Maybe it'll have legs, hopefully? The movie was too much fun to get buried at the box office.

I went Friday night and the theater wasn't packed at all. Hopefully this doesn't affect the third one.

The problem is that it is much worse than the first one. The first one was a dumb action movie but it still took itself (mostly) seriously. This one was SO corny and SO self aware it was painful to watch. None of the characters besides Sly had anything to do besides spout bizarre lines and shoot people. The worst thing though was Chuck Norris reciting one of those awful "Chuck Norris Facts" that were so popular eons ago.

well, i've heard from a lot of people that this is a realy bad film so it's probably gonna meet in the middle 'cause nothing about this film lets me think that anyone gave a shit about anything while making the film.

I guess people just don't appreciate an old school style action flick with some of the badass action stars on the planet. Can't wait to see this one.

I don't think this bodes well for Dredd 3D. That's R rated too. I'm guessing a 20 million or less box office opening for Dredd.

And Sylvester Stallone played Judge Dredd in 1995. :)

I just read the full item. Exp 2 has made less money in its three day opening than the first one did in its opening. Wow - that's surprising. Would have thought the fanbase from the first movie would have got a few more people interested in seeing the sequel.

Perhaps the other problem is 'age'. Younger movie goers may not want to see 50 - 60 year old actors being tough. They may find it harder to relate to old action stars. I can't imagine the Twilight/Hunger Games/Spider-man teens getting excited by seeing Stallone and the rest of the crew.

This doesn't surprise me. I grew up watching and loving these action stars from when they first started, but would never shell out the money to see this film in the theaters. I don't think it is just the younger generation who doesn't care.

"The film received an "A-" CinemaScore, which should result in a good word-of-mouth."

Average Joe Q. Public hasn't even heard of Cinemascore, so I doubt that will have any affect on anything other than word of mouth between film geeks who might check out Cinemascore. Other review sites haven't been too kind overall on the film. 5.8 out of 10 on RT for the average rating so far.

i wouldn't worry too much about dredd, its got budget of $45,000,000 & its in 3d as well.

if grosses $150-$200,000,000 worldwide i would consider that a hit considering what it cost to make.

Can't believe we live in a world where 28 million is disappointing.

I think that the main fans of these movies, the people that grew up with these actors and this genre of action now have kids and jobs and can't exactly rush out to see this movie opening weekend, there are more important things. It'll def make its bank though give it time, one rainy day and 3000 construction and iron workers will pack the theatres

Considering the fact that the movie is rated R this is not dissapointing. Many of Stallone movies have opened this way & gone on to be huge successes. People must realize that every movie will not make the numbers The Dark Knight Rises & The Avengers make I think the film industry has gotten spoiled in people thinking that way I enjoyed the Expendables it had the best action & humor so far out of summer movies & I am also glad to see TDKR still performing well.

Ceejay - 8/19/2012, 11:13 AM
@angus666 - $28 million is hugely disappointing if you spent over $100 million making the film, which these idiots did!

I'd watch films this dumb but I wouldn't pay real money to see them especially if it stars people who's acting ability is baseline like Arnold and Van Damme. Only fanboys kept these guys in any level of spotlight, the rest of the rational thinking public stopped finding these monotone idiots entertaining a long time ago.

I'd rather see TDKR a fourth time than spend my money on this.

I'm sure wasn't #1 due to piracy and that it came out way too late but still intested to know the results....
