Why are so many people paying for this?

This is good, now let's hope Sony learned it lesson from the mistakes made in this one...

Good movie. That's it. I'm glad it's doing so well though because the cast deserve it, and hopefully we will get a MUCH better sequel.

The best Spider-Man film out there and the best origin movie among CBMs, topping Batman Begins and Iron Man, this year gave me two of my favorite CBMs ever at once.

Go Avengers, go Spidey and let's reboot the Batman!

This movie was not Amazing.More like Meh!The sequel's trailer will have to blow my socks before I see it.Not hyped for this reboot at all.

yeah, it's a machine that does a few things. what's your big problem with that? howzabout a portal opening machine that allows technology-controlled aliens to teleport to earth? or a glow stick that stops the machine if you touch it with the stick? you ever read a comic more than once or twice? "antidote machine"? really? that's a problem?

3 - super secret science mortar

it's not a mortar. this is also the same thing as you just said. but, you do have a penchant for repeating yourself over and over again when you poop on stuff.

4 - chain swinging montage

peter swinging on the chains was one part of the power/ability exploration "montage"

5 - shitty music

you didn't like the music? that's too bad. i did.

6 - nonstop crying

lol. i like the exaggeration. i'm sure if your father-figure were to get shot almost in front of you when you were 17 you would be not unlike a burt reynolds-style manly man

7 - a high school intern with full access to everything at a super secure science building

you don't know if gwen just had some keys or whatnot. where did hawkeye and loki get the super-secret eyeball devices from? ya know? is it really a problem?

@iJackSparrow I'm glad you enjoyed TASM but I wouldn't put it in the same category as Iron Man or Batman Begins as best origin movie.BB and IM were brilliant,great movies.

This Spider-man film disappointed me. When I went to see it I couldn't wait for it to end. It was boring in my opinion. But good on it. I hope the squeal is better.

I would Defiently put TASM in IM and BB category becasue all the films give a solid reason as to why the heroes become heroes and flesh out the stories well. Plus the leads in all the films weave some of the best performances in CBMs to date.

Pretty good year for CBMs. All the ones released this summer made at least half a billion bucks apiece.

@Yoss mortars arch back on to the ground, that didn't arch nor did it hit the ground. It exploded in mid air mortars don't explode in mid air. Dropped plot lines are things that you never hear from again, Ratha was a dropped plot line, that's it. The parents were brought up several times becasue Peter encountered Connors becasue he was looking through his fathers brief case and if I'm not mistaken Connors was working on the regeneration antidote with Dr. Parker correct? The killer, well let's see, at first all Peter was doing was looking for his uncle bens killer and after he saved the kid on the bridge he learned he had to stop the lizard from hurting people, thus leading him on this journey to stop Connors and staceys death leads him to learn the value of responsiblity of his actions and what he should use hi powers for. So I would say the only dropped plot line is Ratha, other than that this plot lines were transformed or fed into the main story line.

Regarding Dr. Ratha and alternate takes from The Amazing Spider-Man:

Once Batman Begins was over, there were a lot of inmates that never got caught, and that subplot was literally dropped from the sequels. With that said, I don't call that a plot hole, but a subplot that went unresolved in the trilogy.

What some of you call as "plot holes" in The Amazing Spider-Man, I call it as mystery. Understand this, Peter was never able to find out the "truth" about him in this film. The two scenes that were cut probably would make it too obvious for the sequel, but hints about why Peter Parker didn't die when that spider bite him are still there for those paying attention. Or haven't you seen the scene where Dr. Connors explains to Peter that no other single specimen had survived the cross-species process? If Webb and Sony would want us to think that it's resolved within this movie, that the origin won't be touched in the sequels, they could easily have cutted that scene as well.

These scenes would probably just hint what was the truth, but Lizard would be able to take down Dr. Ratha before he was able to tell anything. The biggest clue is in the mid-credits of the film, when who I believe it's Max Dillon, asks Dr. Curt Connors if did he tell the boy about his father. See, I love Nolan, but his approach relies heavily in exposition. Not all the directors pick that route, and if you watch TASM, you'll see that more than once nuance it's used to indicate things more than the movie explaining itself to the audience: the way May is watching the news, almost looking like she is figuring out that that boy in a spider-costume is her kid; the Wanted picture hanging in Peter's bedroom while Peter is finally able to listen the message that his Uncle left on his cellphone; the speech about responsibility and so on.

I'd argue that The Amazing Spider-Man has a very nuanced approach of storytelling and character development than Batman Begins and even the previous Spider-Man's trilogy. It doesn't give you all the answers, and even when it does or hints them, it forces you to think about them. It was never supposed to answer everything right in the first film, these sequences that some people claim that would "resolve" the "plot holes" would probably just be yet another hints that there's a reason why Peter was the only one able to survive the "cross-species" process. I believe that eventually we'll end up seeing the deleted scenes, but you need to understand that the mystery would never left the film. It's already there, and I believe it was never to go away in the first film to begin with. And there isn't a more right or wrong way to approach storytelling when it comes to films, it's not either exposition resolving all the subplots or nothing. I love that there is a mystery and an ongoing theme going through these films, and I can't wait to see how it will play out. It's just different than what Batman Begins did, and not every film needs exposition to work with. Both The Amazing Spider-Man and Batman Begins are brilliant films for different reasons IMHO.

The truth about his father, based on what the virals has informed us, it's probably that Dr. Richard Parker never tested with any human subjects, not even himself. But he did used his DNA to hide the decaying formula. He never actually tested the formula like Dr. Curt Connors did, but one of those spiders held the secret right where Oscorp wouldn't look: inside Oscorp. The spider with Richard Parker's DNA was probably never meant to be used by either him or anyone else, it was just a test to see if the decaying formula would work.

Somehow and by fate, since Peter Parker gets to Oscorp through a random twist of fate, that spider acknowledged that Peter had the same DNA and bite him. I believe there's more, much more that Richard Parker was involved researching and the true reason that they had to live, which is the Venom suit, but that's probably for another sequel.

I like the film. I am a little disappointed that it won't make as much as any of the other Spider-Man films even though it's the best one. Bring on the sequel!

Really enjoyed this film. Easily the best onscreen version of spidey yet I still say spiderman2 is the film to top but so far so good.=)

My Top CBM Origin films would go this way:

1. The Amazing Spider-Man
2. Batman Begins
3. Iron Man
4. Superman
5. Kick Ass

From 1 to 3 they are all virtually tied in my book.

TASM still has an outside chance of topping Spider-Man 2 at the worldwide box office with China. And even if it doesn't, it's still the most successful reboot box office wise in history, as WolvieCBM put it on his article.

Great movie! Some hiccups along the way, but I still left the theater as a satisfied Spidey fan. Can't wait til the sequel!
