Back in April, Black Film had a chance to interview Tim Story for his new film Think Like a Man. He was also asked about Fantastic Four, what he thinks of the upcoming reboot and what would he like to see in that one. As you know, Story directed the two previous Fantastic Four films, so it's interesting to see what he has to say. More below:

"I knew that would happen. It’s inevitable. I was part of a franchise where the guy who’s going to do the next one will do 2 or 3 films and someone else will come in when they reinvent it again. I literally can’t wait to see the next one because you want to see what they do with it. It’s all good. It’s about commerce and the also the industry that we are in."

As for what storyline he would like to see in the reboot, he added:

"I would like to see ‘The Ultimate Fantastic Four,’ where they use the young kids who don’t go up in space. Reed Richards builds this thing and creates an ultimate universe and that’s how they get their powers. In my opinion, that would be amazing."

Story seems quite enthusiastic about the new film, that's for sure. Both Fantastic Four and Rise of the Silver Surfer were solid box office hits for the studio, and with Chronicle director Josh Trank helming the reboot, we'll see how things go from here.

disney should buy the rights to the fantastic 4 or do the trade they were talking about...
Ryguy88 - 8/7/2012, 12:39 PM
I think everyone who patrons this site can agree that Tim Story is a hack and his F4 movies are as bad as CBMs can get.
DanteSparda - 8/7/2012, 12:41 PM
There aren't much good losers like him now days.
marcel - 8/7/2012, 12:41 PM
Unwatchable garbage
TheAmazingSpiderWill - 8/7/2012, 12:42 PM
Definately think they should just sell the rights back to Disney/Marvel they could give us a near perfect FF flick.
Jordanstine - 8/7/2012, 12:43 PM
FOX ruined the Fantastic Four film franchise.

Booooo Fox
Supes17 - 8/7/2012, 12:44 PM
[frick] you and your Galactus Fart-CLoud
jessepostal - 8/7/2012, 12:44 PM
I disagree, he's not a hack, he made a good ff movie, it was just targeted at the family and young adult audience.
JayTopStix - 8/7/2012, 12:44 PM
I am glad he is not involved. Tim Story's logic: "Hey you know who's really hot? Jessica Alba! Why don't we dye her hair blonde and give her some blue contacts! Totally Susan Storm right?
I agree FF is as bad as CMB's can get.

Best about FF? Human Torch and Thing.
Worst about FF? I would say everything but I am gonna have to stick with Dr.Doom and the whole plot

Supes17 - 8/7/2012, 12:45 PM
And I mean that with all my heart, Tim Story :)
CherryBomb - 8/7/2012, 12:45 PM
I really hope they step it up on the sequel.
I think it should be titled 'F4' and should definitely take itself more seriously.
We need a good cast behind it. I think Josh Trank will do the film justice, hopefully.
JayTopStix - 8/7/2012, 12:45 PM
Galactus Fart-Cloud?

LMAO!!!!
Supes17 - 8/7/2012, 12:45 PM
The Thing and Human Torch were good. Taken straight from the comics
ckal - 8/7/2012, 12:46 PM
Who cares what the director of two terrible FF movies wants to see in a FF reboot?
billytwohats - 8/7/2012, 12:46 PM
Yeah if Disney bought the rights they could cast Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Minnie!
PantherX - 8/7/2012, 12:46 PM
I really, really want the FF to return to Marvel where they belong. Before it wasn't such a big deal, but the way they're heading it HAS to happen.
CaptainObvious - 8/7/2012, 12:47 PM
Who's idea was it to turn Galactus into that smoke monster from Lost?
CherryBomb - 8/7/2012, 12:49 PM

I really hope they cast Amber Heard as Sue.
She's exactly how I picture Sue. Quite a bit younger than Reed, but definitely beautiful and intelligent and I think Amber can certainly portray a great balance between beauty and brains as well as the fierce compassion and determination of Sue.

DJRock93 - 8/7/2012, 12:50 PM
I enjoyed The F4...I was also 12 yrs old...looking back, yeah it's a horrible film, but I still found it fun to watch and imho nothing could ever be as bad as Ghost Rider, not even 2003's Hulk. That being said, I want the F4 rights back at Marvel. DD can stay at Fox, but the Avengers would be awesome with the F4 and their story characters. Kill the reboot, take the deal Fox
jaewest215 - 8/7/2012, 12:51 PM
Alot of people don't understand that its not always the directors fault as to why as CBM fail. Most times its the investors involved. They want the movie to be a success because they want to see a return on their money. But they want to have a certain level of control and start thinking they are experts and giving orders to something they know nothing about.

The WB gave Nolan the space to work. Whedon also but to extent. I think they could've did better than this on the FF4 movies. It looked like the studio was too much involved.
ABLEE337 - 8/7/2012, 12:52 PM
Mmmmmmm. Amber Heard.
accountnolongerinuse - 8/7/2012, 12:52 PM
I can't bear watching his Fantastic Four films, but I have to agree with him on using the Ultimate storyline for inspiration. But then, I never really took to the Four until I picked up the first hardcover volume of Ultimate.
NOLANITE - 8/7/2012, 12:52 PM
Who's idea was it to turn Galactus into flying cloud of diarrhea poop?

gepeto - 8/7/2012, 12:53 PM
i always pictured george clooney as MR fantastic i dont know why i just do...is that stupid
CherryBomb - 8/7/2012, 12:54 PM

@cipher I agree! :( Jessica Alba is stunning, but she really isn't Sue Storm. No part in the film did I ever believe the intelligence of Sue.
marvel72 - 8/7/2012, 12:55 PM
no thanks to ultimate fantastic four.
jazzman - 8/7/2012, 12:55 PM
@billytwohats

not funny at all.

