Here's his first reaction when shown the picture of him in the newly designed Spider-Man costume that was revealed online just a few days ago:

"It’s cool right? That’s cool man! I’m not going to lie, I’m kind of excited by that! It’s ridiculous and surreal...I’m really kind of humbled by it."

As for whether or not the tone of the reboot will be any darker, he said:

"You’ll have to wait a year and a half to find out!"

It also looks like he's picking up some of Spidey's trademark wit as he joked about being invited to the Golden Globes:

"I always thought I’d be invited to the Golden Globes as a seat filler, you know, when somebody goes to the bathroom. I’m just happy to come here and get a meal."

The currently untitled Spider-Man reboot will be released in 3D on July 3, 2012!

I like his wit. Spider-Man needs to make intelligent quips like that. Not cheesy one-liners like "I'M THE SHERIFF AROUND THESE PARTS!!"
Hawksblueyes - 1/17/2011, 5:37 PM
Cool stuff Josh. That last comment was very Parker ish.
comicbookjerk - 1/17/2011, 5:43 PM
LoL I agree With LEe and now that you mention it it does look like the costume has a basketball Melted on a spandex!
HeavyHands - 1/17/2011, 5:52 PM
I wholeheartedly agree with brazilianbatman, even though his profile picture is very gay
LEEE777 - 1/17/2011, 5:54 PM
ArrionShadow @ Hell yeahhhhh!!! ; P
Niem8211 - 1/17/2011, 6:01 PM
Don’t know what to think... If it is darker than the first 3 then OK... Or it may be as LEE says a lighter piece of High School musical crap, which will be far worse than SPM 3... If that is possible?
Jimdlux - 1/17/2011, 6:57 PM
FAIL
Sephiroth - 1/17/2011, 7:14 PM
I like his answer about the tone of the film
Kalel315 - 1/17/2011, 7:43 PM
^Then just post the pic of the hot blonde, not what you have now LOL
Bigpoppa0504 - 1/17/2011, 8:28 PM

This kid is lame. I'm really hoping he can pull this off. Unfortunately I think we might have another X-Men 3 on our hands.
SuspenseSmith - 1/17/2011, 10:12 PM
I think what they meant by dark is actually a nice way of saying "Is it going to be less corny and campy that Raimi's version?"

That's what I define as dark: more intensity, heavy on emotions, extra suspense, hold the cheese. Just the way I like my movies.
Batman27 - 1/17/2011, 10:44 PM
I hope this film ends up being good.
TheGreenBee - 1/17/2011, 10:59 PM
I predict more real feeling. Garfield has heart with everything he does; it'll show in Spider-Man.
Knightstalker - 1/17/2011, 11:36 PM
Better actor? we'll see. Better suit? Uhhhhhh......NO! hate it. Just hate it. Looks like a gortex nightmare in my winter gear drawer. I'm just not wrapping my brain around the whole "Twilight" take on the premature reboot.
Ryden - 1/18/2011, 12:18 AM
@KnightStalker- It's pretty much a given that Garfield is ten times the actor Maguire is, he's far more diverse and his roles are far more interesting and in depth. As for the suit, that's a personal choice...but since when was their any confirmation to the bullshit rumour that it's going to be a Twilight-esque movie? Because his hair was a bit puffy in one or two photos seriously?

People really need to realise how stupid they're sounding, they're just hating on the reboot for no good reason when everything we've seen up to now has been fine.
ThunderCougarFalconBird - 1/18/2011, 12:21 AM
I'm hoping this is going to be good. One thing is for sure, Sony has got balls! And that's a good thing! To reboot a money making machine (yes the last one was bad but it made money and a sequel would have made money), scrap the Spiderman look and physique the general public are familiar with and go with something that holds true to the comic AND scrap MJ as the love interest and go with what the public know as his bit on the side as his first love (again true to the book). You can't deny the fact Sony have gambled a lot to give the fan boys what they want.
Denn1s - 1/18/2011, 1:25 AM
i love this guy. i was totally against the reboot at first, but after seeing the costume and reading some of his interviews, my hopes are rising. at least he cares for the role.

dirtyfarmkid@ favreau was a C list director too. elf? martin sheen is considered a very good actor. apocalypse now? and as for the lizard we don't know how he will be portrayed. maybe CGI with prosthetics? wait for it man.
MovieTheaterLad - 1/18/2011, 1:45 AM
@dirtyfarmkid

I cannot believe you are not aware of how much of a famous actor Martin Sheen is. Like, it's almost unreal that you think Dennis Leary is the biggest name on there. And the fact that you said he was worthless despite him starring in both Apocalypse Now and The West Wing is just ridiculously sad to hear.

Also, remember how District 9 and The Hurt Locker both cost little to no money, had no big name stars at all, and had directors that didn't really do alot?

Remember how they both got nominated for best picture, and one of them won? And remember how nobody cared about those other things I mentioned because they were REALLY good movies?

