Supermax Horror Film Is Not a Threat to Green Arrow Super Max

According to Goyer, the arrival of Supermax' isn't necessarily the end for Oliver Queen's prison sentence...
"Not necessarily," Goyer told MTV News when asked if 'Supermax' was a threat to his own similarly named project. "I don't think they're mutually exclusive."

However, the filmmaker did say that movement on the project has slowed down due to the recent formation of DC Entertainment.

"Right now, there's not much to report. Warner Brothers is moving very slowly in terms of what they're intending to do with their DC Projects. They just recently brought on DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson and once they've figured that out, they're going to get back to us on that one."

Ahhhh the main thing is that SONY's [frick]ing "SUPERMAX" wont hurt WB's "SUPER MAX"!!! ; D

Ive heard though they will be changing the name, but as long as its made, thats the main thing!!

[frick]ing EPIC find JOSH!!! Hi 5 buddy!

joshw24 - 11/6/2009, 10:50 AM
The movie that should be made is "Greel Lantern/ Green Arrow: the Road" Starring Tom Cruise(GL) and Keiffer Sutherland(GA)

Think Easy Rider with superheroes and without the death in the end, well maybe kill off Cruise....
BubbaDude - 11/6/2009, 10:50 AM
I know @ JOSH!!!! just imagine cameos of lesser known Supervillains an its said we get small cameos of JOKER and RIDDLER too!

Its a pity SONY didn't think, hmmmm, we've got all the SPIDEY villains and GHOST RIDER an stuff too, but they wanna do a crappy Supernatural prison instead!!!??

Not dissing the show here by the way, nothing to do with the show, i kinda like SUPERNATURAL.

SONY just wants creatures an ghosts an sh1t lol in their movie??!?

Cant wait for this!!!! Great find again @ JOSH!!!

dellamorte1872- IMO, that would actually be a good thing. I mean, how else are you gonna sell an unknown superhero's concept without his name in the title and with the least amount of superhero scenes in it? There was just somethin' that didn't sit right with me on that...

; D

JON HAMM all the way!!!
LEEE777 - 11/6/2009, 2:49 PM
Hey they are still doing "YEAR ONE" too right???!
LEEE777 - 11/6/2009, 2:50 PM
Degen x - Is an asshole ....

But i like this kindof news...
thegreek - 11/6/2009, 2:50 PM
Explain that statement.

If you're talking age-wise your argument is invalid. Holloway is 2 years older than Hamm. He can look experienced, but not look like an old geezer which is what I see in Hamm.

Not to mention the fact that he's in excellent shape.

And the fact that he is a spitting image of Green Arrow, something Hamm can't attest to at all.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 11/6/2009, 2:52 PM
TYLER @ You've clearly never watched "MAD MEN" HAMM screams GREEN ARROW!!

And before you say it, yes i do watch "LOST"! : D

I like HOLLOWAY of course, i did do a fan cast with him in YEAR ONE lol.

GREEK @ One to put on the H8 list! ; D
LEEE777 - 11/6/2009, 3:23 PM
I have watched it as a matter of fact. It's a good show, Hamm's good as well, but Green Arrow he is not.

He looks 45 on his best day.

I can't see him as a hero like Green Arrow.

He looks nothing like GA.

Sure, I could see him as a possible Oliver Queen, but not as Green Arrow. Holloway has the type of swagger needed for Ollie, yet can do serious and tough character types.

Anyway, you contradicted yourself by saying Holloway is Year One GA, even though he's older than Hamm, like I said in a part of my other comment, a part which you ignored, unsurprisingly.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 11/6/2009, 3:31 PM
TYLER @ Its friday, lets agree to disagree, you yourself had said its the actor not what he looks like excuse and now your saying different!

: D

End of the day, i have my doubts about HOLLOWAY losing the accent, no way can he have that deep southern accent in STAR CITY, he'd look outta place like a sore thumb or something lol. Ive never seen the guy without it, even in a movie he had the same [frick]ing accent!!

HAMM can easily get the dirty blonde look and like SET said once in the SUPER MAX he'd lose the GA look anyways.

Quality actor!!

I like "Smallville's" GREEN ARROW, don't mean i want him as GREEN ARROW in the SUPER MAX movie does it lol!!! Anyways BEER time!! ; D

LEEE777 - 11/6/2009, 4:05 PM
Hamm's look isn't the only reason I dislike him as GA. Did you only read half of my post?

I said right after the look thing that he could be Ollie, but I don't see him as GA. That has to do with acting.

Holloway in real life interviews doesn't have that deep of an accent, it wouldn't take that much to lose it.

And regarding the whole "he can dye his hair" thing, just because he can, doesn't mean he should. Do you remember a little incident concerning Jessica Alba and blond hair? How did that turn out? On some actors, a different hair color can work, but it can also work out horribly for others, as in Alba.

"I like "Smallville's" GREEN ARROW, don't mean i want him as GREEN ARROW in the SUPER MAX movie does it lol!!!"

