In a recent interview with Newsarama, Captain America: The Winter Soldier star Sebastian Stan talks about his role as Bucky/Winter Soldier and his Marvel contract. When asked if his Marvel deal, which he considers great job security, will allow him to appear in more films, he responded, "Yes[...] I think I actually have nine." Newsarama then asked Stan if he knew he was going to be The Winter Soldier when he played Bucky in The First Avenger. Here is an excerpt from the interview:

I did, and I didn’t. It was a “maybe.” It led me to prepare myself for this just in case, but I’m not the guy who gets to shoot the movies. When we wrapped, I had no idea if we’d be back. A lot of that has to do with fan response, the public response. But I did really hope that I’d be back to play this character again.

Newsarama went on to ask Sebastian Stan if he had read past comics in preparation for his role and how "Marvel has been on a hot streak." To read the full interview, head over to Newsarama to check out more!

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy — the Winter Soldier. Starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp and Maximiliano Hernández with Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Redford, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is directed by the team of Anthony & Joe Russo from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch, production designer Peter Wenham, editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set for release on April 4, 2014.

TheAbaryMan369 - 3/13/2014, 11:18 AM
Nine? Either Bucky is the new Cap or this guy will be popping up in practically every movie.
JoJo1982 - 3/13/2014, 11:19 AM

Yup Cap getting killed off in Cap 3.
ndwwrestler2 - 3/13/2014, 11:25 AM
... 9 Movies? That's more than Cap and Iron Man!

Could we be getting either Bucky as Cap...or a Winter Soldier movie?
BANEofExistence - 3/13/2014, 11:26 AM
Marvel is going to milk what villains they can... between Loki, Winter Soldier, Ultron, Thanos and possibly Red Skull (Considering his face is CGI) and HOPEFULLY a new, real Mandarin. Most of Marvels big bads are with Fox or Sony (Galactus, Dr.Doom, Magneto, Apocalypse, Green Goblin, Venom etc...)
ProfessorX - 3/13/2014, 11:27 AM
For sure Bucky will become Captain America. Chris Evans' contract ends after Avengers 3, whereas Stan will still have 5-6 left after that.

Hopefully Cap (Evans) dies a heroic death in the fight against Thanos:

Dinotron - 3/13/2014, 11:27 AM
Evans is already signed for Avengers 3 so no Cap 3 isnt his last
DaVinci31 - 3/13/2014, 11:28 AM
4-5 would be expected. But 9?
tvor03 - 3/13/2014, 11:29 AM
Folks, a nine picture deal doesn't mean he's guaranteed to be in nine movies.
cipher - 3/13/2014, 11:29 AM
yoss- I've got a deal with "Drop The Balls: A True Story Of Deception And Castration" Studios. I owe it to my ex.

Love you too, babe. Hope you choke on 'em.
BANEofExistence - 3/13/2014, 11:29 AM
And seeing as Evans has a 6 picture deal (Not 9 like originally planned)

That's

1- Captain America: The First Avenger

2- Marvel's The Avengers

3- Captain America: The Winter Soldier

4- The Avengers: Age of Ultron

5- Cap 3 (2016 or 17)

6- Avengers 3

So unless Evans signs up for a new extended contract, Cap Rogers will most likely be killed off in Avengers 3 :'( Leaving Bucky to fill the role of Cap
Dinotron - 3/13/2014, 11:29 AM
We will be seeing ALOT of Winter soldier in Marvel movies. I wonder will he show up in AoU. For sure Cap 3 and maybe Avengers 3.
KeefNCookies - 3/13/2014, 11:32 AM
Dinotron - 3/13/2014, 11:32 AM
Im used to Evans being Cap tho :'( dont kill him off
TheAbaryMan369 - 3/13/2014, 11:33 AM
They're probably just making up the contracts with more movies than planned so that they can still keep the actors for as long as needed.
kevberg - 3/13/2014, 11:37 AM

