UPDATE: JURASSIC WORLD Beats AVENGERS 2 With 2nd Biggest Domestic Bow Ever

Jurassic World really is a monster! Today marks the third day of its release, and the dino-sequel has already amassed a whopping $204.6M, setting a record as the second biggest domestic box office opening of all time. It's beaten Age Of Ultron, but the first Avengers is still #1... for now!

It seems people do still care about dinosaurs after all. Universal's Jurassic World has taken a bite out of its competition and raked in a massive $204.6 million on its first weekend of release stateside. This puts it ahead of Marvel's Avengers: Age Of Ultron and sets a record as the second biggest domestic opening in history behind The Avengers, which took in $207.4M back in May 2012.

But, many analysts believe that when the dust settles and Sunday's earning are totalled, Colin Trevorrow's exciting dino-disaster flick could knock Earth's Mightiest Heroes off the top spot and claim the title of reigning all-time U.S. opener. Pretty impressive for a very late instalment in a franchise many believed had lost its teeth!

We'll keep you posted on how Jurassic World does today, and whether it manages to bring down the mighty Avengers or not.

UPDATE: With around $307.2M accumulated overseas, and that $204.6M domestic take, the global opening is $511.8M — the first time a film has ever grossed more than $500M in one weekend.

These numbers are starting to lose some meaning, when the friggin' movie ticket prices keep rising.

What analysts say is that Universal is underestimating their expectations with those $ 204.6 million, VERY BIG CHANCE of Jurassic World have made around $ 212 million with the actuals numbers that will be released tomorrow.

With that, Jurassic World will beat Avengers (2012) and become the top-grossing domestic opening of all time.

That's awesome! I don't quite remember any movies shattering their projections from just a couple weeks as this movie has done. I know Hollywood loves to copy success but I wonder what lesson they can take from this. I don't know how many dinosaur movies you can have and I don't know how many 90's franchises could be revived. Maybe we'll finally get to see Waterworld 2!

Jurassic world was a fun movie. I don't think it deserved such a massive opening, but it was a lot of fun. More of a remake than sequel though. That kiss was....Meh haha

What the hell? This movie was terrific! Well-realized world, visually stunning, exciting and even a little scary... i literally flinched at the cliff scene. The cheese level was no worse than the first movie and WAY below the 2nd, and the kiss was no more out of place than any Indiana Jones or Star Wars kiss.

It's like y'all LOOK for problems because you don't want to like anything but cbms. I'm starting to think everyone on this site is either too old and jaded to enjoy movies any more, or so young they think it's cool to pretend they hate everything.
