MCU SPECULATION

A few little scrapes have info have led me to this theory... what do you think?

Ok guys this shouldn't take too long, its just an idea I've had after reading something online.

In the CBR Report of the set visit, they mention:
'Thor, vanquished to Earth on a journey of self-discovery where he encounters Natalie Portman's Jane Foster, his first contact with the modern human race.'

Is this just me reaching, or does the word 'modern' hint that Thor's been to Earth before? I may be reaching here, but maybe this is a hint that Thor's been to a slightly older Earth, perhaps in wartime? The time of a certain super soldier?

From there, I did a little more thinking. Just follow my train of thought on this, but Caps shield in comic mythos is made up of Adamantium or Vibranium, yeah?

Adamantium can't be used because sadly, Fox has the rights to X-Men.
Vibranium comes from Wakanda, so that means if the shield was made in WW2 then Black Panther must be old... but then if they intend to make a BP movie then that mean it'd have to be set in WW2 in order to follow MCU continuity.

BUT, and this is a damn big but if you dont like things changing between comics and movies, Thors hammer looks pretty metallic in the Poster/teaser. Now a few users have already spotted this, it may just be the effects or maybe they've changed the hammer to metal.

Why does this matter? My theory is this:
Odin and a younger Thor come to Earth in WW2, meets with Cap and as a gift from Asgard to Earth, give Howard Stark some of the metal. Howard then uses this to create Caps shield. The gift is as part of a peace deal between Asgard and the new SHIELD Organisation.

This then ties into the Thor scene where Coulson is interrogating Thor: SHIELD fears Asgard is breaking the peace agreement and steps in. By the end of the movie Thor and SHIELD are cool and thus agrees to help them amongst the threat Earth faces in The Avengers.

This also means that Thor couldn't damage Caps shield, giving greater strength as the leader of the team.

I know it's a bit of a stretch, but it is a possibility right? What do you think?

1. i am guessing you dont know much about black panther, the title of black panther gets passed down from father to son each generation so BP would NOT be set in WWII in order for it to fit the MCU, his grandfather could be the one who gives vibranium to howard stark, not a bad idea though but thor is already connected with the captain america movie with the cosmic cube being present

@ Ibz, thanks man youre right, im not really up on my BP lore. I was just looking at ways to solve Caps shield alloy problem with thor... I forgot about the cosmic cube lol.

PLUS I just read on anothe one of the set reports that there was a person frozen in a block of ice at Heimdalls Observatory. Cap?

I agree with AllPurposeNaji... it's already been hinted by a video blog a few posts down in regards to any Asgardian visits in Earth's past would be a direct link to Norse mythology.... ergo, Vikings, and lots of them. While Thor may have visited Earth in WW2, or maybe he simply viewed the events through Heimdal's observatory - I would call him being in WW2 a real stretch, though the supposed Cap sighting in Heimdal's place could only be found during a look-see from the observatory.... or maybe it could be a Frost Giant frozen in an enchanted block of ice, who knows?

First, Thor's hammer has always been metal, as Kingofthanerdiverse points out it's called Uru. Cap's shield is also as King points out. However I'd like to add on the vibranium info. There are 2 kinds of it on Earth in Marvel, the Wakandan Vibranium and the Anti-Metal of the Savage Land. Adamantium is a Vibranium-Steel alloy that was accidentally created attempting to recreate Cap's original Shield.

The Black Panther is a generational rite passed down by wakandan royalty. T'Challa's father was the Black Panther before him, and his father before him, and so on. Any Wakandan dealings in Cap's generation could easily be under T'Chaka as well as serve for a good device for a future Black Panther movie, as this dealing and attention brought to them over this precious metal leads to T'Chaka's death at the hands of Klaw and T'Challa taking up the mantle.

Something else to consider about Thor appearing during WWII... there was actually a recent story about the Invaders that focused on the Red Skull somehow swindling a younger, naive Thor into working for the Axis.

I think it would be cool if they could somehow work this into the Cap movie, and have it make Cap feel uneasy when he has to be on Thor's team in the Avengers movie.

Good thoughts, Ashdm, but I think you're stretching a bit here.

That's a lot of stretching. Be aware that Black Panther originally appeared in the Fantastic Four. That means Fox may have the rights to him for live action movies. If anything, they may have left the doors open to prequels in case all of this goes the way of the X-Men. Hopefully that is not the case.
