5-Disc DVD/Blu-ray Watchmen: Ultimate Collectors Edition Confirmed!

Warner Bros have released a promotional poster detailing what exactly the Ultimate Edition will contain...
Photobucket

Although its unclear what exactly will be spread across these 5 discs and whether this will be released in countries other than the US.

It was also reported earlier this week that the UK Blu-ray edition will have several more special features than the US edition due to it being released by a different distributor including Video Journals, Webisodes, Viral Videos and the Theatrical Cut of the film currently unavailable elsewhere as well as a Digital Copy exclusive to the UK so it seem possible that these features could be in the Ultimate Edition.

LEEE777 - 7/10/2009, 12:28 PM
so the only new content is that the Black Freightor is being cut into the director's cut?

i'm not sold man. especially since I have the Freightor DVD already.
Keven - 7/10/2009, 12:30 PM
i cant believe that the UK is getting so many more special features than the US-that NEVER happens!!
joshw24 - 7/10/2009, 12:38 PM
I'm blown away that they need 5 discs for Blu-Ray.

Those can hold up to 25GB...
TucsonRican - 7/10/2009, 12:41 PM
the book and the movie rocked...all performances rocked...rorschach and nite owl was superbly amazing!!!..well done snyder...brilliant...
Anil Rickly - 7/10/2009, 12:43 PM

Anil Rickly - 7/10/2009, 12:46 PM
KEV @ I liked UNDER THE HOOD more than the Black feightor, what about you??

Anil @ Hell yeah!!! ; )

Tucson @ I THINK ITS JUST FOR THE dvd set for the 5 DISC set!
LEEE777 - 7/10/2009, 1:16 PM
5 disc? jesus thats alot
superdog - 7/10/2009, 1:56 PM
5 discs seems kind of nutty. Just means they'll have 1 disc for the director/freightor cut, 1 for behind the scenes, 1 for Under the Hood and more behind the scenes and.......why the hell is there 5 discs?

@ Lee - yeah Under the Hood was pretty cool, but it also got kind of boring halfway thru. Freightor wins it for me now in the longrun cause it's faster paced.

Until they come out with more details I may have to pass on this Ultimate Edition.....The Director's cut that's coming out in like 2 weeks seems like it'll be definitive enough - and that the only thing missing would be the Freightor scenes implemented.....And cool it may be to have them in the Director's cut - I'm not sure paying up the extra money on an ULTIMATE EDITION - just to see an extra 20 minutes of cartoon added to the director's cut is worth it.

The other discs need to be better explained to make this set worthwhile....
Keven - 7/10/2009, 2:23 PM
I agree kev. 5 discs seems like a waste. I probly won't splurge for this either
superdog - 7/10/2009, 2:51 PM
Well, there could be all sorts of documentaries and interviews and stuff. Look at the LOTR special editions, those had 4 discs and all were well worth it.
Rorschach01 - 7/10/2009, 3:14 PM
While I'd like to see Black Freighter woven into the movie I dont see me getting this. The movie was by far the summers best, but I've been burned in the past with sets like this before. Pay out $40 dollars or more and only about a quarter of the content is worth seeing.
longbowhunter - 7/10/2009, 3:18 PM
Longbowhunter@ I agree

ror@ you have a good point, but the lotr were each like 3 hours long and filmed over years. I gotta think they had alot of extra stuff that lots of other movies wouldn't have
superdog - 7/10/2009, 3:41 PM
pass.
vonstallin - 7/10/2009, 3:45 PM
yeah - thing is - there may be extra documentaries etc....but Alan Moore wouldn't be involved....So I don't see there being too much of a big documentary etc without the creator himself being involved...and I mean - they could do one with Gibbons - but isn't that already going to be on the Director's Cut dvd?

