Academy Award-winning director Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, WALL-E) is making his live-action debut with upcoming sci-fi adventure John Carter. Today at D23 Expo, The Walt Disney Studios showed some footage from the film, which hopefully we will be able to see soon. But for now, check out what Stanton and stars of the film, Taylor Kitsch and Willem Dafoe had to say about filming and more:

From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton, "John Carter of Mars" is a sweeping action adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). Based on the classic sci-fi novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the film tells the story of John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter discovers that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

I had about a dozen of these books when I was a kid and I loved them. Gil Kane drew some crazy cool four armed tall ass martian men. I want tis to be good and start a new series of cool Sci Fi/Action movies.

Possibly my most anticipated non comic book based film of 2012 along with Gravity, Prometheus and The Hobbit.

I thought that first trailer looked amazing and given the director's prior work I'm feeling pretty good about how this will turn out
