With filming underway for Shane Black and Marvel's Iron Man 3, some more casting additions are being revealed. The latest one is that William Sadler has joined the impressive cast in a mysterious role. From Latino Review:

Yesterday, Guy Pearce (who will be playing Aldrich Killian) graced Wilmington for a costume fitting along with a familiar face that is as-yet-unreported. Who was that blond man wandering around the ‘Iron Man 3′ stages?

Why it was WILLIAM SADLER!

The report also reveals a little bit more info on the villains, and how exactly will they be portrayed in the film:

A movie that had both Coldblood-7, Mandarin AND Firepower would be over-packed, so look for James Badge Dale and Ashley Hamilton to be villains, but not in robo-cop and Iron Man suits respectively.

Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, James Badge Dale and Rebecca Hall, Iron Man 3 is set to hit theatres on May 3, 2013.

I drove past the filming location in downtown Wilmington yesterday. Security guards on the streets and film equipment roped off outside the building. They are currently filming in the Cape Fear Men's Club next to my office.

why do fan always get worried when there are multiple villains lol, they all dont need some over explained explanation to justify there presence in the film, more than likely they'll just be interesting cannon fodder,
GiantNerd0720 - 5/25/2012, 9:34 AM
This dude bothered the shit out of me in the mist. But I guess that was kind of the point. Lol
RunDTC - 5/25/2012, 9:34 AM
whoa.....that is awesome.
blvdnoise - 5/25/2012, 9:35 AM
Hmmm.. Laying it on thick for IM3 aye?
ecksmanfan - 5/25/2012, 9:36 AM
Great addition, but we are headed into Spider-Man 3 territory with the number of villains here. I have faith that Marvel knows what they are doing, but I'm not going to lie: that's a lot of villains for one flick
BooYah - 5/25/2012, 9:37 AM
Interesting to see how this turns out.
LucasMend - 5/25/2012, 9:37 AM
"so look for James Badge Dale and Ashley Hamilton to be villains, but not in robo-cop and Iron Man suits respectively." seems good to me, enough of suit armors villains for god sake
MassExecutions - 5/25/2012, 9:39 AM
Nifty. Solid actor. So long as all the villains are aligned and related to a common source without each having their own complicated origin baggage, then I think it will be okay.
sexfoodcomics - 5/25/2012, 9:43 AM
The amount of villains in a movie don't matter. It's how they are written int the movie that matters. avengers was proof of this. 6 main characters and the movie worked.
jessepostal - 5/25/2012, 9:44 AM
Loved him In demon knight and when he played the executioner in that tales from the crypt episode. He's had a lot of good roles actually haha
Kayo - 5/25/2012, 9:45 AM
this movie is going to be big...................yeah baby!
soberchimera - 5/25/2012, 9:49 AM
Spymaster!!!

[frick] -- at this rate, this movie will have more villains than Spiderman 3 and Batman & Robin combined.

When will studios learn their lesson? The maximum acceptable amount of villains in a CBM is 2.

3 is acceptable when -- AND ONLY [frick]ING WHEN -- the third villain has a small/cameo role (i.e. Zsasz in Batman Begins or Thanos in the Avengers). Don't be an idiot, Shane Black, just don't.
Tainted87 - 5/25/2012, 10:01 AM
Batman Begins had Joe Chill, Carmine Falcone, Scarecrow, Ra's al Ghul, Mr Zsaaz, AND Rachel Dawes... and was still awesome.

Don't whine about the amount of villains. Spider-man 3 sucked because of the story. Don't call them "villains" either; they are characters. Think outside the CBM world, check out other movies that have incorporated around (or more than) a dozen characters into their story. So long as the story allows for it, it will work. The characters are just relays for the movie to progress, but they could be really cool and interesting relays.
nof721 - 5/25/2012, 10:04 AM
Alright 1st it doesn't say anywhere that he is playing a villan and 2nd, Mandarin could still be in it. All they need to do is make him N.Korean instead of Chinese.
Chewtoy - 5/25/2012, 10:04 AM
@Reverend: The Dark Knight had an absurd number of villains... Joker, Two-Face, that accountant guy who fled the country, multiple crime lords, Scarecrow, the weasel that tried to blackmail Wayne...
marantaz - 5/25/2012, 10:06 AM
I also loved his Grim Reaper in Bill & Ted ... made that movie worth seeing...he gets into his roles, so I doubt it will be a small part.
soforizo - 5/25/2012, 10:23 AM
@Chewtoy

That's right. TDK made it work with multiple villains of different ability, but you need good writing to handle it. I'm somewhat skeptical whether IM3 will pull it off, but we'll see.
TruePunishment - 5/25/2012, 10:24 AM
Speaking of multiple villains, am I the only one who wants to see Spidey eventually take on the Sinister Six?
Necroxide - 5/25/2012, 10:24 AM
I think the 10 rings , Its a big organization , and if there are in the movie , it would be logical to have many villains .
ironpool007 - 5/25/2012, 10:31 AM
This movie is getting packed with Villains. I dont remember Killenger having that big of a role.
tazmaniak - 5/25/2012, 10:31 AM
Isn't Extremis like a tech version of the Super Soldier serum? And isn't it a virus? So if you're doing a movie about a technological virus that possibly spreads, doesn't it stand to reason that there should be multiple tech or armored individuals in that film? I mean, that's a really cool way to introduce multiple tech-based Iron Man or Marvel Universe villains without having to give them individual origins.