Holy cow... wonder if they plan on him being in avengers or solo films or AT LEAST, the marvel one shots.
TheClemster - 3/13/2014, 11:39 AM
Wow you know what that would be pretty cool because when cap died I was like

"oh man that sucks he is dead for real" lol

We shall see...
Nick56 - 3/13/2014, 11:40 AM
Yup Cap 3 will kill of Cap and Bucky will take over
Pheezmatic - 3/13/2014, 11:45 AM
@Ciph LMAO
JoJo1982 - 3/13/2014, 11:47 AM
@nick

But Chris Evans is signed up for avengers 3

So I don't think he will be killed off in Cap 3
npamusic - 3/13/2014, 11:50 AM
holy shit. 9 picture deal? I thought it was only 6?! whoa.
batz11 - 3/13/2014, 11:51 AM
Interesting, would have predicted a 3 movie deal at most...
npamusic - 3/13/2014, 11:53 AM
Anyone even think that Cap3 may come after Avengers3?
npamusic - 3/13/2014, 11:54 AM
@Batz it was said before that he had a 6 picture deal. 9 is outrageous, but if you think about it, it's not.

SLJ has a 9 picture deal.
JoJo1982 - 3/13/2014, 11:55 AM
@npa

The Russo brothers are set to direct again Cap 3 in 2015

So the answer to ur question..... Nah
arsonjack - 3/13/2014, 11:55 AM
dont kill cap my favourite mcu character.
npamusic - 3/13/2014, 11:55 AM
also, where does he talk about C:TWS? I only see information about his 9 picture deal, not his involvement in the new cap film...
Nomis - 3/13/2014, 12:00 PM
Cap dies and end of 3rd movie and Bucky/Winter Soldier take over in Cap 4 and then they bring Cap back for the 5th movie and then start Winter Soldier solo movies!
TChalla - 3/13/2014, 12:00 PM
@NPa Yeaa i'm changing the title right now to something better
Ramiel - 3/13/2014, 12:22 PM
What if Cap dies in the beginning of Avengers 3 and Bucky becomes the new Cap in that movie? I'd like to see that.
Irvin88 - 3/13/2014, 12:26 PM
Quick ideas came into my head. What happens if the bad guys that have come out, come together to battle the good guys in a future film? Think about it. Loki is still alive. Winter Soildier depending on Cap 2 outcome could be alive. The only bad buy that has died is that guy from Iron man 1 and 2 and Malekith. Could we possibly see a villian reunion by the time it's said and done? I have a feeling that all these movies will tie up. Guardians of the Galaxy is happening at the same time these events on Earth are happening. Loki works for Thanos as well as others. Thanos is the main villian with Loki, Winter Soldier, Red Skull ( didn't actually die) and the bad guys from Dr. strange, Antman, Black Panther, etc. think about that idea. That would be glorious!
OpticBlastWins - 3/13/2014, 12:27 PM
I cant see it being 9 movies. The only reason sam got away with it is because Fury it timeless. Do they even have that many cap stories to tell on the big screen. C2,A2,C3,A3, plus 5 more movies/stories? Really?
Jazza815 - 3/13/2014, 12:56 PM
Really annoys me when they talk about their contracts. It takes the excitement and the unknowable out of the movie magic. He's just confirmed that he's going to be the next Captain America, after Steve dies in Avengers 3. He'll pop in a bunch of films beforehand though so we get used to him.
typicalfanboy - 3/13/2014, 12:57 PM
Cap gon die. Prolly in cap3 bit I'm thinking either he or tony dies in avengers 2
typicalfanboy - 3/13/2014, 12:59 PM
he could still end up showing up in aos or the defenders shows on netflix
GizmoEl - 3/13/2014, 1:05 PM
Just because he has a 9 movie contract does NOT mean they have to make 9 movies. It only means that if they decide to make a movie then he's contractually obligated to be a part of it. He could very easily only show up in a few more movies and that's it.
