I had been browsing around, when I had come across this notable image of the Infinity Gauntlet from Comicon. But then, I noticed something strange...the blue gem in the dead center of the Gauntlet looked strikingly like the one featured in Loki's staff in The Avengers.

But that could have been a coincidence, right? Surely there could be another blue gem lying around?

The thing is, though, the staff, and the gem, were both given to Loki by Thanos, who is closely associated with the gauntlet. Not to mention the Mind Gem, the blue one in the center of the Gauntlet, totes the mind control powers Loki demonstrates in the film.

But what about Thor, you ask? How could Thanos get the Mind Gem if it's locked away in Odin's Vault?

Here comes the part where I noticed it seemed almost every single person missed:

The Mind Gem is missing from the Gauntlet.

The gem on the index finger of the gauntlet looks to be a teal blue-ish color and when illuminated from behind, it almost gives off a white glow...perhaps this is also the case with the large blue one, as well?
TheDARKestKNIGHT - 5/13/2012, 6:11 AM
Good detective work my friend.
csdot - 5/13/2012, 6:32 AM
its not missing its just the way its lit up
BabyGroot - 5/13/2012, 6:51 AM
(minor spoiler)

In the movie, Loki was disarmed and it never did show what happened to the staff so I'm assuming SHIELD has taken it. Then again... it *was* on Stark Tower, so Tony Stark could've taken it himself. So I wonder if the director for Iron Man 3 will touch on that. Could be interesting to see what that leads to since the gauntlet *needs* that gem for it's full power.

(end of spoiler)
jazzman - 5/13/2012, 7:00 AM
it does not look like its missing its more to do with the lighting thats all.
jazzman - 5/13/2012, 7:02 AM
@Intruder

so true. the gem in not even missing on the glove its just the light
Kalel219 - 5/13/2012, 7:08 AM
Why does everyone assume Thanos would tell Loki what it even was?
Asterisk - 5/13/2012, 7:17 AM
If it is really missing and its not just the lighting, it looks like there is a couple missing.
jazzman - 5/13/2012, 7:26 AM
@Asterisk

how a couple are missing. if the other gems are missing you would not see a round orb. look at the thumb lol
jazzman - 5/13/2012, 7:27 AM
its the lighting if u look at the rest of Odin treasures the same white light effect eveything making the object look missing.

Asterisk - 5/13/2012, 7:29 AM
Oh yeah I guess you're right lol
JasonCYates - 5/13/2012, 7:44 AM
It's identical for sure, the question is....How does THANOS have a gem from the INFINITY GAUNTLET to give to LOKI, when all were present in the THOR Easter Egg during DESTROYER's reveal????? I think if he could take that, why not the whole Gauntlet, then again, he may have:S The DESTROYER had been retired by THOR after all.
felixxx - 5/13/2012, 7:59 AM
Good find man. Im going with it missing from the glove. Its obviously a dark enough blue that it wouldnt light up brite white. It would at least be a light blue color. The gem on the pinky finger is a very light blue and even with the light, you can tell its blue not white. All the gems on the gauntlet are showing there color so its really stupid to think the largest and darkest gem on the glove would turn solid white. Not to mention that Loki took control of several peoples minds in the movie. I wouldnt be surprised to find out your exactly dead on here.
Who says that Thanos gave Loki anything? The leader of the Chitari gave a Loki the staff, not Thanos. Not to mention that Thanos may not even know where the Gauntlet is or what it does with all the gems at this point in the cinematic MU.
Wildaniel - 5/13/2012, 8:26 AM
Everyone knows that is the mind control gem, DUUUUUUUUH!
MrDuck - 5/13/2012, 9:16 AM
Yeah I pointed this out a while ago, he controls people's minds with a blue gem you can bet yer ass its the mind gem
MarkJulian - 5/13/2012, 9:19 AM
Confirmation my ass!
Ha1frican - 5/13/2012, 11:10 AM
Didn't we all come to this conclusion last week? That's why Loki could take control off people, and why he let himself be captured leading to the heated of the exchange of the team around the staff...
CorndogBurglar - 5/13/2012, 12:47 PM
The gem isnt missing, its just lit up and looks white, like all the other gems in the gauntlet.
CorndogBurglar - 5/13/2012, 12:51 PM
Also, if it were the mind gem then why would Loki need to touch people with it to take control of their minds? Not to mention, the gem in the staff looks much bigger and is shaped differently than the gem in the gauntlet.
CorndogBurglar - 5/13/2012, 12:56 PM
If you look at the pic of the gauntlet u can tell the gem is a perfect oval. The one in the staff is not shaped the same. And again, why would loki have to touch people with it to take control of their minds? Thats certainly not how the mind gem works.
venom2019 - 5/13/2012, 12:57 PM
No the gem is missing if you look at the first pic the hole were the gem is being held has 3 rings but the second pic from odin's vault room it has only 2 rings with the 3rd missing because that one held the gem in place.
I think that why big t was helping Loki to get his glove back.
80sFace - 5/13/2012, 1:42 PM
So the plot of The Avengers 2...

