The Swedish directing duo of Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein have signed on to direct the fourth film in the
Underworld franchise for Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainmrnt.
Kate Beckinsale, who was missing from the third film, is set to return as the ass kicking vampire Selene. Her husband, Len Wiseman will be producing, along with Lakeshore's Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi. Production is set to begin in March of 2011, with a script written by John Hlavin, which went under revisions by comic writer and
The Changling scribe J. Michael Straczynski.
"Marlind and Stein recently made their English-language debut with U.K. thriller Shelter, a supernatural thriller starring Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys Meyers that NALA Films produced. The movie has yet to be released Stateside."
Sweden seems to be the new go-to place for talent and films. Movies like
Let the Right One In and
The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo being the latest films to get English remakes and several of their directors and actors like Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist being cast in american films.
I see two things worth discussing here. The first being whether or not we need another
Underworld movie. The first film was decent, but they seemed to go stagnant after that. The films are watchable, but far from being the quality the should be. The second item of discussion: At least we get to see Kate Beckinsale in skin tight latex pleather.