Keven - 7/10/2009, 3:50 PM
holy balls thats alot
DonkeyPuncher - 7/10/2009, 4:11 PM
im getting this for sure
DonkeyPuncher - 7/10/2009, 4:13 PM
Rorschach01 speaks the truth. Granted not all movies require extended additions. But this one should be worth it. Just as long as they don't extend the love scene between Silk Spectre and Nite Owl...
BmanHall - 7/10/2009, 4:18 PM
i think that the directors cut will be enough for me - im not that interested in a pile of documentries (theres already loads on the directors cut) and commentaries - besides i already have Under The Hood and Black Frieghter so wouldnt want them again. as for frieghter being integrated into the movie-seeing as that was actually my least favourite part of the graphic novel im not intrested inpaying extra for that feature.
joshw24 - 7/10/2009, 4:21 PM
im gonna wait until a 6 disc set comes out. isnt this like the fourth dvd release for this movie. i was not impressed enough to spend what will probably be 80 dollars on this i was not a big fan of this movie compared to the novel.
bleedthefreak16 - 7/10/2009, 4:49 PM
I gotta say I'm with Keven on this.

5 disc Ultimate Edition seems like a whole lot of filler, and if you've already got most of the pieces, this really isn't worth it. The clever dick who waited, and will continue to wait, for this seems like the only one who will really make out on this deal.
BillyBlack - 7/10/2009, 5:07 PM
Well guys i am a fence sitter on this one ror makes a very vaild point. i have the box sets for lord of the rings with the figures and shit (im a collector). But 5 discs seems like a bit of an over load unless there devoting 2 discs to allan more which sadly we know will never happen! black frieghter woven in sounds pretty sweet but that being said if it gets realeased in Oz it will cost $120 [frick]ing bucks! the joy of down under lol
McStitch - 7/10/2009, 5:22 PM
TDK was better then this movie. But seriously this better be the Ultimate one. I don't wanna have to spend another $50 on 1 that's comes out 2 months later.
mativ16 - 7/10/2009, 5:32 PM
Gotta own this - no question.
HAQ - 7/10/2009, 5:37 PM
I have to admit I'm a bit of an Extra feature junky... but 5 discs! Sweet merciful crap... that's a lot of extras...

I'll probably buy it.
Xandera - 7/10/2009, 6:19 PM
Wasnt the End is Nigh Watchmen video game also suppose 2 be on it? im getting it for sure!
CloSeTNerD29 - 7/10/2009, 7:06 PM
@ Closetnerd

Yeah the PS3 version is supposedly on the blu-ray version...too bad that game licked scrote
CorndogBurglar - 7/10/2009, 7:25 PM
Corndog@ hilarious. Licked scrote. You know what else licks scrote? You guessed it SUPERMIKE
superdog - 7/10/2009, 7:38 PM
Superdog@ LMAO!!!!
Xandera - 7/10/2009, 7:47 PM
Yeah i never played it.. Heard it wasnt bad, but not amazing!
CloSeTNerD29 - 7/10/2009, 8:29 PM
5 Disc? I mean, I know the movie is long... but damn! ;)
Shadowelfz - 7/10/2009, 9:30 PM
I purposely didn't buy Tales of the Black Freighter because I knew they'd do this. But i'm bummed out because they aren't releasing the ultimate edition 'til flippin' CHRISTMAS! BOOOOO!
gibbyblaylock - 7/10/2009, 11:50 PM
i gotta say i'm gonna buy this even though i know that months later they will have the dragon special edition which will come with a figure of silk specter and she will have ball licking action buttons.lol
Remy83 - 7/11/2009, 3:19 AM
Watchmen better than TDK...yeah thats right
teabag - 7/11/2009, 4:55 AM
I ENJOYED BOTH TDK AND WATCHMEN...but heath's joker gives TDK the edge...haley's rorschach was immaculate also...i'd like to see haley as a dc villain also...maybe deadshot or deathstroke...i think he has the voice and the dark scowl down for a top notch villain
Anil Rickly - 7/11/2009, 7:03 AM
Watchmen was the better movie..TDK was the better film that had a dead guy in it...no offence to Heath
teabag - 7/11/2009, 8:19 AM
I don't know why everyone thinks 5 discs is so many. The Superman box set has 14!(7 movies, 7 discs of extras)
MatchesMalone - 7/11/2009, 9:37 AM
Whats the seventh superman movie??? dont say the Molemen!!!
teabag - 7/11/2009, 9:43 AM
2 versions of 1, 2 versions of 2, 3, 4 and Returns.
MatchesMalone - 7/11/2009, 9:56 AM
Gottya......worried it that B&W Superman and the Molemen movie
teabag - 7/11/2009, 10:15 AM
I actually did try to watch that once just 4 the f of it. It was... ...painful.
MatchesMalone - 7/11/2009, 11:07 AM
I managed it ...superman has trouble with a couple of midgets uuuh how times change
teabag - 7/11/2009, 11:42 AM
I'm totally buying this dvd set!!!
RolandOfGilead - 7/11/2009, 1:27 PM
Never saw the Molemen movie, but Matches let me in on a little secret...it sucked horribly!
RolandOfGilead - 7/11/2009, 2:55 PM
How is 5 discs a lot? This is practically a COLLECTION for chissakes.