Um....okay?
InTylerWeTrust82 - 11/6/2009, 4:17 PM
Kevin Sorbo for HawkMan.

Holloway is Green Arrow. 'Nuff said!

InTylerWeTrust82 - 11/6/2009, 6:34 PM

woo hoo!
jallanr - 11/6/2009, 7:09 PM
This would be an awesome movie. Jon Hamm would definitely be a great Green Arrow. And even though this wouldn't be an origin story, they should dedicate like 20 minutes on an origin and him busting a bunch of crimes. Maybe to it like the opening scene from Watchmen.
SithforHire - 11/6/2009, 7:17 PM
I say Keifer Sutherland as Green Arrow! Green Arrow's supposed to be an older due, anyway.

Photobucket

Have Jon Hamm play Batman, instead.

MovieTheaterLad - 11/6/2009, 8:00 PM
great article josh, yet another title on my short list to find, buy, and read
PhillyHulk - 11/6/2009, 9:47 PM
Jon Hamm would make a sick Bruce Wayne. With a little makeup, an even better Dark Knight Returns. He could pass for an older looking Bale.

My sincere opinion is, I'd rather not see a Green Arrow Supermax movie for these reasons;

1) It's GA's first outing and he's not a "tier 1" JLA'er, therefore, he is relatively unknown to the general public and it's going to be really hard to convince people to go see a movie about a superhero that escapes from prison, especially when 15 minutes into the film he's no longer Green Arrow for all intents and purposes, which brings me to...

2) He's not GA 15 minutes into the film. For real? What genius thought up this plot device? Lets take a really cool looking comic character who's entire shtick is the bow and arrow and a trademark goatee, and 15 minutes into the film take it all away (including shaving off the goatee, which as everyone knows they force you to do in prison?!?!) and throw him in a prison filled with the same criminals he put there and he attempts escape. What an original movie plot. Never seen that before. Oh wait, the escapee is Green Arrow, well that changes everything...not. He needs an origin movie first, especially if they intend to throw him into a JLA film.

3) I find it hard to believe any jury would convict a man of something criminal with a character witness like Superman on your side. I could see this happening: "And the defense calls Superman to the witness stand"..."The prosecution would like to drop all charges"... Is he framed for some murder that worlds greatest detective Batman simply can't solve and save his buddy? Granted, this is movie stuff and there are ways of making something plausible, however, if DC wishes to do what Marvel is doing in eventually bringing all the superhero films together for a JLA film, continuity may become an issue if in GA's world there are no other superheroes to take the stand in his defense.

4) This sounds like a generic plot line with absolutely zero reason to make the protagonist Green Arrow, especially if you are going to strip him of his entire identity in the opening scenes, which pisses me off to no end. Oliver Queen has no super powers. His entire Green Arrow persona rests completely on his bow and arrows, his awesome costume and his identifiable goatee and mask. It's been stated that not only do they confiscate his weapons and costume, they shave his goatee off. Excuse me? First, what penal code forces an inmate to go into the hoosegow clean shaven? Sounds like something you put into an actors contract to give him more face-time. Ridiculous. Second, and more importantly, if you intend to completely strip him of his Green Arrow identity, why use Green Arrow in the film at all? What point does it serve? For this kind of film, they would be better off making the "criminal" a real super-powered person and throw him in a Supermax with other super-powered villains. When all hell breaks loose, it wont just be a prison-yard fight, it will be unbelievable pandemonium with people flying and fire and lasers and powers and special effects galore!

5) Why a Supermax prison? Green Arrow is a street-justice hero. He defends homeless people and the poor and all they hooey. He's a hippie for Christ's sake! Do these people even read the old Green Arrow/Green Lantern books? What crime has he committed that earned him that kind of sentence? The most hardened criminals we have today go to maximum security prisons, is this what he becomes in this movie? If they had to build a Supermax prison to house super-powered villains, what's GA doing in it? He has no powers.

That's my rant. I simply believe Green Arrow, whom I read and loved in the 70's and respected for being a real different character and more of a "people's hero" kind of hero, deserves a better treatment than (what I feel is) nothing more than a vehicle to make a big-budget, monster-profit film at the expense of a superhero, figuring everyone will come see it because superhero movies make big money.

That's all this is about.
gtrman - 11/6/2009, 11:37 PM
@shibazz
I just saw your Kevin Sorbo for Hawkman comment and thought that was a really good idea. He's a decent actor and has the size and build, is about that age to play an older hero and is still buff enough. Good call.

the idea for green arrow's supermax would work better for a sequel. green arrow isn't necessarily a very well known character, and i think setting up his origin and story is the way to go to introduce him. i could totally see it for a sequel though!
CorndogBurglar - 11/7/2009, 6:22 AM

Green Arrow is the poor man's Batman and I love him for it.
@ gtrman: He's a political activist and could have gone to jail for pissing off the wrong person with that. I just hope it's not some stupid "undercover" thing.

