One of Gotham's most feared crime bosses, Sal Maroni, head of the Maroni crime family, has joined the roster of Fox's Batman prequel Gotham, being played by David Zayas! The actor has previously appeared in The Expendables and Dexter and will now play Maroni in the show's first season later this year.
In the comics Maroni was bitter rivals with Carmine Falcone (played by Tom Wilkinson in Batman Begins) and has been repremanded often by the Dark Knight. He was also responsible for the accident that lead to Gotham DA Harvey Dent becoming the villain Two Face, a story arc that Fox's showrunners may pursue.
What do you think of the casting choice, is Zayas a good fit for Maroni? What sort of role would you like to see the crime boss have in the show, should he play a part in the origin of Two Face? Sign off your thoughts below!

"Gotham" is an origin story of the great DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), "Gotham" follows one cop's rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

Isn't Maroni Italian??? It's great casting though. Good actor
BigMikeReviews - 8/1/2014, 11:01 AM
so is everyone meant to be 80 years old when Bruce finally becomes Batman? There won't be much physical opposition.
yossarian - 8/1/2014, 11:06 AM
Puerto Rican is the new Italian.
Bread - 8/1/2014, 11:07 AM
They're going to adapt The Long Halloween. I'm calling it right now.
IUsedToBeThecase - 8/1/2014, 11:08 AM
Why, why, WHYYYYYYYY.

A fanabla! Fongoul!

@BigMikeReviews - exactly. This show already reeks to high heaven.

If I watch this steaming stool of a TV show at all it'll be in the same way I watch animals mauling people on YouTube. It's nasty, sometimes unintentionally amusing but ultimately I switch off because its just awful.
DrKinsolving - 8/1/2014, 11:13 AM
@Bread

How are they gonna adapt Long Halloween without Batman? I'm still not sold on this "Gotham with all Batman's villains but No Batman" idea

They may have substantial time lapses in between seasons to age Bruce more rapidly, producers will want to ensure maximum ratings by bringing in the one factor that people will want to watch the show for: Batman.
Knightfall225 - 8/1/2014, 11:20 AM
Great casting. He was one of the best characters in Dexter.
DrunkenNukem - 8/1/2014, 11:21 AM
Its stupid anyway....at least Smallville had Clark Kent as the lead character

WTF.. Batista??
DrKinsolving - 8/1/2014, 11:52 AM
@Gusto

Lemons - 8/1/2014, 11:52 AM
LOL Batista. Good actor, but isn't Sal Maroni an Italian mob boss? Perhaps they can change his name to Sal Barron so he's Puerto Rican.
FantasticSpidey - 8/1/2014, 11:53 AM
based on his performances, while I like him as Batista, I hated him in Expungables.

although this show seems to be adding to the questionable casting with every announcement anyway, sooooo...
Bread - 8/1/2014, 11:58 AM
@DrKinsolving Well, The Long Halloween is already a story that involves a lot of Gordon/Gotham PD, they could focus more on that aspect and have Gordon fulfill the role of Batman. They already confirmed that Harvey Dent will be introduced at some point and he will be Gordon's age. Now the Maroni's are involved. They're most likely going to introduce the Falcone's.

I'm not saying it's going to be good, but I think they're going to do it.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 8/1/2014, 11:58 AM
And the list of characters that actually make sense reaches, what, four? Five?
grif - 8/1/2014, 11:59 AM
stallone will be after his ass.
GeekyCheekyChic - 8/1/2014, 12:03 PM
Is any criminal besides Catwoman going to be relatively close to Batman's age or is the future - Batman vs the AARP?
ComicsBornAndBred - 8/1/2014, 12:04 PM
Maroni usually like middle aged when Batman exists in his early years....so is he gonna be like 70 now when Bruce becomes the Bat??? This show is starting to scare me. I wanna have hope but whn you have Arrow actually giving you the GA in costume and Flash giving you Flash in a costume...how an I supposed to watch Gotham, Batanans city and show without Batman? I know the show is meant to be without him but it's hard to accept when shows like Arrow and Flash have their heroes already established
Ranger14 - 8/1/2014, 12:07 PM
"They may have substantial time lapses in between seasons to age Bruce more rapidly, producers will want to ensure maximum ratings by bringing in the one factor that people will want to watch the show for: Batman."

The challenge being that Batman is never going to be part of this show, based on what they have said. So, we are back to a show chock full of villains and Gordon has to handle them all and we all know where that ends. Somewhere we will never see with this show.
