ecksmanfan reviews Zombieland
Is it the next Shaun of the Dead?

Usually when you see ads for movies like this, immediately your expectations are low, at best. It’s a possibility that this made me like this film more, but this movie was surprisingly funny and entertaining.
The script was very well written and acted. This could be one of Woody’s better roles. His timing was perfect and it seemed that this role was written just for him. Jesse Eisenberg has a very similar look and sound as Michael Cera (“Superbad”) but not quite as over the top. The two female leads were ok, nothing outstanding. The other stand out would be Bill Murray. I didn’t expect to see him in the film and it was a great surprise. His few moments in the film are hilarious and he’s not afraid to make fun of himself.
The film is a Zombie flick in every way possible, but adds a hilarious touch to it; like the Zombie Kill of the Week and Tallahassee’s undying quest to find a Twinkie. There is quite a bit of gore and a bit of semi-nudity (zombie stripper anyone?). I would almost say this was as good as “Shaun of the Dead” but doesn’t quite get there. It is a fun and entertaining film that throws in a bit of suspense to mix it up. Go check this one out for a good laugh.