I agree with mostly everyone else that he needs his own adventure first. Iron Man wasn't super well known before his movie.
Upupandaway - 11/7/2009, 9:29 AM
@ gtrman

i agree with your rant, lol. i wouldn't mind this for a sequel, but you can't start a relatively unknown character's franchise this way. and this is coming from someone that doesn't really like the green arrow...robin hood lookin' mutha-fugga. lol

@ upandaway

gtrman has a point though, he's getting thrown in a SUPERMAX prison?? a prison designed to hold murderers, and the most retched, scum of the earth? i guess he could be framed for murder though, but also, like gtrman said, gee, thats original, the hero of a movie is getting framed.
CorndogBurglar - 11/7/2009, 9:40 AM
I guess I disagree with you lot, I think "GREEN ARROW: SUPERMAX" (great title btw DELLAMORTE) is a great way to introduce a bunch of new characters, especially a bunch of new villians!

They can tell GREEN ARROWS origin through a series of flash-backs......this movie could seriously rock!!!!

DEGEN X-

I smell, I smell, I smell.....PU$$Y!!!! Don't be a douche and throw out one disparaging comment about a veteran on this board, and if your gonna, at least stick around and deal with the flames....pu$$y.
Talontd - 11/7/2009, 10:27 AM
Someone say Pu$$y!!!!?!?!?!?!?!? :D
teabag - 11/7/2009, 10:51 AM
@ talontd

its a way to introduce him, but he won't even be the green arrow. they take away his bow and costume and shave his goatee. at that point, he's just a guy in prison with super powered villains that hate his face. thats not a good introduction to a character.

the only way i could see it working is if they did it like batman begins. show him get thrown in jail in the very beginning, then do a flashback. make the first half-quarter of the movie the flashback with no interruptions. the flashback could show him being green arrow, and then when it comes back to present time, show him get ready for the breakout. the whole movie can't be him in prison with sporadic flashbacks.
CorndogBurglar - 11/7/2009, 11:03 AM
CD@ agree...i dont actualy like this idea tho ;(
teabag - 11/7/2009, 11:46 AM
Well, I would love to see a Green Arrow done like this:

Starts off with him getting thrown in jail, traveling to the prison, everything up to him actually being put in the cell, while it cuts to flashbacks as to how he got in this mess.

Over the course of the movie, there are more flashbacks to his past/origin that help him to escape the prison, sort of like in Slumdog Millionaire. This way, those who want the movie to be his origin will be satisfied, as will those who want the SuperMax movie. The last part of the movie will be him on the run from the authorities, tracking down the guys who framed him, and then clearing his name.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 11/7/2009, 12:21 PM
Huh, I just noticed this article's made the "What's Hot" section on the top of the site - after over 80 news articles thats the first one...awesome!!! :D

TYLER: Great idea! I could see that working really well!
joshw24 - 11/7/2009, 12:41 PM
@everyone

My biggest issue is simply, in a world where the JLA is supposed to exist if were talking about a world with a Green Arrow in it, you're either framed for something you didn't do or are incarcerated for whatever political machination some elected windbag invents for the media to slander you with, how the hell do you wind up in prison, a Supermax no less, with Superman testifying on your behalf and Batman investigating the real crime? Who the hell gets found guilty when Superman approaches the stand and says "this man is a good friend of mine, I'm incapable of lying, and he didn't do it."?

This is, of course, if DC is planning on eventually bringing GA into a JLA movie and wish to preserve some kind of continuity.
gtrman - 11/7/2009, 9:04 PM
@gtrman: I won't have faith in DC's movie ventures until I see Green Lantern. That movie is the deal breaker for me.

@josh: Geez dude, again with the Main page issue? What is so important to you about having all your articles there?
MultiPurposePoni - 11/7/2009, 9:29 PM
@ gtrman

you're exactly right! i like to think/hope that DC is trying to follow in Marvel's steps. and if thats the case, then this is a terrible way to get GA introduced to the public for a JLA movie.

@ multi

me too man. GL is one of the most sci-fi centric characters in comics history. if they can pull this movie off and somehow keep both the fans and non-fans interested and excited, then they can make any of their heroes into movies.
CorndogBurglar - 11/8/2009, 9:05 AM
MULTI: I think you took my comment the wrong way - Im not complaining or being sarcastic, Im just kind of pleased with that, lol! Its kind of cool to see one of my articles up there is all! :)
joshw24 - 11/8/2009, 10:49 AM
A little off topic, but anyone casting Woody Harrelson for anything. I know he's doing a non-comic thing, but after seeing Zombieland I want him to bring a beloved character to life.
Upupandaway - 11/8/2009, 11:19 AM

I've been working on a thing where I casted him as The Shoker from Spider-Man.
MovieTheaterLad - 11/8/2009, 2:38 PM
@Upupandaway
Would that be the Shicken Shoker?
gtrman - 11/8/2009, 9:42 PM
I happen to agree wholeheartedly with gtrman.

I think Supermax would be a horrendous way to introduce Green Arrow to the movie-going public. Then, stripping Oliver Queen of everything that makes him iconically Green Arrow? Terrible idea.

Nice detailed analysis there, gtrman.
