James Cameron On PROMETHEUS And Ridley Scott's Return To ALIEN Universe

This summer, Ridley Scott returns to Alien universe with the upcoming film Prometheus, which is set 30 years before the original 1979 film. Now, James Cameron, who directed a sequel to Alien, shares some of his thoughts regarding Prometheus (starts at 1:26). He also talks a little bit about Avatar sequels and if we will ever see Terminator films in 3D. Check out the video below:


Starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba and Logan Marshall-Green, Prometheus is set to hit theatres on June 8th, 2012.

I did like Avatar, don't care if it was derivative. But yeah Aliens was a brilliant action movie, but I still prefer the original for all out tension and character.

A bit into himself, but still a cool guy. He knows how to make the hits that's for sure.

He's got the resume of very memorable movies, not successful movies, MEMORABLE movies, the kind of movie everyone has at least heard about.

He's the epitome of typical hollywood in every way.

That doesn't mean everything in his films are good. Every single one of his films I have things I both love and hate.

He was in a sub headed for the lowest point on Earth - the Mariana's Trench, which is pretty ballzy for a guy who's got a lot to lose. The trench is more than 6 miles beneath the ocean. Very dangerous.

What are you talking about? He directed the most successful movie of all time!TWICE! As well as at least three more of the worlds most loved...how is that more memorable than successful?!?

Uh, hated his last two films (Titanic and Avatar).

I didn't mean it like that. I consider a successful movie a step down or more from a MEMORABLE movie. Transformers 3 was a successful movie, but give it 30 years no one will care about it. It's like saying, "it's not a good movie, it's a GREAT movie."

Same idea.

I personally would rather see Cameron doing some other sci fi flick instead of devoting 10 more years to two avatar sequels.

aliens & terminator are his two best films.

1st aliens (very good)
2nd terminator (very good)
3rd terminator 2 (very good)
4th avatar (good)
5th the abyss (good)
6th true lies (good)
7th titanic (shit,apart from the ending spoiler alert it hits iceberg)

i think thats all that i've seen.

I think he is just one of those rare guys that has both. And if I'm not mistaken, I think terminator 2 was the biggest movie ever at that point as well.

THINGS CAN BE SAID ABOUT THIS GUY BUT ITS UNDENIABLE THAT HE MAKES MEGA HIT MOVIES AND INSPIRES OTHER DIRECTORS TO FOLLOW HIS IDEAS, HE STARTED CGI..HE STARTED THE 3D STUFF..THE GUY IS A PIONEER IN THE INDUSTRY.

James Cameron should direct Promethesus sequel ! And continue the pattern with David Fincher for Promethesus 3 :D

Cameron always said if Ridley returned to the Alien franchise then he would as well. hopefully Avatar doesnt kill that possibility

As much as I like Alien I think Aliens is a much better movie. The effects and visuals were fantastic for it's time.

As far as Cameron goes, from what I hear apparently he's a crazy asshole for the actors to deal with on-set, but dang that guy knows how to make good movies.

And for the record, I don't get all the hate that Avatar gets. Yeah it's basically Dances With Space Wolves, (or any other "Going Native" story that's been done a bazillion times) but who cares? Dances with Wolves was awesome. So if that's the movie you're going to emulate, you're making a good choice

@GrayMatter - I gotta agree with you. I really liked Avatar. Who cares if the story isn't completely original, that's hardly the point. He took a classic story and molded it into a Science Fiction film, and not only did he do an incredible job retelling the story, he gave us some of the most beautiful special effects on a scale not seen before. They created an alien jungle from scratch! Give the guy some credit, even if he is an ass to work with (which I'm sure isn't entirely true). The point is he gets the job done.

It's funny how out of Scott, Cameron and Fincher the one who directed the shittiest Alien movie became the best director.

I couldn't watch anymore after he called his own movie a timeless classic...what a total douche...And the tar sands are as good a place as any to get oil and you don't have to buy it off of terrorists, dumbass!

He was good back in the day. T2 was really boss.

Actually Avatar isn't terrible. The problem was the forced hype they tried to make.

Nice flick to watch when you have nothing else to do. But I'd watch it 2 or 3 times MAX.

Not a fan of this guy. Camaron only made two movies worth watching: Aliens and T2. Everything else he has done, except Abyss, which was damn boring, has been a rehash and dumbing down of plotlines from older movies, and Avatar made almost no attempt to seperate it's script from Dances With Wolves.

But hey, if people judge quality and enjoyment from box office takes, then those same people must love them some Twilight!

@Knossis, mbembet, and Monkeyballs - agreed. Although not mad at him for Titanic, just the dumbasses that loved it so much to spend that much money on it.
