A little odd this one. Fiore Mastracci of The Examiner has come up with a fair few wild claims about the future of the James Bond franchise, the highlights of which you can read below. I thought I'd share it with you as it makes for something of an interesting read, but as this is the same site that claimed John Cena and The Rock are competing for a role in Superman, I wouldnt take it too seriously.

The first battle staged over BOND 23 had to do with its star, Daniel Craig. There was a concerted effort to oust Craig as Bond and insert Clive Owen. Owen has coveted the role for some time and was on the original short list of possible Bonds before Craig was selected.

After the success of CASINO ROYALE, MGM signed Craig to a two picture contract extension. To dump Craig now would have cost the financially strapped MGM an unacceptable amount in a buyout. BOND 23 keeps Craig as Bond, the majority of the public unaware of the PR snafus and the cost reasonable. Pundits within MGM are alluding to this being Craig’s swan song however, and Owen as the front runner for his replacement in BOND 24.

Due to the delay caused by keeping Craig for another film, Owen is said to be asking for a three picture commitment for Bond, something MGM may not want to do.

To read more about the ridiculous reasons for the so-called falling out between Daniel Craig and MGM (nonsense about the actor being captured by this tabloid in a "compromising position") follow the link below. The Examiner is far from a reliabe source, so I'd advise taking this with a huge grain of salt for the time being. Do you buy it? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

If this is true? Then Bond should get his revenge in this next movie and after that if Craig doesnt want to be Bond anymore i say then Clive Owen is great replacement!:)
Anyone who has seen The International, Inside Man, Children of Men, The Bourne Indentity, Shoot ´Em Up and I´ll Sleep When I´m Dead knows that Owen can definitely play a samekind of cold Bond than Craig!:)

canadianturd - 1/15/2011, 3:16 PM
Cool.
AlexDeLarge87 - 1/15/2011, 3:31 PM
Just think about it first guys?! Dont just shot the idea right away!:)
And actually i think Owen would have been much better choice as Bond in the first place!
He has the Craigs Bonds attitude, but the original Bonds look!
bizzarro - 1/15/2011, 3:31 PM
HUGH JACKMAN FOR BOND.
Reasonnnn - 1/15/2011, 3:33 PM
Um, Craig is going to be Bond for the 23rd installment. The release date for Bond 23 has already been announced.
AlexDeLarge87 - 1/15/2011, 3:49 PM

I look forward to the next Craig/Bond film, he does a great job! At the same time I have always wanted to see Clive Owen as James Bond. As great a job as Daniel Craig did and will do in the next one, I would have preferred Clive Owen. Either way it's Win-Win Check out the BMW short films to see what I mean:

Craig has been the best Bond EVER! If he isn't going to be in anymore after the next movie, I think Owen would be just as good as 007. It is a win win if you ask me.
GiganteRed - 1/15/2011, 4:59 PM
I respectfully disagree earzmundo. But, you're welcome to have a preference. I think that gent looks too much like an underwear model...
BUT, to each his own.
TheDurkinKnight - 1/15/2011, 5:01 PM
I say bullshit! Owen is too old to pick up the franchise in 2014 or whenever. He would be in his 50's. I don't see it happening at all.
GiganteRed - 1/15/2011, 5:12 PM
Jeez, relax man. He's not an antique. It's not like he's Harrison Ford taking up Indy again.
(Side note: Although for his age he did a lot better than most would think).
JustinMSalvato - 1/15/2011, 5:41 PM
Excellent choice. Better than Craig.
CaptainAustralia - 1/15/2011, 5:51 PM
I the early pre-Craig days Clive Owen was indeed a firm favourite, and I felt he'd be a good choice. But having watched a few of his films in the years since, Clive Owen's biggest problem is that he can't act!

Seriously: he might have the dark moody broody looks, he cuts a good action figure and he fills a tux mighty fine.

But in any Bond film between the action, tuxedo-wearing and odd dark moody looks there's this thing calls acting (hell, sometimes they even 'act' during the moody bits and the tuxedo bits) and Clive Owen is a lousy flat actor. He just can't bloody act!

