play her. It’s like the Joni Mitchell song, “you don’t know what you have till it’s gone.” Because ["Smallville' is] winding down, I’m able to really evaluate the life she has led, which has been a real honor.

PW: What's important to you in the way Chloe's story is wrapped up?

Allison: Just that she maintains her integrity. That she really upholds what is important to her and doesn’t sacrifice anyone. I spent a lot of time playing a character who gives up a lot of the things that are most important to her, for the sake of other people. I think she’s finally reached a point in her own maturation process where she doesn’t do that anymore. I hope the writers maintain that standard as we end her run.

PW: Do you know how many episodes you'll be back for?

Allison: I’ll be back for five total episodes.

PW: I heard that the incredibly loyal fans were one of the reasons you decided to return. True?

Allison: Definitely. They were the reason I decided to come back. I was very much ready to move on, and not because I was unhappy with the show or that anything bad happened, I was just very much ready to enter a new phase of my life. But I realized as we came towards the end of the season that my character wasn’t getting a completion. I didn’t feel comfortable walking away from the show, and my character, without a completion. So I committed to doing five episodes to giving her the ending I think she deserves. I do think there’s a relationship between my character and the people who’ve watched the show for so many years. I want to honor them, her and myself.

PW: So it would be safe to say that once "Smallville" ends we'll be seeing a lot more of you on the stage?

Allison: Yes, [doing theater is] fantastic, are you kidding me? I’m used to 16 hour days – this is an hour and a half day! Even though you’re doing eight shows a week, which can be quite taxing, there’s no comparison. Imagine the endurance you have to have in film/TV versus theater. It’s like a sprinter versus a marathon runner. So yes, more theater for sure -- spread the word so people hire me [laughs].

Allison Mack will be in the NYC production of Love, Loss & What I Wore through August 29, buy your tickets here.

antz1104 - 8/24/2010, 7:40 AM
I loved Chloe at the beginning. At the end...not so much, wasn't the same person.
I - 8/24/2010, 7:43 AM
@Superdog I saw "the clip" you spoke of and you can't really be sure of your theory from that.
superdog - 8/24/2010, 8:34 AM
its not from the clip. michael aussiello at EW did a spoiler scoop a few weeks back where he confirmed she would be putting on the helmet.
PRMR77 - 8/24/2010, 8:36 AM
AHH CRAP !! She wasn't the best thing in the show and yet not the worst. However as this is as we all know the last season you would have thought she would have made more of an effort seeing as she is the only other cast member that's been there since day one. Well she will be missed but with all the other guest star they seemed to have lined up I'm guessing not that much. The chances are (I hope) the money they wouldn't give to her they are saving for Michael Rosenbaum !!!!!

Five episodes? That's five too many!

superdog@ First off, just because she may put on the helmet once it doesn't mean she ends up being Dr. Fate. Secondly, as far as Ausiello being a reliable source, I would take that with a grain of salt.

I don't get all the hatred for Chloe, but to each their own. Chloe pretty much is Watchtower and who is going to run Watchtower when she is not in the show? I guess that will end up being Oliver, but still...I think she plays out her role very well.
SHAZAM171 - 8/24/2010, 10:04 AM
5 out of 22 episodes.... I'm OK with that. Better than a whole season. LOL
superdog - 8/24/2010, 10:10 AM
ranger@ to your first point i would agree that just cause she puts it on doesnt mean she will permanently be dr. fate. as to your second point, ausiello has about a 99% success rate with his spoilers. so i have no doubt she will put it on. whether she continues to wear it we will have to wait and see.

I knew she wasnt going to be on the show much this season but only 5 eps? odd. Well, what the means to the show is, what will become of the Watchtower? Does Martian Manhunter run the show from there? Does Tess? Do they shut it down?(doubt it)

OR

Should they do what I think they should do is...drum roll please. Bring in ORACLE from the Birds of Prety.

Lets face facts. They already have the Black Canary on the show, plus in the comic book mythology she has already worked with Martian Manhunter in the Infinite Crisis (2005) storyline, which, oh by the way was written by Geoff Johns.

In the story Oracle teams up with the Martian Manhunter in Metropolis to coordinate a counterstrike to the Secret Society's global jailbreak.

