Dredd takes place on a fictional Earth created as a result of the Atomic Wars. Survivors of this period are living in Mega-Cities, which protects its citizens from the Cursed Earth, a radioactive desert environment populated by mutants. The main story takes place in Mega-City One, where the police who are now called judges have the power to use police brutality to some extent to fight extreme murders. One man, Judge Dredd (Karl Urban), a senior law enforcement officer, teams up with a cadet called Judge Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) to track down a terrorist organization lead by Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), who is responsible for selling a reality-altering drug called Slo-Mo.

Dredd is set for September 21st, 2012 release.

@Name: Judge Dredd would rip your lungs out and feed them to you, unlike Batman...who would just slap you about a bit and incarcerate you in Arkham Asylum!
CBMJamie - 6/21/2012, 9:22 AM
doesn't look good but it's only the first trailer ... for me it just looks like too many action sequences and cheesy one-liners
SeaborneLegend - 6/21/2012, 9:22 AM

@SupLezz: What more do want from a low budget trailer you little girl. Not enough explosions for you? Sorry, I was unfair thinking 11 year old children are not allowed an opinion........sorry! Hey, The new spider-man film is out soon. Maybe your Ma could take ya! ;)
LOL - 6/21/2012, 9:25 AM
Umm... did they just give away the ending right there at the last clip???
ElApe - 6/21/2012, 9:26 AM
Wasn't that the storyline to Robocop 2 mixed with that Dirty Harry film where his new female partner gets shot? Still, looks better than expected.

Has anyone here actually read a Judge Dredd comic? Sorry, but I'm new to this site and presumed it was for people with an educated opinion, commenting on films based on beloved comic books. Could someone possibly point me in the direction of a site for the wiser comic book consumer that has at least three hairs on their balls.
deadshotzero - 6/21/2012, 9:31 AM
holy sh!!t was that dredd throwing ma'ma out the window at the end, the sentance is death, holy shizznit its the first god damm trailor and they show that in it feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeck me.
JediJoker515 - 6/21/2012, 9:32 AM
Looks just as cheesy as the Stallone version. I could be wrong but this trailer did nothing to show me that it's not just another cheesy predictable action flick.
blvdnoise - 6/21/2012, 9:33 AM
i DON'T KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS.
nonserviam - 6/21/2012, 9:34 AM
Judge DRaidd
TankD - 6/21/2012, 9:34 AM
It actually looks really good and wasn't it praised at cannes? For those that don't expect it to be good because of that are uncultured white trash that probably are into baseball or something LOOKS GOOD
roybatt - 6/21/2012, 9:36 AM
AWESOME!!!! I loved it. Looking forward to this more than any other comic book movie. I love Dredd and I'm sick of the costumes, super powers and origin stories. This looks and feels fresh and distinctive. What's so great about this as well is that the producers have been brave enough to make it R rated and not water it down just so they can make more money. You wanted a real Dredd movie- "Well you got one now":-)
ThaMessenger07 - 6/21/2012, 9:38 AM

damn... i was hoping for better. when can we stop doing that whole zack snyder slow-mo thing? now the whole movie is based around that? Urban deserved better.
GLprime2814 - 6/21/2012, 9:44 AM
Southey remade the old one w/o rob sshnider?
SupermansBeard - 6/21/2012, 9:44 AM
who was that artist singing in the beginning of the trailer?
ModernAvenger89 - 6/21/2012, 9:47 AM
The woman he sentences at the end isn't Ma-Ma. She has long hair, whereas Ma-Ma has short hair.
Starlight - 6/21/2012, 9:48 AM
I LIKED IT !!!! Looks very promising !!!
CaptainObvious - 6/21/2012, 9:49 AM
No matter how this movie turns out, it can't be any worse than the 1995 version.
zachshivey - 6/21/2012, 9:52 AM
Not bad....if Stallone had a secret cameo that'd make it a little better
dreddhead123 - 6/21/2012, 9:58 AM
I am one of the biggest Dredd geeks you'll ever wish to meet (or avoid) and I reviewed the leaked screenplay back in 2010 and I gave it four out ten. I gave it that score because it felt like Dredd's world forced into a Die Hard type plot.

