From Academy Award®--winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes "John Carter"—a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). "John Carter" is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

There you go. Based on this and previous reviews and reactions, it seems that Stanton pulled it off in many ways. Hopefully positive word-of-mouth will be big and everyone will go see it. I'll update if I find more reactions. Stay tuned.

Starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston, James Purefoy, Dominic West, Thomas Haden Church and Ciarán Hinds. John Carter is set to hit theatres on March 9!

"I enjoyed John Carter more than I thought that I would enjoy John Carter."
I hate twitter reviews even more than I thought I did hate twitter reviews.

I'll wait for real reviews to come out.

Not much of a Steve Weintraub fan. The guy seems to love everything and talks in overly positive terms all of the time. He doesn't really inform me of a film objectively, so much as cheerlead it.

^ You're right. I like Matt Goldberg as a critic better.

why matt goldberg hates everything 99% if the films he reviews are negative and only give art house films positive reviews

I love Finding Nemo, but I think WALL-E is a better film. Probably because I'm a sucker for science fiction.

Ceejay - 2/21/2012, 7:40 PM
Lynn Collins should have played Lois Lane, but no, they had to get that old ginger-bag with the teen girlie voice Amy Adams and have fanboys convince themselves she'll do!
Spidey31 - 2/21/2012, 7:42 PM
Does anyone think this can be the star wars of my generation?? I've been waiting so long for that sci-fi movie that will be as mind bobbiling as star wars was for those 50 year olds out there lol.
pro346 - 2/21/2012, 7:45 PM

@ncreb No. I am not "apart" of SOAL, I've just been here since the origin of SOAL, I am very much interested it and have supported it since it first took effect on this site. I'd go to your facebook page, but I refuse to participate in social networking sites. i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc.

marvel72 - 2/22/2012, 1:44 AM
been behind this movie from the start,i knew it would be good.
ckal - 2/22/2012, 3:24 AM
This doesn't look good to me.

I predict it gets mediocre/average reviews on rotten tomatoes, somewhere in the 60's.
CrowPirate1 - 2/22/2012, 5:46 AM
Growing up, I read and re-read the Tarzan books and the John Carter ones. I finally also included Verne, Wells, and other authors... but those books were my entrance to sci fi/action novels.

They need to redo Tarzan.. but it's a hard sell. I am just amazed the John Carter books never have been really attempted before, and I am very pleased with what I see, although in my mind, I always pictured Carter more like Clint Eastwood's Man with No Name.. for some reason, than this actor.

I am looking forward to changing that in my mind. Can't wait for the movie.
CrashTest - 2/22/2012, 7:17 AM
yeah, I don't buy it. They sound like they have all been paid to say that.
hoodedjester - 2/22/2012, 7:29 AM
I'll wait for actual reviews from people who aren't paid to watch films for a living. movie looks good tho
