Talking to Hit Fix, Lauren Shuler Donner talked less about X-Men: First Class (although you can find out her reaction to it's initially disappointing opening weekend by clicking on the link below) and more about the current status of both The Wolverine and Deadpool. The former will be directed by James Mangold, and has been delayed a fair few times now, as filming was originally expected to begin this year. While they may have the script in place, and everyone raring to go, it appears the movies actual schedule is still unclear.

"[We want] to distinguish it from the other one. It's much more of a standalone [movie]. I'm not sure when we'll start," she said. "Maybe summer 2012 we'll start shooting. It's based on Hugh's schedule, frankly. When he's available, we'll film...He's doing 'Les Miserables', and then he has to come and train for us. So it's all dependent on him."

And what of Deadpool? We know that Tim Miller has signed up to direct it, but it's yet another project which has been plagued with delays, mainly caused by Ryan Reynolds' busy schedule with other movies. So, is the actor still Fox's top choice to play the Merc with a Mouth? "Absolutely, yeah. I can't imagine...who else could play Wade Wilson? We're working on getting it ready, and presenting some things to the studio, cause we're gonna give it a little bit of a different look. It's a different kind of movie. If you know 'Deadpool'...it's true to 'Deadpool'. So you know, it'll be violent, and outrageous, and funny, and all that. So we're sort of putting it all together now."

"Yes he was treated totally wrong in the Wolverine film and yes we will redeem him. But I'm pretty excited. We have a good script and a good director," she added in a separate interview with Total Film.

I have to say, I've never been a huge fan of the character but the Deadpool script is completely insane and if they stay true to it, it will undoubtedly be a cult classic.

I have little to no hopes for Deadpool, and I know they're just gonna screw "The Wolverine" up. It already has a stupid title. Just call it "Wolverine".

So we're going to get 2 more movies that completely make a mockery of the continutity already set in place from previous films? Greeeeaat! I'm sure that Wolverine and Deadpool will be alright but can't they at least TRY to have these movie's feature some form of intertwining story like the Marvel Studios films? It's as if they're hell bent on making these movies undo anything that was established in the past. It's annoying.

@ Romack

Ah come one, "The Wolverine" is a shout out to the old days. Everyone in the comics referred to him as "The Wolverine" It's almost kinda funny to read now :p

I'm doubting Deadpool will ever happen, especially with RR. He's starting to bomb as a lead (not just comicbook movies). So how many more "meh's" can he make before his agent says "Don't do another comic movie! Do something different like Buried or The Nines or Chaos Theory!"

I don't even think they should do this Wolverine story now.

They should reboot the last one, play with the memory implants idea, focus on him being a badass soldier and then being created as Weapon X (with a black military interpretation on the costume, kinda like TDK) and going on illegal and unethical government assassin missions.

Basically torture the guy for a couple hours, killing everything of his past, maybe, maybe even make Logan - controlled as Weapon X - go out and kill everyone that Logan was ever close to, he's made to kill everyone in his past that knows who he really is, he's friends, past lovers, to show the people who created him that he's under their control.

Think of how severely that would mess him up after he's snapped out of their control, that he was the one who killed those he cared about, pretty decent set up for making wolverine want some revenge, and instead of a adamantium bullet, his mental healing factor kicks in toward end of the film because his brain can't hand that kind of trauma, his brain forces a berserker rage state while it's repairing, and he goes after everyone as The Wolverine.

At the end his healing factor has made his memories a jumbled blurry mess.

Then go to Japan.

reynolds mistake was Hal Jordan, not Wade Wilson. If the script is as good as i've heard I'm really excited about this flick.

@Intruder: Jackman won't be saying "I am Jean Valjean", he'll be singing it. It's an adaptation of the Broadway musical.

The problem with Deadpool will be convincing Fox to pony up the budget for a Reynolds- headlining feature after this last summer, which Deadline Hollywood and others labeled as the summer that proved Reynolds is not a star. I think that's too harsh, but perception matters when your talking $100m+ investments. Better untried than tried and failed.

With the new found love for horror comedy, such as Zombieland, I don't see why this hasn't been pushed into production yet. At this point Wade Wilson is going to resemble Pizza the Hut more than Ryan Reynolds so if Reynolds is the sole cause for the hold up then get someone else to voice Wade...like Nolan North.

I don't buy it, though. The hold up is between the studio and the film makers. The studio wants to be able to market a line of toys and collectibles to every kid under the Sun. Logic says that you can't do that when you make a rated R movie so the fight is over how brutal the story should be. Mark my words, I am correct!

Wow... They still want Jackman for Wolverine? FAIL. Wolverine will bomb again. Because we all know hes not even gonna be in any type of suit. He's gonna be in his leather jacket and jeans. And my honest opinion Jackman was never good at playing James Howwlet. And a Deadpool movie??? Does fox know that Deadpool can really pop up anywhere in the Marvel universe? He can be fighting the Hulk in one issue and then joking around with Taskmaster in the next. Idk how they are gonna pull it off?

Not going to happen, I like Deadpool but I agree that he is in every freaking comic I pick up from Marvel these days, give it a rest already; it's like Wolverine I'm over it. Give me some other characters to see on the big screen because frankly the only people who will see this are all fan boys and girls.

Lauren Shuler Donner doesn't know any of the characters she's working with, neither does she care. She's a clueless woman with lots of money, who's chewing on Marvel's property and does everything to not lose the rights, cause once she has, it's over.

And we don't need that "I know we screwed Deadpool" crap. If you cared, you'd change it before the movie came out. If you regret it, you'd fast track the Deadpool movie, which is in development hell for 3 years now, also thanks to greedy Ryan "box office poison" Reynolds.

Dude, I said the same thing about it being in development hell.. crazy!!

@Avalanche
If you have to ask that question then you don't belong here buddy.. and I'm saying this in the nicest way possible.

After the whole barackapool debacle, Donner needs to stay the hell away from any Marvel property. It's ridiculous when Fox makes anything Xmen related they wanna make it as a "stand alone" movie, but in the end it'll be connected to others.

I might have the same feeling on my deathbed.

If I get a chance to write a Deadpool comic the opening scene will be like this....

At Lauren Shuler Donner's office....

Knock, Knock

Lauren Shuler Donner: Come in.

(Deadpool Breaks Down Door)

Lauren Shuler Donner: Oh my god! Wade wai-

Deadpool: (Pulls out pistols and starts shooting)BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

Deadpool: (Looks at reader) Satisfied!!!
