Kevin Feige had a quick interview with the guys over at ScreenCrush and he took the time to share that Nova was actually apart of the early process of the film but, "there was a fork in the road that we came to at one point in the development process where we decided to eliminate Nova and go full-on with Peter Quill’s story."

For those of you who are not familar with Nova he is (as Marvel.com describes him):

Randomly chosen to become a member of the Nova Corps until the Annihilation Wave destroyed them all, leaving him imbued with their combined power and guided by the super-intelligent Worldmind computer, Richard Rider wages a one-man battle for justice as Nova.

Why are people so obsessed with Nova? Who is he?lol People keep asking me if Nova is in the film and what not. Dunno what makes him so special. Can anyone explain?
TonyChu - 7/21/2014, 1:33 PM
@McNyagano Nova is basically the Hal Jordan of the Marvel Universe.
NovaCorpsFan - 7/21/2014, 1:33 PM
Nova killed Annihilus once. Helped send Thanos to the Cancerverse. Restored order to the entire galaxy after the Annihilation Wave. Only character in the history of Marvel to be turned into children's building blocks.
Starfox - 7/21/2014, 1:33 PM
@TonyChu

Exactly. ;)
ekrolo2 - 7/21/2014, 1:34 PM
@McNyagano

He had a pretty good comic series from 2006-2011 by Abnett & Lanning and everyone loved the shit out of it so they want him in live action.
TonyChu - 7/21/2014, 1:36 PM
Read Marvel Annihilation for a good Nova or cosmic story in general.
McNyagano - 7/21/2014, 1:37 PM

So he has super powers then? What powersw does he have? Cause none of the Nova corps in GOTG were doing anything superhuman. I did see one who had a different armour than everyone else though.
Bekss - 7/21/2014, 1:37 PM
But Elmayimbe said he was in the movie.
I don't know who to believe
Starkasm - 7/21/2014, 1:38 PM
@mcnyagano

He's just a real fun heavy hitter.
Around the time of the annihilation wave, which was the time this roster of the Guardians formed, he played a big part. I'd love to see him in this flick. I bet he's in a post credits scene.
WorstUserNameEver - 7/21/2014, 1:38 PM
If done right, MCU Nova could be HUGE!

There's different levels of Nova corps: corpsman, millenian, centurion, prime, etc. Richard Rider was the Nova Prime (the leader).

They're just fans of Ultimate Spider-man...other than that....who knows......lol. ;)
Bekss - 7/21/2014, 1:44 PM
Each one is stronger and have better powers
McNyagano - 7/21/2014, 1:45 PM
@Starfox

@Bekss

So what's the difference between all them if you don't mind explaining?
charlie2094 - 7/21/2014, 1:46 PM
Probably for the best, don't want to try and do too much. Wouldn't be surprised if there is some kind of reference or nod towards the character in the film, given that the Nova Corps has a presence...

Be cool to see him in a sequel! Not my favorite character, but be a great addition, think there could be a lot of potential for him on screen.
marvel72 - 7/21/2014, 1:46 PM
on the guardians of the galaxy soundtrack there is a track on the playlist its titled "nova update",maybe the after the credits scene.
KingOnslaught - 7/21/2014, 1:48 PM
Nova is [frick]ing awesome!!!!!

RamonSuarez - 7/21/2014, 1:49 PM
People want Nova so they can finally see a cosmic CBM superhero done right for once after the FF and Green Lantern debacles.

I'm a little busy right now so I'll let Wikipedia do it for me ;) (I haven't read it so I don't know if is completely right)

Nova Prime – The Nova Centurion designated as 'Prime' is the highest-ranking member of the Nova Corps. The Nova Prime is endowed with a vast portion of the Nova-Force, and capable of great feats of energy manipulation and projection.[10]
Centurion – The Centurions are the top tier of the Nova Corps. It is from the Centurions that the Centurion Nova Prime is selected. The Centurions can lift approximately 20 tons.[citation needed]
Denarians – The Denarians are the middle tier of the Nova Corps. They have access to 75% of the Nova Force compared to the Centurions. The Denarians can lift approximately 15 tons.[citation needed]
Millennians – The Millennians have 50% of the Nova Force compared to the Centurians. They cannot fly, but they can pilot one-man sky flyers. Millennians can lift approximately 10 tons, have limited invulnerability, and have small photon blasters in the armbands of their uniform.[citation needed]
Corpsman – The Corpsman are the entry level of the Nova Corps. Any graduates from the Space Academy must apply to the Nova Corps upon graduation. They have access to 25% of the Nova Force compared to the Centurions. They can lift approximately 5 tons with limited invulnerability. Like the Millennians, the Corpsman have small photon blasters in the armbands of the their uniform.[citation needed]

"For those of you who are not familiar with Nova he is a basically like the Green Lantern of Marvel"

The only similarity is that the Green Lantern Corps and the Nova Corps are intergalactic police forces, beyond that, Green Lantern and Nova are nothing alike.
Brainiac13 - 7/21/2014, 1:52 PM
Nova(Richard Rider) is nothing like Hal Jordan......other than being in a Corp.

McNyagano - 7/21/2014, 1:52 PM
@Bekks

Alright thanks. Interesting how the Nova Corpsman in GOTG didn't really do anything superhuman.
Starfox - 7/21/2014, 1:53 PM
@McNyagano

LOL!
Brainiac13 - 7/21/2014, 1:53 PM
@ALmazing

I see you get it......people just need to read more comics.
Bekss - 7/21/2014, 1:55 PM
McNyagano

Maybe it was too much to put in the movie and in future sequels (Spoilers-now that the Guardians are part of the Nova) they will introduce all those things
DeusExSponge - 7/21/2014, 1:59 PM
Noooooooo!!!!! Oh well, but when they do include Nova it better be Richard Rider not Sam Alexander or whatchamacallit!
ALmazing - 7/21/2014, 2:02 PM
@Brainiac13

Starfox - 7/21/2014, 2:03 PM
C'mon you guys really can't see the GL similarites though??
TChalla - 7/21/2014, 2:03 PM
LOL!!!

I UPDATED IT!!!!

XD
TonyChu - 7/21/2014, 2:06 PM
They are comparing Green Lantern and Nova Corps as being both intergalactic corporations that enlist different races to protect the universe. Yes they are different in many ways but at the same time hold the same purpose.
McNyagano - 7/21/2014, 2:09 PM
@StarFox

Is that a [frick]ing dragon in the background of the Nova Corps?lol
SniktBub - 7/21/2014, 2:11 PM
Nova is in the top 10 Marvel characters of all time. Annihilation was epic. It centered around Nova, which made me really look into his character
TonyChu - 7/21/2014, 2:13 PM
It would be interesting to see Nova and Gamora possibly form a relationship in a possible sequel.
Maven - 7/21/2014, 2:25 PM
Nah bring on Warlock.
TheDudeRusty - 7/21/2014, 2:26 PM
The Nova Corps should have a solo film though I would rather see a decent GL film.
SageMode - 7/21/2014, 2:39 PM
@McNyagano

Because the Nova Corpsmen are the lowest ranking members
