Offers the site, "Ahmed Helmy, age 16, a student at Waubonsie Valley High School working at the local iHop, signed as an extra and filmed his scene yesterday. Helmy mentions how he became super enough to land the part. 'Most of my friends knew about the movie already and some even tried out. I was at work when they came in and just asked me if I’d play myself as a waiter,' Ahmed said.

The newbie thespian admitted that it was somewhat tiring to wait around while the scene was set to perfection, but found moviemaking to be "cool" once things truly got started. Among the "things" was the opportunity for Helmy to walk by Amy Adams' table a couple of times, indicating that he will make it into the film.

As to Zack Snyder, he observed, “He’s a really cool and funny guy. He knows how to get the shot just perfect. I could tell because he would shout cut only after a few minutes."

is Aurora, IL a big city or small town?
Greedo - 7/30/2011, 6:26 AM
I grew up in Aurora it's roughly 50 miles west of Chicago and has about a 100,000 people living there. The downtown area has a lot of old buildings, the fox river runs through the middle of downtown.

For the most part its a pit due to the gangs and scumbags that live there.

“He knows how to get the shot just perfect. I could tell because he would shout cut only after a few minutes."

Ummm...definitely a newbie actor. Doing a cut after a few minutes means nothing. Sounds like he is trying to over-analyze things a bit much. Just because he walks by Adam's table a few times indicates nothing about whether he will be in the film or not. Does he know how much footage of the main stars gets cut in the process of editing a film? They could end up cutting the whole restaurant scene for all that is known right now. Good for him and I understand his enthusiasm for getting an extra role, but he is a bit green and ill-informed as to how the process works.

Lois Lane eating at IHop . . .

Never thought she would eat there. I see her more as a restaurant or old-fashioned diner kinda girl.

Talk about advertising. This scene won't get cut out. IHop is paying them to promote the restaurant.

This film will definitely work!

^^^Maybe...maybe not. How many times do you see chain restaurants shown in movies? Most of the time they will shoot a scene at a restaurant location, but they won't disclose what restaurant it is. If they do show the scene, odds are there won't be any reference to iHop in the scene. It will just look like a breakfast joint or restaurant. Filmmakers are generally very cautious about promoting name brands or businesses within a film. Yes, it will happen, but it is the exception the rule. ;-)

@Ranger14: There was a lot of emphasis a few weeks ago about an IHop sign with a big hole in it that looked like someone or something flew right through it. So it seems like the sign will definitely be part of the film. They wouldn't waste that much money constructing that sign and putting it up if they weren't gonna use it.

The actual scene in the restaurant though, that's a toss up. But the sign looks like a definite yes. Companies pay film industries lots of money all the time for promotion.

For example: I remember in Captain America it was a worms eye view of Evans, I believe it was after he was running in modern-day Manhattan. Well anyway, if you look to the left there was a Bank of America & the logo that took up half the entire frame. They obviously payed Disney to get that scene in there which is most likely what IHop is doing here.

Aurora is pretty big and now, it's not a "pit"...Everyone sees what they want though, I guess.

Bring us the suit, Snyder!
