THE AVENGERS Adds $103 Million To Its Gross From Home Media Sale During First Five Days

Yes, we knew that The Avengers was going to do big business on Blu-ray and DVD. Still, the numbers have arrived, and they are big. The home media market is not what it used to be, though that shouldn't be a problem for Joss Whedon & Marvel's superhero team-up of a lifetime. The Avengers was released on September 25th in US, and during its first five days (Sep. 25 - Sep. 30), the film managed to make around $103 million. Of course, the Blu-ray sale played a major part in this. According to The Numbers, it sold 3,389,726 units which equals to $67.6 million. Plus, it sold 2,086,751 DVD units ($35.4 million).

Quite something, huh? And this is just the first week. Have you picked up your copy yet? Anyway, now that The Avengers have finally assembled, Marvel Studios is gearing up for Iron Man 3, followed by Thor: The Dark World.

Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures “Marvel’s The Avengers”--the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, & directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble on May 4, 2012. The film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. In addition to "Marvel's The Avengers," Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including "Iron Man 3" on May 3, 2013; and “Thor 2” on November 8, 2013.

marvel72 - 10/12/2012, 7:56 PM
how is the first half boring?

-loki arrives on earth kills some shield agents

-hawkeye shoots fury.

-loki & hawkeye car chase.

-the destruction of shield base.

-loki shoots helicopter out of sky, fury does a bad ass
roll.

-natasha kicks some russian ass.

-natasha banner scene in india.

-steve rogers punch bag/flashback scene.

-iron man underwater, flying through city then takes of armour in a cool way at stark tower.

-heli-carrier takes off.

-hawkeye takes out some guards loki gets himself an eye.

-loki vs cap, iron man & widow in a quinjet.

-thor lands on quinjet takes loki from the back of it.

-iron man vs thor in the forest, cap breaks it up

-the hulk changes for the first time.

i think thats about the first half covered, give or take a few minutes.

I got mine! :)
Tymminator - 10/12/2012, 7:59 PM
Awesome movie. I'm far more pleased with the MCU than I am of the new Marvel NOW direction.
Danbojohnj - 10/12/2012, 8:02 PM
@Squaremaster lol,I thought it was Transformers 3 all over again. And bugger all happened for the first half hour, then Ironman fixed a big fan for another half hour,Hulk smashed for about 5 minutes took all suspense away when he just punched that big snake /dragon thingy and killed it with one blow.
3/5
Dredd was better.
Maximus101 - 10/12/2012, 8:02 PM
I paid $10 for mine lol I didn't want to waste 25-30 bucks for this movie. I really hope you have not seen this movie 15 times, that's a person with no life indeed.

@sagemode you best hope phase two is good cause all you shit talking won't mean much if it is not good lol

phase one was ok, iron man was amazing and the incredible hulk was awesome, the avengers was decent, captain America was terrible and Thor was meh. That's just me though.
GoILL - 10/12/2012, 8:08 PM
Articles about cbm earningS do nothing but get the same old bullshit started...SMH.

At all the Avenger Haters:

nikgrid - 10/12/2012, 8:19 PM
It was ok, better on the second viewing. Haven't bought the Bu-ray yet.
LFANCH - 10/12/2012, 8:49 PM
If every dollar Avengers made was a hot lady, they would of had to title it LFANCH. for copyright reasons.
GoILL - 10/12/2012, 8:50 PM
@AvengerFan2012

Do you like Titanic and Avatar?
95 - 10/12/2012, 8:51 PM
Bought it on the first day. Seen it twice a day since. On a 16:9 LED panel, it looks absolutely magnificent. The commentary is brilliant stuff. Put your box office gross betting bias aside, it's a super awesome movie.
GoILL - 10/12/2012, 8:57 PM
Just checking. ;)
Ceejay - 10/12/2012, 9:03 PM
This doesn't "add" anything, box office and home video sales are never attributed collectively just like box office and merchandise sales.

That the 3rd biggest grossing film in history world wide is doing great home video sales is hardly news! It would be news if it wasn't!
CMChang28 - 10/12/2012, 9:06 PM
wow some people need to get a life
GoILL - 10/12/2012, 9:07 PM
@AvengerFan2012

Thanks, I wish the standard 2 disc combo pack came with that cover that you have for your avatar. I can't complain since I bought the movie to watch and not for the cover.
TheBigBoss917 - 10/12/2012, 9:11 PM

MAXIMUS101

LMAO. Wheres the shit talkin?..........

If i was to shit talk, i would say.......

MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS:
1. 3rd highest crossing movie of all time.
2. Made the MCU the 4th highest grossing film franchise of all time.
3. Broke 25 box office records.
4. The highest grossing comic book/superhero film ever.
5. Received critical, financial, and commercial success worldwide, mostly noted for unapologetically embracing its comic book tone, dialogue, action, iconic moments, and humor, and appealing to hardcore fans and the general public alike.
6. Give new recognition to some of Marvel's not so much well known characters.
7. Setting a new standard for comic book / superhero movies.
8. Opening up new doors for MCU to expand on.

That would be talkin shit......
rockerdude22 - 10/12/2012, 9:40 PM
Got my copy not too long ago. Love this movie!
AmericanPsychoWolf - 10/12/2012, 9:53 PM
Justice League can beat that 100X bett....Ah who am I kidding? :P
thewonderer - 10/12/2012, 10:06 PM
Why would so many of you reply so harshly to a comment that says "shit movie"

Like seriously, I really didn't think it was shit. I was paying tribute to GRIF, but honestly it's like heresy to even think this movie was simply okay, which is how I truly feel.

SageMode - 10/12/2012, 10:45 PM
SQUAREMASTER

Oh yes the Phantom Menace / Independence Day ending is way more worse than the relentless, highly intelligent, master detective and martial arts master Batman (that Nolan and Bale so flawlessly brought on screen) quitting his fight on crime and drinking latte with a woman he barely knows in Italy. Oh yeah, awesome..............(sarcasm ended)
