Dan Aykroyd Confirms Bill Murray Won't Do GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Dan Aykroyd Confirms Bill Murray Won't Do GHOSTBUSTERS 3

Sad news for us Ghostbusters fans as Dan Aykroyd has confirmed that the original Peter Venkman will never be seen in the Ecto-1 again.

While chatting with the Telegraph the SNL alum revealed the sad, but expected news that the great Bill Murray would not be participating in Ghostbusters 3. Yes, it is something we all knew in the deep recesses of our hearts, but it's never fun having the nail go through the coffin, killing our fleeting hopes.

When the actor was asked if he ever thought the film would be made he had a fairly sober response.

"At this point it's in suspended animation. The studio, the director Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis feel there must be a way to do it, but Bill Murray will not do the movie."

And if it were to be made, many would have a hard time watching a Ghostbusters film without the main attraction, Bill Murray. On that front Aykroyd was even less enthusiastic and puts an end to that speculation forever.

"He doesn't want to be involved. He's got six kids, houses all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He's into this life and living it. I know we'd have a lot of fun [but] I can't be mad at him. He's a friend first, a colleague second. We have a deep personal relationship that transcends business and he doesn't want to know."

Another rumor that Aykroyd addresses in the interview is if he will recast Murray's role as Peter Venkman, or as the interviewer suggests, use a CGI version of Bill as a spirit.

"We're not going to do a movie that exploits the franchise. The script has to be perfect. I'm the cheerleader, but I'm only one voice in the matter. It's a surety that Bill Murray will not do the movie, however there is still interest from the studio."

Well that is not the news that I wanted to hear, but let's look on the positive side, we'll at least have Rick Moranis to look forward ... perhaps.

I'd probably see it anyways, out of my lifelong desperation to see another film.

But it really wouldn't be the same without Bill.

How about nobody will do Ghostbusters three. Actually I wouldn't mind seeing Team Apatow of Team Smith tackling it. The franchise seems right up there ally. Although, if they did, it would probably need to be rated R, and I doubt any studio would go for that.

Funny that he'll do a movie like City of Ember, but not this...
Kill him off..
Venkman died of cancer from hanging out to close to the containment grid.

Murray is still a dick. Garfield was ok by him to do... but GB3... oh no... that's under him. Poor guy, he's got houses all over America and is always golfing... what a schedule. So much work to speak a few lines and run around a little in a costume making jokes.

I don't think Murray wants to ruin the franchise a la Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I don't fault him at all. Somethings are meant to be left in the time capsule, and not everything needs a sequel. I would love a reboot and have the main characters play minor roles (if that).

Plus lets be real guys. Ghostbusters 2 wasn't exactly an awesome movie. I loved it when I was 5, but looking back, the original is far superior. Everyone's creative talent has a shelf life, and I think the team behind the first Ghostbusters has expired. Nothing they have done since has really knocked my socks off. Ramis last good movie was Groundhog Day, and Akroyd, well, we don't need to go there.

I'm a huge Ghostbusters fan and all but I think they should just scrape this idea, because I definitely couldn't see a third film working this day and age, and Ghostbusters isn't Ghostbusters without Bill Murray.

You know what, Ghostbusters is my all time favorite movie. I just know the way things roll these days, they would rape the ever living shit out of it and put dickheads like Seth Rogan and the guy that used to be fat in it. Leave it alone.

@MoonKinght

True, I just don't think the talent is there with Raimis and Akryod. They are well past their prime, and don't have their finger on the pulse of what is funny anymore. I think fresh writers, who respect the source material, would be the best route to go. It worked for Star Trek, X-Men and Batman. It's time for these guys to hang up this idea, and make a killing off the rights.

Ghostbusters done right could be huge, but not with Raimis and Akroyd writing it.

Can't they just reboot this movie? Maybe have the original Ghostbusters training new guys.