1) Watchmen (Theatrical, DC, DC+ToBF)
2) ToBF/ Under Hood
3) Motion Comics
4) Extras
5) More extras, Digital Copy, End is Nigh Game, etc...

Hell, alot of stuff on Discs 1 and 5 prolly cant fit on 1 disc....
2sdaychicken - 7/11/2009, 9:52 PM
If this is coming out on blu-ray as well it could almost definitely fit on just one disc but then it wouldnt look as impressive so they'll use loads of discs, a big box and slap a huge price tag on instead!
joshw24 - 7/12/2009, 3:32 AM
Dam sociolists
teabag - 7/12/2009, 5:13 AM
i loved WATCHMEN i will but it no matter the price adn cant wait to see TOTVF it will be sooooo sweet
AndreiDent - 7/12/2009, 5:14 AM
to everyone worried what the content on the 5 discs would be, I give you this:
tales of the black freighter, under the hood, watchmen motion comic(all 12 issues),
as well as numerous featurettes/etc .......
this I found on line from bleedingcool ...
Check it out.
Sorry to anyone who bought the watchmen dvd's before. It looks like this 5-disc set will be the one to own.

-nice.

rawshark - 7/12/2009, 12:25 PM
While the idea of watching the movie with the Black Freighter story added where it belongs in the overall story is appealing, this is probably going to be a bit rich for me. Besides, I've already got the motion comic and the Black Freighter. I'll buy the regular director's cut DVD when it comes out, and that should be plenty enough for me. I do want to see what they're adding to this.

comicb00kguy - 7/13/2009, 7:30 AM
i will buy only for the chance to hear or see some other clue or nuance into the meaning and purpose of Mr.Moore. personally i enjoy picking apart the Watchmen to fill out how things may be for characters such as Dan and Lori in the future Ozymandias world.any thoughts?
undeadpool - 7/13/2009, 11:12 AM
the motion comic was a neat idea - but it's so lame guys. hearing the one guy do every single person's voice was hilarious. especially his back and forth lines between Spectre and Dan....lol....just read the graphic novel.......

the 5 discs all seem like a rehash and just a mega collection of all the loose parts that people like me already/and will own.

Next Tuesday it goes down and I'm out. Until they release more deliciousness and amazing NEW features in this Mega collection - it'll be forgotten.
Keven - 7/13/2009, 12:58 PM
Will the Ultimate edition being released in December be for Blu-Ray only or will it be released on normal dvd as well in December?
elenix - 7/20/2009, 7:11 PM
I'm gonna have to pass on the Ultimate edition. I didn't really care to much for the Black Freighter stuff when I read it in the comics, and it was intigrated. I felt that the movie minus that stuff, works by itself. I think I'm just going to get the Directors cut, and maybe the black freighter stuff as a standalone so I can actually see it as one body of work.
