Seeing Thor 2 helps one understand the direction in which I would take the MCU.

There are some obvious returns in the cast...
As well as...
Sharon Carter
Amanda Righetti
Age:29
CPT America
Character bio:
Inspired by her aunt's adventures, Sharon joined the international security agency S.H.I.E.L.D., and was assigned the code name "Agent 13". By this time, Rogers had been revived from suspended animation, and during one of Sharon's earliest missions, she teams up with Cap, who is enamored by her familiar beauty but does not make the connection.
Why Righetti:
If many people are confident that she, as an unnamed agent was, in fact, Carter, I was not. Was she Danvers? Was Sharon going to be played by Atwell, who has a multiple picture deal? I looked at her several times ;) and figured she had something similar to Atwell and could very well be Sharon. That makes sense they would bring her to Cap so as to ease him a little. I guessed she was carter and figured bringing Atwell back through flashbacks and, later, as an elderly woman ala Ultimates was the route they may take. I tried to make this as plausible as possible.

Here's some useful bullet points
As of the end of Avengers, the group has gone their separate ways with an understanding that they will come together once again if needed. Cap, however, with nowhere to go, no home, no life, just kind of lingers around SHIELD.
Fury calls on Cap as SHIELD has received word that HYDRA is attempting to unearth the truth behind the lost city of Atlantis for it's advanced tech. Naturally, Cap, with his personal disposition for the terrorists, and pretty much nothing else to do, is game to take them down. Although, he is shocked that he is just now being told that the organization still exists.
Fury tells him he won't be alone and Cap asks if Agents Barton and Rominoff will be assisting him. Fury says they are assigned elsewhere.
Agent Danvers, Agent Wilson and Agent 13 are tasked to battle HYDRA alongside Cap. He's told that Baron Strucker leads HYDRA.
Throughout the movie, as he prepares for war with HYDRA, Cap remembers final weeks before the crash, the missions in which he battled AIM, the offshoot of HYDRA. Although Dr. Zola was by Red Skull's side as his greatest scientist, secretly, Zola had AIM, led by another scientist. Zola used AIM and the fortunes of Red Skull to advance his ambitious goals.
These bits are shown throughout.
These goals, unlike Skull's hunt for ancient relics, were the scientific and genetic acceleration of humans.
AIM's lead scientist, Baron Zemo, a coward, wore a faded red hood, in honor of Red Skull, whom he believed was running AIM, to hide his identity from Hitler's NAZI's.
In these flashbacks, we see a huge golden headpiece. an Easter egg sporting the remnants of a possible MODOK.
He stays in contact with Peggy Carter throughout the flashbacks.
In the past Cap is able to defeat Armadillo, 1 of Zemo's mad creations single handedly. However, Primus, another experiment, an android, gives him a fight he barely survives.
The fight bled into Zemo's lab, causing Zemo to panic. Cap hurls the bot into the side of a giant vat of bubbling, steaming glue, mildly cracking the vat. Zemo, infuriated, starts shooting a laser at Cap which causes Cap's attention towards the mad doctor.
He gets a few hits when Zemo begs for him to stop, sighting knowledge of his fallen friend. "He's not dead you know, HYDRA tortured him, but he wouldn't let go. He'll become more than either 1 of us. A killer. A soldier. A machine. Hail HYDRA!"
Blasted by Primus again, he sets his attention back on the powerhouse. He then plays cat and mouse with the 2 before making his way high above the vat, releasing the harness of the adhesive and sending spilling down over the 2. "My face. Noooo, ahhhh."
Primus, from within the goo, comes flying at Cap, distracted over Bucky, the droid gets the better of him, knocking him out cold. When he wakes, the Android is dismantled and he sees the legs and feet, with wings, of a man diving into the surrounding water and disappearing for good. Cap brings down AIM
WWII Cast:
Baron Zemo
Sebastian Roché
41
Supernatural
Bio:
Zemo, a scientist working deep undercover, unknowingly for Dr. Zola as opposed to the Red Skull, whom he thought was his leader, devising scientific breakthroughs to help advance HYDRA, or Zola's own wealth and power, by whatever means necessary under the branch known as AIM.
I wanted Zemo in the cast as he is Cap's #2 arch nemesis, behind only Red Skull.
Why Roche:
As an angel in Supernatural he grew on me. He was very much the snake and coward, or had the potential to be so, that Zemo is. Guy Pearce was my first choice because he is fantastic however, he is signed on to star in Iron Man 3.
Armadillo
Andy Serkis
Planet of the Apes
Bio:
A genetic creation of Zemo, created to devastate those that do not hail HYDRA. His back story is incomplete and it is not known what he truly is. He can speak, but he is pure unadulterated anger, Think of him as a predecessor to Hulk, but way less formidable.