SHIELD has Loki's staff, which has the blue gem.

Thanos comes to Earth, kicks the Avengers' ass, steals the gem, and leaves.

The Avengers have to get it back.

The first half of the film takes place on Earth, the second half somewhere out in space.
Luminus - 5/13/2012, 3:15 PM
It's pretty clear in the comics that no one, NO ONE, is allowed to have the Infinity Gauntlet, because it is too powerful. That's the whole purpose of the Infinity Watch. So Odin can't possibly have the gauntlet. Conclusion: it IS missing 4 gems.
MrDuck - 5/13/2012, 4:28 PM
Only problem with the theory of Thanos useing the cube to teleport into the vault is that the cube is in the vault too Rtard
DoomXfactor - 5/13/2012, 9:20 PM
I like how they called the Cosmic Cube the Tesseract. Tesseract...Tesseract...Tesseract... Tesseract...rolls off the tongue quite nicely
DoomXfactor - 5/13/2012, 9:21 PM
@Intruder- I agree
maito - 5/14/2012, 8:13 AM
I noticed that too yesterday when I went to the movies (again)

I never thought Loki's plan was conquer the earth. He's plans are always getting bigger and bigger.

maybe the whole Thor movie was just Loki's way to meet Thanos. maybe Avengers movie was just him trying to complete the Gautlet.
maybe Avengers2 would be Thanos using him to obtain the complete Gautlet.
DudeGuyMan - 5/14/2012, 8:30 AM
Old news. Knew this for months.
Dedpool - 5/14/2012, 12:57 PM
It being the mind Gem would make sense with how he was using it to control Selvig and Barton.
DeadWebHead - 5/14/2012, 1:08 PM
This is ridiculous. It's not the Mind Gem. The Gem centered in the Scepter is rough jagged. Meanwhile the soul gem in the gauntlet is obviously smooth and polished
CoughCough - 5/14/2012, 5:16 PM
Also, the dagger that stabbed Thor by Loki was also on Stark tower when Thor pull it out with his blood stain on it and throw on the ground. Foreshadow for Civil War when Stark Clone Thor??? And I don't know if they did this on purpose but when Coulson put his eyes to the scanner to be scanned to stop Loki on the helicarrier the red like made him look exactly like the Vision..... Are these just minor detail or I'm overly hyped?
CoughCough - 5/14/2012, 5:16 PM
red light*
aztecRaingod - 5/14/2012, 5:58 PM
The Gem inside the staff is alot bigger than the one in the gauntlet.

Besides, they clearly stated in the movie that the staff was powered by the tesseract.
aztecRaingod - 5/14/2012, 6:02 PM
Eh, after reading this, I think you may be on to something...

Looks like somebody postulated this theory a long time ago, on this very web site.
fwg22392 - 5/14/2012, 11:49 PM
no way. no [frick]ing way. end of story.

they need to hold off on Loki too, after Thor 2 he needs to just go away. put him in Hell for a film or two.

laughterman26 - 5/15/2012, 2:33 AM
gunsmith already noticed this, and if it was blue it would be a tinge blue like the other blue stone and not white so hes right.
foxfan - 5/17/2012, 9:07 AM
I don't know, if the Gem is missing, then what's glowing? As in, if it were missing, there would be gaping hole, not a glowing object.

That still doesn't mean Loki's doesn't have one of the gems, I just think this bit of logic is unconvincing. The gem is present and glowing in that pic.
felixxx - 5/18/2012, 10:14 AM
@foxfan

Theres a lit up globe like lamp that the glove sits on. Picture a frosted soft ball The stem and globe all glow or light up bright white. A large dark blue gem is not going to light up bright untainted white. It would at the very least be a light blue. Look at the gem on the pinky finger, its an even lighter blue than the one in question and you can obviously see its got a blueish tint, not a bright white. The gem is missing.
Ace101 - 5/19/2012, 4:21 AM
Sorry but i dont think it is the blue mind gem from gauntlet. And i am surprised that ppl here will go with the pic above instead of actually looking at the movie and see clearly that the blue gem is right there. ok lets look at ur theory of the blue gem on the staff being the mind gem, when he took the mind gem, why would he just leave the gauntlet, instead of taking it and achieving his plans to destroy thor, the W3, Sif and jotunheim all at once..my guess is he doesnt know [frick] all about the gauntlet and the gems, Odin probably told the kids [frick] off and to mind their own [frick]ing business lol. See how it just doesnt work, no logic there. Im going with it was a source of energy that was similar or had similar orgins to the cosmic cube therefore allowing the wielder to will others to do his bidding (a similar power to the cosmic cube is it not, a small fraction of the power though).
Go to 30sec, observe, and break free of lokis control
Ace101 - 5/19/2012, 4:28 AM
Its pissing me off...WTF is the thing opposite the infinity gauntlet in the vault? >.<
