Matthew Vaughn And Bryan Singer Confirm Plans For X-Men: First Class Sequels!

The director confirms plans for more movies, while producer Bryan Singer confirms that there have been discussions to set them in the 70s and 80s and actor James McAvoy talks about plans for Charles Xavier...

First Class is similar to Batman Begins, where you have the fun of introducing the characters and getting to know them, but that takes time," the director told Total Film in an interview in the latest issue of the magazine. "But with the second one you can just get on with it and have a rollicking good time. That’s the main difference between Begins and The Dark Knight."

Vaughn then went on to reveal that while X-Men: First Class is set in 1962, he's interested in moving on to a later point in the decade due to the various other elements from the period that would allow him to explore.

"1962 is far more grounded in the world of the ’50s. I think it takes about five years for a decade to really start getting its identity, so the fun thing about this for me would be doing [a sequel] in the latter part of the decade, where you’ve got The Stones, The Beatles, Flower Power..."

Producer Bryan Singer then confirmed that there have indeed been discussions about actually setting the next chapters in the franchise in the 70s and 80s respectively: "That’s an idea that’s been discussed. How the characters go through time. But only to a point – they can’t age too fast!"

And what would actor James McAvoy like to see in any future movies? Well, apart from wanting to see Charles Xavier get, "really messed up" in the sequels, he has his own ideas about what direction the character could be taken in, "In First Class he uses Cerebro for the first time and maybe it unlocks something in his head – maybe he can’t keep the voices out or something."

"So in the second movie his journey could be about getting himself out of a mess. And then in the third movie he become...Patrick Stewart!"

X-Men: First Class is set to be released on June 3, later this year!

Meh. First Class looks okay but I don't like the general tone of the any of the films.
The animated show nailed it most of the time, would love to see it more stylized, somewhat darker in parts and larger in scale.

Batman Begins keeps popping up every time a director talks about their film. Riding Nolans nuts pretty hard.

As long as they introduce Cyclops, Jean, and Storm in the sequel I'll be happy. Plus with Vaughn at the helm we can expect more comic-oriented costumes. This could be a good thing people.

So I guess no Cyclops & Jean for Part 2 then. Because they'd still be too young. If Part 3 is to be set in the 80s, then we'd get to see something of a First Class. Because Wolverine Origins mainly took place in the early 80s

The Magneto has basically been incorporated into First Class. There's no more need for a solo Magneto movie at this point.

I'm really curious to see how they would address their continuity problems & if possible, what they can do to correct X3...Sigh that movie could've been so much more than what the finla product was. Dark Phoenix was just a waste.

megabatfan - 4/13/2011, 7:03 AM
^^^ Agreed. I can accept the movies as it's own universe/ interpretation. Same as the different takes on Batman in the cartoons. (Batman:TAS vs The Batman).

But at least stick with your own continuity...
- Gambit it Origins would be too old for X4.
- How would they address the "human" looking Mc Coy in X2.
- If Prof X and Magneto falls out in First Class, how would they explain goin to recruit Jean years later in X3?

MTL@, No it's not like saying the other
universes had bad continuity.

When FOX can't even keep their stories
straight in their own continuity then that
is absolute failure!
FAILURE!

It's total HORSESHIT!

PLEASE DISNEY/MARVEL BUY X-MEN BACK from
these fools called FOX PRONTO, PLEASE!!!!!!

....AND SOMEBODY RUN SINGER OVER WITH A BUS
before he touches THE X-MEN AGAIN!

This film is not even in continuity with X1.

In X1 Xavier clearly states Jean and Scott were amongst his first students, but First Class shows that isnt true. He also states he first met Magneto when they were 17, but First Class shows that to be BS or maybe Xavier develops Alzheimers disease and cant remember when he first ran into Eric.

If Vaughn is so keen to explore other aspects of the 60s then Jean and Cyclops wont be appearing anytime soom.

Their idea is exactly what I wanted to see in the next sequels, if made.

I dont want to see a whole trilogy set in the 60's, that would be too much.

So a sequel in the 70's would be interesting, to see the evolution of the characters, but the big sequel would be the next one, with Scott, Jean and Ororo, finally!!

I want to see that movie already, lol

Maybe the Shadow King will be featured? Either way, I'm going to check this movie out first before making any sweeping judgments as I am not a whiny little child who didn't get my way.
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 4/13/2011, 7:54 AM
DDD, the only potential for poor continuity that I can recall is Professor X and Magneto going to recruit Jean in the late 70's (I think) at the beginning of X3 where they are still friends and Professor X is walking. This may or may not mess with the continuity as we have yet to see what happens in First Class. Am I missing anything else?

"@Newbus, he says they were some of his first students, he never said they were his first."

So it takes Xavier almost 25+ years to recruit his first students?

So why is the film called first class and why is there a logo depicting the large X symbol with the words "Xavier's school for the gifted" circled around it?
CaptainAmerica
CaptainAmerica - 4/13/2011, 8:16 AM
Idk, maybe you should watch the film first and see if they explain it.
Newbus
Newbus - 4/13/2011, 8:25 AM
I may just pass on that and wait for the reviews.

If they had come out from the start and said this is a reboot then I may go out of my way to watch it, but when they come out with major continuity issues with the source material and their own films I say forget it!

They got a great cast but whoever is responsible for the source matrial needs a boot up the fist a$$.
CaptainAmerica
CaptainAmerica - 4/13/2011, 8:30 AM
Darkanalmatter, are you mad cuz they hired a $2 whore to write Iron Man 3? You mad that instead of being frozen Cap will come out of an egg? Are you mad that Whiplash from Iron Man 2 was an abortion of the real Whiplash from the comics? Are you mad cuz Ant Man and Wasp won't be part of the Avengers like in the comics? Are you mad cuz you won't see the original Avengers line up in the film? Are you mad cuz Nick Fury is black? Are you mad cuz Marvel switches actors around like crazy? Y u mad bro?

This is your train of thought right here;
First Class will not have the original line up due to the fact that the film takes place in the 60's and Cyclops, Jean, Angel, and Iceman would have been too young.
"Wut???? Dis is bullshit! Reboot! Boycott! Fox suks"

Cap will come out of an egg instead of being frozen this whole time.
"Yea, makes sense, Cap's origin is kinda silly anyways, Marbel r the awusumest!"

Okay.. HOW IS THIS BAD NEWS AGAIN? What is wrong with you so called "fans" that you have to needlessly hate on every single CBM and news report. If you hate everything so much than why bother reading anything on this site?

This is GREAT news. This movie looks amazing and sequels to it should be great as long as they're handled by Vaughn or Singer or Vaughn AND Singer.