Armadillo is here to bring about the more scifi world of Cap. It wasn't all solders; there were some freaky mutant battles there too.
Why:
Excuse me for typecasting the poor guy, but he will always be 1 of my #1 choices for a hulking, ape-like beast.
Primus
CGI no speaking
It is what it is.
The presence of Primus serves a greater purpose to be revealed later.
Present day...
In the present, Cap, Wilson, Danvers and 13 near the HYDRA base. 13 confesses she is Sharon Carter, the great niece of Peggy Carter.
Wilson reports how many HYDRA troops surround the area. When asked how he knew this by Cap, he says he has a birds eye view.
Carter tells Cap about the Winter Soldier and that he is rumored to be an unaging WWII American vet.
Once there, the group finds that HYDRA has gathered alien tech, referred to as Kree, they believe will help them locate Atlantis. Atlantis, as it turns out, according to research the quartet find, is possibly, if it exists, a station for another ancient breed of aliens that chose to nest deep within the Earth's oceans.
Cap battles the Winter Soldier, Bucky, in an extremely badass and emotional 2 scenes. Carter, saving Cap's life, shoots Winter down.
Strucker, alluding to a LONG history with Director Fury, fights Wilson. Cap's shield, out of nowhere, cracks the head of Strucker and Wilson is saved.
When they search for Danvers, they find she is trapped in a room filled with the Kree machines. The machines turn on and she's blasted from all angles.
They finally breakdown the steel doors and save her after the equipment shuts down. They get her back on the plane and Cap looks back at Bucky who is missing instead of laying there dead. He questions leaving when there's still more to be done. Carter respond "I've got that covered." The base explodes as they fly back to SHIELD.
At SHIELD, Wilson thanks Cap and the 2 bond. Carter reports to Hill with news of Kree alien tech but no sign of Atlantis.
Carter, hesitant, askd Cap is he would like to visit her Aunt but his stunned look and absent answer is disrupted when...
Fury watches a comatose Danvers sorrowfully. Without warning, she flips out and starts screaming in pain. Fury calls for a red alert.
Post Credits:
Hawkeye and Black Widow meet with the King of Wakanda, the Black Panther and ready themselves to discuss a trade for more Vibranium. Hawkeye whispers to Black Widow "Hopefully this goes smoother than the last time we were here."
Present Day Cast:
Baron Von Strucker is Viggo Mortensen
53
Eastern Promises
Bio:
Not much is known about the history of the bald Baron, save that he has a LONG history with Fury and leads HYDRA.
Why:
Mortensen is a high in demand actor with loads of cred from anyone, fan of the genre or otherwise. A bald Viggo would be chilling.
Strucker is HYDRA. There is no HYDRA without Wolfgang. that, and Fury needs a nemesis as well.
Carol Danvers is Yvonne Strahovski
29
Chuck
Bio:
A strong and loyal agent of SHIELD, Danvers is 1 of Fury's go-to agents. It is evident where her jouney goes from here and she will play a much larger role in the grand scheme of things.
It's only logical she be included in the Avengers as her name is Marvel and, with the intergalactic direction Avengers is going, her character is vital.
Why:
Yvonne is a popular choice around here, although I can't recall her being 1 for Ms. Marvel, not to say she isn't but it's just slipping my mind if she is. Most may feel Marvel should be a more imposing woman and, for that reason, I was feeling that maybe Amanda was going to be Danvers rather than Sharon Carter. I thought not in the end and figured Yvonne would make for an excellent Danvers whom regular viewers wouldn't expect to become something greater.
Falcon is Jamie Foxx
44
Jarhead
Bio:
Wilson, not the scientist of the Ultimate, but a gritty agent instead. There's a bit of a mystery to his character when he mentions his bird's eye view that may leave people clamoring to learn more. His friendship with Cap, which starts here is very important to Cap feeling like he may have a place in this era after all. He may be more than Hill, Widow and the bunch as far as what powers he possesses, yet not as much as the super beings of the group. He leaves the audience wondering how many secrets does Fury really have. Enclave, Kree, Atlantis, Wakanda, and possible super agents in Wilson and who knows who else.
Why:
An Academy Award winner, a tough as nails actor who time and time again proves he is 1 of the best all around performers, Foxx is exactly what Captain America 2 needs.
BP is Chiwetel Ejiofor
34
4 Brothers
Bio:
All we know is that he, the King of Wakanda, dresses in Black Panther garb and controls something called Vibranium. Fans know there is so much more. Also, Widow and Hawk reference Wakanda as an earlier, more turbulent, mission.
Why:
A very popular choice for loads of reasons. After seeing 4 Brothers I loved how he went from badass to scarredass in the blink of an eye and knew, from that point, he was an amazing actor.
Next:
A2, Black Panther, Nova
