Sebastian Stan Speculates On The Future Of "Old Man" Bucky In Captain America Sequels!

Check out what the actor had to say when quizzed on how his portrayal of Bucky in Captain America: The First Avenger differs from the comic books, as well as whether he'll be donning prosthetics to play an old man in a future movie...

To read more about what Sebastian Stan thinks of the movie, and his thoughts on the relationship between Steve and Bucky, head on over to Movieweb by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page. For now, here are a few highlights from their exclusive interview with the Captain America: The First Avenger star where he talks about both his interpretation and the future of the character.

On How His Take On The Character Differs To The Comic Books:

Initially, I saw the character...This version was going to be a more relatable, real, honest take. And for audiences in 2011, we had to look at war and the realities of it. I found this version of the character to be very human. This is a guy who essentially grew up as an orphan. He's got Steve, whom he treats like a brother, this is his only family, and at the same time, he lives in a conflicted world. He was born into the military, but he has started to question himself. He has seen the horrors of war, he understands what it is. But he is constantly looking to better himself. Is he getting what he should be getting out of life? At the same time, the conflict is that he will never let anything happen to Steve. That ties directly into the circumstances that he is in. I think those are very real issues. Its not about, "Let's go kick some butt!" All the time. It's also about this internal struggle. I thought that was interesting.

On Where We Might Next See Bucky In Future Movies:

The possibilities are endless. It's too early for me to say. Honestly, I don't know where this story is going to go. Obviously, there is a line in the comic books about where this could potentially go. I think the story is set up for any option. I think a lot remains to be seen.

On Whether He'll Be Donning Prosthetics And Playing An Aged Bucky In a Retirement Home:

That sounds a little far fetched to me. As an actor, I would look to see where the interesting scenes are, what it's about, and what the purpose of it is. Should this be the story? I would prefer that he be a version of Jason Bourne. If we do see him as an old man, I would hope that he'd wind up in a better situation than a retirement home. Maybe he will be somewhere on a ranch, with a really hot wife and seven kids. Maybe it will end something like that. (Laughs)

I am pretty sure there not going the ultimate route and making him an old man IMO that would just be a waste. Winter Soldier FTW

They should just compromise to make ALL the fans happy. Have him grow old, but still be

Winter Soldier. Have him be Old Man Winter Soldier. Now THAT is CBM Gold. That'll get

all the grannies crooning! Nobody thinks about all the elderly. That should be their

target audience. It's a freaking cash mine.

I always thought Bucky's death was a defining momemnt for Captain America and that bringing him back as Winter Soldier cheapened that. No matter how much people liked that storyline in the comics, I hope in the MCU, they just leave him dead.

Die, Bucky, die.

Bucky as Winter Soldier would be a great present-day sequel to Captain America: TFA

@ricodetroit...true dat, but then again peggy's death (or old age, whatever) will be an even more defining moment for cap. they should bring bucky back as winter imo just as cap is finally getting a grip on his new life in the modern world. it would be earth shattering for him and make for some cool character drama

@marvelpsycho...i agree, save winter soldier for cap 3 and focus more on sharon carter in cap 2...then having bucky/winter in the last one will bring the trilogy full circle

Bucky in the early comics reminds me of Robin, and if people are open to Bucky then maybe they would be open to Robin in a future Batman movie.

Alright. I want a Domino Mask this time though. It worked perfectly well with The Comedian. Maybe add a few features like thermal goggles into the mask or something?

Don't line the Winter Soldier storyline of him falling into communist hands and being brainwashed into some type of mindless assassin. Much rather the idea that he get a small dose of the serum and help form shield after the war and then go off the grid (retire) for the next 50 years or so.

@fangz

the conclusion of the Winter soldier arc, and how he came to be Captain America is roughly this:

Cap finds out Bucky may have survived the war after all.

Sharon Carter is kidnapped by him(in a plot to charge the cosmic cube, he succeeds), and as she is rescued, she tells Cap the WS looks like Bucky.

Captain America tracks down and confronts the Winter Soldier. Upon gaining control of the Cube, he tells the Soldier, "Remember who you are". Regaining his memories, Bucky becomes overwhelmed by guilt over his past actions, crushing the Cosmic Cube and teleporting away.

He reappears shortly afterward in London, England, where he helps Captain America fend off a terrorist attack. He asks Nick Fury for employment and new equipment following the loss of his bionic arm. Stark builds him a new one

by crushing the cube, it teleported him to London(or somewhere nearby).

And yes, i believe fury was resistant to give him a job or any help what so ever, and henry peter gyrich and maria hill wanted to arrest him(which eventually did happen)

Cap wanted to keep bucky close to him to make sure his old friend was back, but Cap ended up biting the proverbial bullet(even though he didn't die, he was stuck jumping through time......grant morrison return of bruce wayne anyone?)