The other reason id like to see this happen is that, well lets face it, if I had a choice between seeing Dina Meyer again or seeing Allison Mack lets face facts as cute as Mack is shes not as hot as Meyer is.

Anyway, let me know what you think of the idea.

aw but LEEE, shes hot!

Here's MY take:

Allison Mack is beautiful. I'd leave my gf and marry her if she asked ;)

Chloe Sullivan was cool, right until season 8. I think by season 7, Mack was growing tired of playing her and was not putting the effort in. Season 9 showed me how little she wants to put any acting talent she may have into that character, anymore.

With only 5 episodes this season, she better take advantage of this. I want to see an Emmy nominating performance from her!
gandalf550 - 8/24/2010, 12:31 PM
She's been an interesting character on the show. As long as they stay true to what they've been preaching on the show (i.e. she dies and clark FINALLY flies), that's all I care about.
skullboy - 8/24/2010, 1:52 PM
PLEASE KILL HER ALREADY!!!
skullboy - 8/24/2010, 1:53 PM
Since the directors and producers keep seeing her as their meal ticket, she better hope most of mainstream Hollywood will come knocking on her door once the series end. Lots of luck to ya.
Suzanne - 8/24/2010, 2:39 PM
Why do you people hate her so much?
satanors - 8/24/2010, 5:00 PM
Guys guys...this is the final season. can we all just get along and stop cribbing?
and oh...smallville rocks....up yours haters....:)
Pooh - 8/24/2010, 6:32 PM
Before last season I thought Chloe still had some potential. But now that I know the spoilers about her future I'm loathing instead of wanting to watch her. I hate the idea of Chloe becoming Dr. Fate, and I hate the idea of them turning her relationship with Oliver into anything more than a fling. I basically hate everything that's coming. I really enjoyed last season's episode 'Persuasion' though.
nickh0801 - 8/26/2010, 6:23 AM
TESS will take over Watchtower......
TheSisko - 8/27/2010, 7:40 AM
Great! When Chloe leaves I will not feel obligated to watch this trash show anymore. Chloe was the last thing that tied this show to the good show it used to be. Now season 10 of Smallville will star...

Tom Welling as Clark 'it is all my fault' Kent
Erica Durance as Lois 'Super-fake' Lane
Cassidy Freedmen as Tess 'I use to be a badass' Mercer
and Justin Hartley as Oliver 'time for my yearly cycle of depression' Queen

of well at least we will have episodes of Allson Mack before this show turns to crap.
jinx99 - 9/1/2010, 3:20 PM
@ TheSisko. If you subscribe to the laughable 'Chlois' theory, then I must counter by saying that it's Chloe Sullivan that is the second-rate faux Lois Lane. As Geoff Johns said at the San Diego Comic Con, Erica Durance is the best Lois Lane ever. But I do agree about Tom Welling's Clark Kent continually saying 'it's all my fault' being highly irritating, especially when he's always made to apologize to Allison Mack's Chloe - even when the fault lies with Chloe's action in the first place.

In my opinion Chloe Sullivan is one of the most overrated and odious characters on TV. I reckon only Allison Mack's hardcore really enjoy watching the two-faced, morally bankrupt Chloe strut around. Chloe fans even manage to find justification for her (1) killing the bedridden Sebastian, (2) cheating on her husband Jimmy with the serial killer Davis 'Doomsday' Bloom, (3) getting rid of the body parts of Doomsday's victims, (4) embezzling millions from Oliver Queen - to name but a few Chloe 'highlights'.

I guess the showrunners and writers must be considered hardcore fans too, since they believe her to be 'hero', like Clark Kent. I really really have to question their moral compass when they write her continually doing terrible things, all under the auspices of 'helping Clark Kent', so it's deemed A OK. It seems that the showrunners love morally ambiguity.

Recently the showrunner Kelly Souders commented that Clark is not an 'inspirational' or 'totally pure-hearted' hero yet. WTF?! Seriously? How much more of a doormat are they planning to make him? But I suppose that with friends like Chloe, the equally duplicitous Lana Lang, and evil Lex Luthor, it's a wonder that Clark Kent hasn't become a homocidal maniac, like Doomsday.

And as someone said on this site already, Chloe in 5 episodes is 5 too many!

End of rant.