@JayTopStix

u can say the same with when they casted a white actress and make them look latino or mixed race lol.
superotherside - 8/7/2012, 12:55 PM
These movies were pretty bad. Never read Ultimate FF, but I personally would like a more cosmic FF. Let Doom's story unfold a bit more and have another villain to concentrate on.
jazzman - 8/7/2012, 12:56 PM
@CherryBomb

Amber Heard feels too young to play Sue Storm
TayDee - 8/7/2012, 12:57 PM
The FF are boring imo, so I hope a reboot isn't made
Raistlin921 - 8/7/2012, 12:58 PM
There are a handful of directors out there who need to thank God for Batman & Robin. Because of Batman & Robin, I can’t say the FF movie is the worst movie ever made since Batman & Robin permanently holds that title. So this guy, and whoever (not worth remembering) made X-men 3, Daredevil and Ghost Rider get a free pass since someone already won the prize of making the worst CBM of all time.
billytwohats - 8/7/2012, 12:58 PM
@jazzman. Yes it is.
HelaGood - 8/7/2012, 1:02 PM
yeah....no
comicb00kguy - 8/7/2012, 1:03 PM
Asking Story what he would like to see in the new FF film is like asking Schumacher what he would liked to see in TDKR. He had his shot at the FF and blew it. Cumulogalactus? Please.

How to do the new film right: Do the origin the way Lee and Kirby did it (FOUR people in a rocket trip that doesn't go as expected, that EMBRACE their newfound powers and decide to use them for the good of mankind. Give Doom his proper origin as we saw in FF Annual 2- this can be simplified and done in a couple of minutes. Most important of all: give it a feel like the Avengers- a film that embraces its comic-book origin and celebrates all that is cool about comic books, rather than acting embarrassed at its source and ruining everything that made the FF one of Marvel's cornerstone franchises to this day. The second one wasn't as bad- Torch and the Thing's interactions were funny and well written.
jazzman - 8/7/2012, 1:04 PM
i remember Tim Story wanted Black Panther in Fantastic Four 3
CaptainObvious - 8/7/2012, 1:05 PM
The worst part of these movies was Dr. Doom's motivation. He's upset because Reed stole his girl. Wow. What a pussy. How do you make such a great villain stoop to such a demeaning, immature low? Of all the horribly portrayed villains in comic book movies, Dr. Doom is the worst offender. Simply because of how the character's dignity was stripped away. That is the most unforgivable part of these horrendous movies.
comicb00kguy - 8/7/2012, 1:06 PM
And NO THANKS to doing "ultimate FF". Do it straight, give it at least a good dose of the classic (though taking things from Byrne, DeFalco, Waid, and wasn't there a good run on this book a couple of years ago?- is cool by me as long as the result is good), and one more thing: NO RELUCTANT HEROES! I'm f*cking sick and tired of that overused and annoying as hell plot device.
Caveboy0 - 8/7/2012, 1:09 PM
i liked the second one, but i suppose that is compared to shit. just some moments i thought were kind of cool. like seeing the team working with the military. felt bigger in scope. the effects were pretty cool, although there were some really weak points.

and doom was a little more doom like.

maybe if they attempted a more honest silver age throw back it could have worked, but what came out was just dumb movies.
CaptainObvious - 8/7/2012, 1:10 PM
I'm surprised they didn't just call Dr. Doom in these movies "Pussy McChickenshit."
Optimus83 - 8/7/2012, 1:11 PM
¡¡¡FANTASTIC FOUR REBOOT!!!. ...¡¡¡NOW!!!

¡¡¡JULIAN MCMAHON AS DR. DOOM!!!. ...¡¡¡NOW!!!
lapress - 8/7/2012, 1:11 PM
They should base the movie off this issue:

fettastic - 8/7/2012, 1:12 PM
Both FF films are pretty good, despite some flaws. Rise of the Silver Surfer wasnot a "solid hit for the studio" or else Tim Story would have made a third one. I'm sure everyone was already signed so it would just have been a matter of doing it.

The first film made the studio around $50M, the second lost about the same. It had nothing to do with "the nature of the business to reboot every few years".
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/7/2012, 1:14 PM
Best about Fox´s Fantastic Four?... Silver Surfer.
GunMetalScroll - 8/7/2012, 1:14 PM
The previous FF movies were terrible, I must admit I never understood why Hollywood needs to destroy old movies by making reboots it makes no sense.
CherryBomb - 8/7/2012, 1:15 PM

@jazzman Amber Heard is 26, and Jessica Alba was 24 when the first Fantastic 4 came out (:

I always thought Sue was quite a bit younger than Reed, I'm sure I read it somewhere,
fettastic - 8/7/2012, 1:17 PM
The best thing about teh Tim Story films is The Thing and Johnny Storm, and their relationship. That aspect was completely nailed in both films.

I also thought the Silver Surfer effects were pretty cool.

I agree that the ending was BS.
CherryBomb - 8/7/2012, 1:17 PM
Benedict Cumberbatch as Reed Richards perhaps?

CherryBomb - 8/7/2012, 1:19 PM
Gromblidor - 8/7/2012, 1:20 PM
Come on Dis-vel, just put up the money and buy the rights back. I want to see the Ultimate Nulifier, the Negative Zone, and Annihilus! And the real Galactus!
jazzman - 8/7/2012, 1:27 PM
@CherryBomb

yeah Jessica Alba was young but i never liked that shes was casted as Sue.