I'd rather see Craig on for a fourth and then step down to someone more in his mould who can slowly edge Bond back into the early Connery era in terms of a little fun and 'classic' cinema Bond (if that's what people are still wanting).
fullmetal - 1/15/2011, 6:09 PM
i can see it happening...
Ryden - 1/15/2011, 6:22 PM
An American Bond? Don't think so. That;s like casting an Scotsman as Captain America.

I'm Gonna Sound Like An Idiot, Gerard Butler Makes Me Think...
Sto0pidpenguinpro - 1/15/2011, 6:30 PM
Hahahahaha I'll tell you right now, that's not true. EVEN if somehow Craig costs alot as an actor, he is the one bringing in the money for the movies, even more so than the brand name. Craig sells the show as Bond. People will pay to see the movie because they know he is a superb Bond, so his salary is no problem, especially for the cash strapped MGM (who probably wont be producing the movie anyway, sadly).

Come back to me when Bond 23 comes out. I promise you Craig will be the one returning.
TheYesGuy - 1/15/2011, 6:33 PM
Guys think bout it.., Chris bale as bond??? he looked great in tdk scene when he says he's breaking traffic rules..!! watch him when he drives his car>>!!!
GiganteRed - 1/15/2011, 6:49 PM
I'm gonna have to Bail out on the Christian Bale choice...sorry man!
Let's just hope that they get the right DIRECTOR as well! That can make all the difference and bring out the right performance from an actor.
Who's the rumored director anyway?
CuteAsian - 1/15/2011, 7:18 PM
tom hardy for bond 24.

you know you want it.
croniccris - 1/15/2011, 7:42 PM
wtf...no craig is james bond yo
BackwardGalaxy - 1/15/2011, 9:27 PM
Daniel Craig is an awesome Bond. I can't stand Clive Owen and would be greatly disappointed if he stepped into the famous tux.
Kalabog - 1/15/2011, 10:11 PM
Hell no! At least let Bond Craig finish his trilogy. I've really want to see first Daniel Craig evolve his character to the Bond we all know and the completion of the Bond ensemble-- Q and Moneypenny-- before jumping to a new actor.
Triptheorist - 1/15/2011, 10:12 PM
Daniel Craig is Bond. Casino Royale was amazing. It's not his fault that Quantam was a poorly written and executed piece of garbage.
MaddMonkk - 1/15/2011, 10:21 PM
I really like Daniel Craig, but it's tradition to change bonds after a few flicks, right??
FrankGarret - 1/16/2011, 1:05 AM
He hasn't had a few Bonds, though, he needs at bare minimum one more. I'm not interested n Owen as Bond anyway, but I'm biased. I want to see him as Holden Carver in Sleeper.

SLEEPER fan cast
orgasmicslug - 1/16/2011, 1:13 AM
I wanted clive to get the bond role when they gave it to daniel craig. so this is good news to me. i think he is perfect for the role.
TheHierophant - 1/16/2011, 3:14 AM
Too many people saying that Daniel Craig is the best Bond ever... Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I always considered Sean Connery the best, followed closely by Pierce Brosnan... Clive is a terrible choice. Every character he plays sounds, and acts, the same way... Oh well, I'm just a fan...
AlexDeLarge87 - 1/16/2011, 3:37 AM
FrankGarret@ He would be great Holden!:)

This rumor is really ridiculous. There is no way that they would even be talking about another James Bond when Bond 23 hasn't even started shooting yet and won't be released until the end of 2012. Besides, MGM may have input, but final decision rests with Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli at Eon Productions. Besides which, why would they recast given the success of both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace?
AlexDeLarge87 - 1/16/2011, 4:59 AM
grif@ One of the best dead scenes ever! I like it how he blow up like a balloon! No blood or pieces of flesh anywhere!:D
loulu2u - 1/16/2011, 3:23 PM
I don't believe the rumor. Why would they replace Daniel Craig with someone 4 years older? Don't get me wrong, I like Clive Owen. He was great in Children of Men and Closer. I realize Owen was a front runner for Bond when Craig was cast. It just doesn't make sense as a rumor.
TyrannicalOverlord - 1/17/2011, 8:06 AM
They ought to go with someone who is not already an established actor when Craig is done. Connery was a nobody before being cast as Bond and he is arguably the most iconic Bond.

Owen would have done well if he were cast earlier but not so much now. They need someone younger for next time. I like Bale, but he's Batman. Not Bond. That would be an incredibly bad idea.
