With many fans of the series expecting a continuation, Warner Bros. has decided to release the film on August 13, 2010. This will mark the 13th installment of Jason slashing his way on film.
When the remake of "Friday the 13th" was released in February, in a matter of three days it earned $40 million at the box office on a budget of $19 million. Domestically during its run, the film earned only $65 million but for the genre, that's a rather huge accomplishment.
Producer of the film; Brad Fuller, in June hinted at an idea for the sequel. "If we're going to do another 'Friday the 13th,' we want to present something audiences haven't seen before and one of the things they haven't seen before is Jason in the snow," he said.
The fun doesn't stop there because he wants to push the envelope on the murder scenes because it seems viewers weren't too happy.
"People think our kills were not clever enough," he explained. "That criticism goes to my heart. I feel I failed the fans in that those kills were not original enough. So whatever we need to do to make our kills feel clever in our second film is what we're going to do."
I'm a huge fan of the series but with each release, Jason seems to lose the very essence to what allows him to be such a cult classic. I'm not anticipating the sequel but I will see it with hopes they'll alter what made the remake of this year such a disappointment in my eyes.
