Matthew Modine is no stranger to the comic book movie scene, playing a minor role in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises (infamously using the Avengers to promote Batman) and now he wants to take center stage! I a recent tweet the Full Metal Jacket star expressed his want to play Marvel's most famous mystic, check it out:

The actor is the first (possibly of many) being up for the role since this week's announcement that Marvel is pushing ahead with Dr. Strange. What do you think? Would he make a good big screen magician? Sign off your thoughts below!

He looks too old. Too many wrinkles.
superotherside - 2/22/2014, 9:43 PM
Nope. He's an ok actor but he's not someone Marvel should choose. Sorry.
SpoonWielder - 2/22/2014, 9:44 PM

TheManFromMars - 2/22/2014, 9:46 PM

kevberg - 2/22/2014, 9:47 PM

Kurne - 2/22/2014, 9:47 PM

TheManFromMars - 2/22/2014, 9:53 PM
How do you pronounce his last name? Is it "Mo-Die-En" or "Moh-Deen"?
TheGambitFreak - 2/22/2014, 9:53 PM

Modine: “And if we’re talking actor – mano a mano – sorry downey – bale destroys you in less than one round.”

Modine: “me too-not interested in avengers. #batman ala Nolan is dark and human. relatable. avengers is cartoon fantasy-nice kid flick”

Modine: #DKR’s has annie hathaway. her get-up, piping-hot @ she’s got high kicks and a bad ass motorbike. what’s scarlett got?”

Modine: “it would take 6 #Marvel characters to beat one #DC character”

Modine: “batman would tear off ironman’s head and s**t down his neck. well, actually B. Wayne wouldn’t, because he’s got real class.”
TheManFromMars - 2/22/2014, 9:54 PM

Difference is: RDJ is not asking DC for a role now.

Get this bastard the eff outta here down talking Marvel but now that he's out of a job guess whose door he comes knocking on...GTFO modine!
Humperdink - 2/22/2014, 9:58 PM

He's kind of right about the Avengers/Batman, though.

I loved the Avengers because it was a 'cartoon fantasy-nice kid flick'.
Come on, let's not pretend it was high art, or even 'deep'.
It's Marvel/Disney. They infuse comedy into all of their films these days.
Some of them look like straight up comedies.

Batman was dark. Avengers wasn't. He's not wrong.

The rest of what he said sounds like he was joking around.
Who in their right mind would take any of that seriously?

Modine is a VERY cool guy.
He's actually very down to earth, and not merely pretending to be.
Most celebrities do that for show. Modine is an awesome guy.

It's part of the reason why I don't see him as Strange.
Modine isn't dark, brooding, or moody.
He doesn't even project any of that in my mind.
It would be hard for me to see him as Doc Strange because he always comes across as the 'nice guy'.

It's nice that he wants to play Strange though.
I don't blame him for wanting to do that.
Destro749 - 2/22/2014, 10:02 PM
He doesn't have any star quality...maybe if we go back 20 years, he'd be a relevant actor.
MagicalGoat - 2/22/2014, 10:03 PM
Why not Cumberbatch!?

- every fanboy ever

Ha ha Modine you I can really relate to a guy in a Bat suit that talks with a rediculous voice, is a millionaire and is chasing a clown around a fictional city.

More apologies for making comic book movies...they are fantasy dickhead and Batman is no's not real and never should be.
KindredMac - 2/22/2014, 10:05 PM

That's my short list for Strange.
AlexanderLykins - 2/22/2014, 10:05 PM
He's not right for the character, end of story.
KidGoku - 2/22/2014, 10:07 PM

TMcFarlaneFan - 2/22/2014, 10:07 PM
So he wants to be a Marvel superhero, eh?? Big question: Can he do comedy??

Bloom as in Orlando Bloom?

I like that idea

He never said anything about Batman being darker than Avengers. He was tearing down the integrity of THE most successful CBM of all time which was loved by more adults than kids...look at the audience studies for Marvel films what ages attend the films. Btw the comedy added to Marvel films seems to only be a problem with people on this site who think everything should be dark, glum, uninspired and serious.