Honestly, you're complaining about there being no big names. You're being shallow and not actually appreciating films and actors for their talent or skill. You're like the people who claim that Avatar was an inherently good quality movie because it got alot of money.

Secondly, your statement on the Lizard MIGHT hold water if this were 1997. But it isn't. CGI is literally the only way they can go without looking like the infamous Star Trek fight.
Batman27 - 1/18/2011, 1:56 AM
You guys don't just assume this film will be awesome. Hope it will be. No one here really knows if this film will be amazing. I will just hope it will be.
TheSuperSoldier - 1/18/2011, 2:40 AM
Change your hair you [frick]en emo hippy. This movies gonna blow!
WeekendAvenger - 1/18/2011, 4:03 AM
@Seaotterrodgers get a life and stop complaining about his hair loser oh and this movie will blow our minds
jaybear - 1/18/2011, 7:24 AM
funny.. Jesse Eisenberg said the same thing ("..i thought I was just going to be a seat filler..")when he got interviewed during the Golden Globes award ceremony..
Scion - 1/18/2011, 7:51 AM
They all say the same things in Hollywood. How they're humbled and feel really lucky and how surreal it is. It's just Hollywood talk. I'm sure he said the same thing about being in a David Fincher movie.
lostrojo - 1/18/2011, 8:20 AM
im sorry but im loving the phrase "frick the reboot" its just being scared of change, there is just no real way you can decide weather or not this movie is going to be good or bad on just the costume.......which might i add looks amazing, Andrew garfield looks like a far better peter parker than toby.
plus this twilight hair cut bull crap has to stop its a friking hair cut not a frickin synopsis, THIS MOVIE CANT BE WORSE THAN THE LAST ONE SO STOP COMPLAINING.
The14thAvenger - 1/18/2011, 8:32 AM
@dirtyfarmkid

dude you got it all wrong, martin sheen worthless?!? DO YOU HAVE ANY FILM KNOWLEDGE WHAT SO EVER?

its not about what class an actor is man, that all come down to popularity, agencies and media bullsh!t.

the fact that garfield is mostly unknown is completely irrelevant his body of work and skill as an actor far surpasses most of the hollywood 'actors' who only really get famous because their good at looking good.

im my opinion this film has everything going for it right now (except that its not marvel studios) my final decision will be when the trailers realised and obviously come july 2012 we shall discover the verdict.

my main problem is that we just had to suffer through 5 years of toby maguire and sam raimi ruin it
Joe6Pack74 - 1/18/2011, 8:44 AM
At least the kid is humble and has a sense of humor.
spider1489 - 1/18/2011, 9:21 AM
I like this guy! he seems like he is really pump to be spiderman!

this movie is gonna be great!!! im glad they change the costume up to seperate it from sam cheesy rami( still like the old movies but they were still pretty cheesy)
fullmetal - 1/18/2011, 11:45 AM
@dirtyfarmkid i get your point. i liked sam raimi's films, he's a master film maker, love darkman and evil dead 2 and 3 but you are an ignorant moron for saying martin sheen is worthless, a complete dumb ass...ever seen APOCALYPSE NOW?!!! the greatest film ever made!!!
fullmetal - 1/18/2011, 11:49 AM
masterpieces from martin sheen, you moron:

APOCALYPSE NOW, Gandhi,The Departed, Catch Me if You Can, Badlands
SPACEDout - 1/18/2011, 1:03 PM
Why are people comparing it to twilight? because he is in high school? Maybe ppl forget SPIDER-MAN WAS ORIGINALLY A TEENAGER! A story set in high school doesn't equate to twilight. I'm personally excited for this movie. And i'm glad the Raimi spider-man movies are done with.
comicb00kguy - 1/18/2011, 3:39 PM
I agree wth Number21. Garfield seems to have a good attitude. He also sounds like an actual fan of the character, which is always a plus in my book.

ThunderCougarFalconBird - 1/19/2011, 12:14 AM
@dirtyfarmkid - I'm going to say something very controversial but I feel it's needed to possibly save a few hours of your life. Apocolypse Now is a steaming turd of a movie! It has three good scenes, Robert Duval's "you either fight or surf" scene, Marlon Brando/Dennis Hopper near the end and finally the end credits!! The rest is overhyped coma inducing boredom! And that's coming from a huge fan of thought provoking movies. Don't bother with it!
thesymbiote - 1/26/2011, 1:55 PM
@dirtyfarmkid

dude...have you even seen Garfield's acting??? Just watch Social Network and Never Let Me Go. He did some amazing acting there.

Also, about the director himself. Webb may be new to the scene, but I doubt very much you should dismiss him so easily. Just watch 500 Days of Summer. Its is probably one of THE best movies in its genre. Dead Serious. Plus, the main character and the humor both fit Peter Parker perfectly.

Like I always say, we will have to wait and see :)