We've seen that the government was trying to reproduce the Super Soldier serum in other Marvel films, so Extremis could be the next step. And if the goal is to give this to soldiers, then it makes sense to have several Extremis infected people/soldiers/villains in the movie.

We've seen Tony take on multiple drones in Iron Man 2 and an alien army and leviathans in Avengers. After that, he's going to need more than just one villain to put up a challenge. He's going to need 3 or 4.
spidey1994 - 5/25/2012, 10:40 AM
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! William Sadler is awesome, maybe he might be Ghost. Just putting it out there :)
Timerider84 - 5/25/2012, 10:47 AM
valeriesghost - 5/25/2012, 10:51 AM
Love William Sadler! he's a great addition to any cast IMO
BattlinMurdock - 5/25/2012, 10:51 AM
All they're doing is casting. The script's already been written; and RDJ has said it's the best script he's read in six years. That includes Iron Man and the Avengers. They've already got everything they need written, and Downey Jr. is confident that it's going to be spectacular.

That and the huge budget gain the film just got?

I think this could be better than Avengers.
plasticman - 5/25/2012, 10:58 AM
He could be an army general bent on taking out Iron Man for something Tony Stark caused.
wildbillyb - 5/25/2012, 11:03 AM
here's hoping for some naked tai chi!
Ranger14 - 5/25/2012, 11:04 AM
Coldblood isn't really a villain per se'. I just have to chuckle at the people freaking out over there being "too many villains". We don't really know anything yet and as already mentioned, it all depends on how it is written and directed.
mikesinuman - 5/25/2012, 11:54 AM
i think we'll be seeing WAR MACHINE again. and hopefully RESCUE.
MightyMohawks - 5/25/2012, 11:58 AM
I think Coldblood won't be a major villain. They din't even conform Coldblood, they conformed his alter ego.
MightyMohawks - 5/25/2012, 12:03 PM
Even if he is in it, he will probably be a henchman
Morbius - 5/25/2012, 12:17 PM
Jeez who are they gonna ad next George Clooney???
plasticman - 5/25/2012, 12:22 PM
Blackbolt? I only say that because what would be more friggin cool than seeing Blackbolt whipser in the destruction of a city on the big screen?
Fabius - 5/25/2012, 12:35 PM
He was perfect in DIEHARD 2; so good choice !
AsgardianWarrior05 - 5/25/2012, 2:37 PM
No one is gonna mention it??

Ok, I will. Haywood from Shawshank!!

"Haywood, what you in for"

"Didn't do it, lawyer [frick]ed me"
mgeoff88 - 5/25/2012, 6:38 PM
He is a good casting choice. A lot of people are mentioning him being in Die Hard 2, but don't forget he was also in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey.

So Coldblood and Firepower will be more like Justin Hammer(minor villain) in IM2? That makes me feel a bit better that they're not going to be full on villains.

Mandarin is the major villain here. It should stay that way.
Rodimus9 - 5/25/2012, 9:07 PM
FireKnightRises - 5/25/2012, 10:22 PM
no worry most of these people just fodder in armor that iron man will beat up
EarOne - 5/25/2012, 10:30 PM
he's awesome as the baddie in Die Hard 2. and also good in The Mist.
DioFoRio - 5/25/2012, 10:38 PM
what an eclectic cast
TexasTwoFace - 5/25/2012, 10:57 PM
I much prefer superhero films to have just one main antagonist like The Avengers or Captain America but if they are just smaller characters in the movie like Carmine Falcone and Justin Hammer otherwise they usually end up like Spider-man 3 or Batman & Robin where they have to end up spending too much time explaining the origins and have a convoluted finale because of too divergent goals for the differing antagonists.
TexasTwoFace - 5/25/2012, 11:24 PM
I like what I've been hearing, and can't wait to see it. Time is now measured according to how long it is until the next Marvel movie.
fistofkhonshu - 5/26/2012, 1:21 AM
How freakin' cool would it be if he was Eric Williams, the GRIM REAPER, brother to Simon Williams, who Tony Stark put out of business....!
Jollem - 5/26/2012, 2:44 AM
Breaker!!! they got [frick]ING Breaker from my favorite cbm of all time! Demon Knight is my favorite guilty pleasure movie of all time! [frick] YEAH!
marvel72 - 5/26/2012, 5:07 AM
sounds like they might be doing a sort of armour wars storyline.
