Those of us who are products of the 1980's will remember a gem of a film called Killer Klowns from Outer Space, which featured a troop of large, misshapen, creepy clowns who came from outer space to use humans as a food source. Taking cues from early B-Movies, the camp is quite prevalent and the circus theme is carried all throughout the film, from the popcorn bombs and silly string guns, to the cotton candy cocoons they story their human feasts in. Needless to say,Killer Klowns is cheesy horror at its best.

Here's the good news, it seems that a "requel" is headed to theaters sometime in 2012. Firstshowing, via Facebook, has learned that the Chiodo Brothers, who wrote, directed and did the puppeteer work for the original 1988 film have been working on a new film for the series and the production is well under way. The film, likely to be titled Return of the Killer Klowns from Outer Space (tacky, but fitting) will likely be filmed in 3D.

Apparently, the duo have been trying to get the ball rolling on the project for some time, but weren't able to pull the trigger until distribution was picked up, and from the sounds of things, that has happened. While an actual release date has yet to be set, they are hoping to get the film released sometime in 2012. Grant Cramer, who played Mike Tobacco in the original film, will be returning to the role, acting as a mentor to two new leads who must fend off the Klowns to save the planet.

I don't know about you, but I love the idea of this. The original film is super campy, but highly entertaining. The puppeteer work was way cool and added a certain level of creepiness to the Klowns and I look forward to seeing what the Chiodo Brothers have in store for a newer film.

Such fond memories of seeing this movie as a kid. It did for toilets what Jaws did for the ocean. Can't wait to see how they plan to improve upon perfection.

As long we get to see a decapitation via uppercut from a midget clown again, I'll be golden.

Hey as long as they're still sucking blood out of cocoons with crazy straws, I'm down..

This is sacrilege! Absolute sacrilege I tell you!

This movie was my Twilight: New Moon! What's next? Ron Jermy gets casted to play Jesus? Anyway, all I hope for is that these Killa Klowns can throw up a few nose kock blocks.

I always loved this movie. B horror movies take me back to the glorious 80s and early 90s.

I loved this movie so much. I'd happily watch the "requel", especially knowing that the Chiodo brothers are aboard for it.

Nice!!! I've been waiting for this. I also want Critters and Gremlins. Horror comedy movies are the best in 3D.

The original is great campy fun- the very definition of a good "beer movie" (a movie you watch with friends and a few beers in you). If the original creators want to do another one, I'm all for it.

longbowhunter - 12/27/2011, 7:47 AM
The Chiodo Brothers really made something special with the original. Plus getting the Dickies to do the theme song! Its gonna be hard to match.

It makes more money than the Dark Knight Rises calling it now.

Krazy
wheezyjefferson - 12/27/2011, 8:54 AM
The original was the Citizen Kane of celestial jester horror films. I hope they don't screw this up.
Bandrews1 - 12/27/2011, 9:30 AM
I use to love watching this movie as a kid, even though it was cheesy it was still a fun little flick, but I don't think a sequel really necessary, especially after all these years. But at least its not a remake.
HULK2099 - 12/27/2011, 9:41 AM
LMAO that movie was something else
Mentok - 12/27/2011, 9:46 AM
Sweet! One of my favorite movies growing up. If the Chiodo brothers are in, then I trust the movie will deliver. Can't wait for the Klown shenanigans to begin. Hope the sequel features the original musical theme performed by "The Dickies".
johan02 - 12/27/2011, 10:41 AM
ok, I am goingto tell you all the ONLY reason to not count this with all the rehashed crap out today: the Chiodo brothers arent just "on board" its THEIR baby. The Chiodos have been trying to get thi m q&a de for like 12 years now. This is no "requeal" its a pure sequeal, from the creaters of the original. And it WILL kick ass
johan02 - 12/27/2011, 10:43 AM
*made lol sorry
TheHitchhikingGhost - 12/27/2011, 11:43 AM
If the Chiodos are on it, no one can call foul. Those guys are awesome and this is their baby, so if they want to make another one then I welcome it with open arms. If it's shit after the fact then fire away. Dear Chiodos: MORE CRITTERS TOO.
canadianturd - 12/27/2011, 12:55 PM
Awesome! I'll be looking forward to this.
tripttwe - 12/27/2011, 4:05 PM
I ONLY came here to throw the thumb up!!!! ... And let everyone know I did it!!!
odie00 - 12/27/2011, 6:51 PM
Haha loved the original. But how is it a "requel"? Wouldn't it just be considered a sequel because it has the original people involved and its even gonna have the original lead guy in it. AND its called RETURN of the Killer Clowns from Outer Space. Never got the whole requel thing, like whats that classify as? Anyways it would be awesome to get another one, as long as they keep everything true that was about the first one.
BlindLemonShemp - 12/27/2011, 7:28 PM
damn! i grew up watching this movie!

part of me just died... but a different part just woke back up