However..

This is a great day to be a 2000AD/Judge Dredd fan!!!!!!!!

I think the trailer does look cool and I've come round to the plot. It's a bit too simplistic, you get the impression Alex Garland thought "what the heck, movie goers are too dumb to like a more complex storyline, I'll just do Dredd vs perps in corridors" and I think that was a narrow minded view to have but overall I think the trailer looks pretty damn good and if the film is enjoyable I'll definitely upgrade my 4 out of 10 to a much higher mark. Sometimes it's nice to be proven wrong. :)

Today is the day of Judge Dredd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ranger14 - 6/21/2012, 10:02 AM
Low resolution...high resolution...it's still a "meh" for me. No chin...no Dredd! :-P Kidding...kind of.
bane187 - 6/21/2012, 10:03 AM
I AM THE LAW!!!!
Optimus83 - 6/21/2012, 10:04 AM
¡Good!. ..."The Negotations is Over"
dreddhead123 - 6/21/2012, 10:04 AM
Let's move on from the 'chin' debate. Zzzz :P
Ranger14 - 6/21/2012, 10:08 AM
Sure...it's just his signature feature. No big deal. :-P
spenderjgant - 6/21/2012, 10:15 AM

That looks epic, that looks action packed, that looks hard as f****** nails.

That looks like Dredd.

dreddhead123 - 6/21/2012, 10:23 AM
Best ever end to a comic book film trailer?

Yep. Total bad ass moment.

Urban has got the performance right. He's playing Dredd as a total bad ass future cop but not too over-the-top. Notice he's not shouting out the lines. He's keeping it cool and underplayed.:) It's important to remember Judge Dredd is a lawman so he has a code of behaviour, he's a good guy (sort of, er well not much, but you get my point!) and Urban conveys that.

Fingers crossed it all works in the actual film. A trailer is just a trailer - remember Phantom Menace? - but fingers crossed it's a cool action film. :)
AlexDeLarge87 - 6/21/2012, 10:24 AM
Looks cool to me. :)

I hope it gets sequel with some rebellious Cursed Earth mutants.
AlexDeLarge87 - 6/21/2012, 10:26 AM
Dredd bringing some justice to Cursed Earth with his colleagues.
AsianVersionOfET - 6/21/2012, 10:27 AM
Probably won't even see this...as in, not at the theater and not when it gets released on Blu ray.
RacerREX - 6/21/2012, 10:33 AM
I am looking forward to this, but I was expecting alot more from that trailer. (had to watch elsewhere as play disabled on the above embedded player). I liked the grittier look of Mega-city but the action was lacking. Here's hoping the final product delivers!
supermarioworldE - 6/21/2012, 10:40 AM
This is the freakin' Dredd film that I've been waiting for!

My balls just clapped together in delight!
Stumblin - 6/21/2012, 10:42 AM
Just curious, but is this movie following any existing story from the books?
Ranger14 - 6/21/2012, 10:42 AM
"If you don't care to see it why waste your time clicking on the theard and commenting?"

Because that is what these forums are for. To discuss our opinion. Whether we like or dislike what we are seeing in a film. I am a Dredd fan and I have just as much right to say I am underwhelmed as one does to say they are overwhelmed.

Nubase - 6/21/2012, 10:43 AM
Finally a true dredd movie is coming, and most inportant its a r rated movie.

The creator of the dredd comics saw the premiere in cannes a few months ago and said its a true dredd movie so if he gave it his blessing then it has to be good.

Some peeps have already compared it tot the raid redemption simply cos of the tower block..well if this movie is good as the raid in terms of action then we are in for a treat.

This movie won't be a summer blockbuster making millions, its practically an independent movie but l'm sure it will be cult classic.

The makers of the upcoming wolverine should take notice of this movie.
95 - 6/21/2012, 10:46 AM
Glad. No rock music.
(tired of it for trailers).
