Warner Bros.' New Line Cinema has hired veteran screenwriter Wesley Strick to pen the relaunch of the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" series.

The original Nightmare was written and directed by Wes Craven and released in 1984. The new project will keep the high school setting and delve deeper in the psychology of nightmares and Freddy Krueger himself.

A Nightmare on Elm Street stars Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Thomas Dekker, Kellan Lutz, Katie Cassidy and Connie Britton. It comes to theaters April 30, 2010

I think they got the feel of the old Nightmare on Elm Street; we'll have to see on April 30, 2010 if they hit the nail on the head.

I wasn't expecting such a radical change in Freddy's appearance. He seems to have been given a more realistic burn victim look, with smoother features, no lips, a nearly wiped away nose, and less pits in his face.

This look could be good or bad, it might take away some of the expressiveness of the old Englund style face or make him harder to read and thus more eerie, in his sardonic delivery. Either way Haley looks like he's going to give us another great performance.

I also see my man Clancy Brown getting in on the outraged father bit there.

HULK2099 @ Don't worry as soon as my article comes up in news i'll delete it! ; )

Man, this does look good though, though it'll get some getting used to having FREDDY as a short ass lol.

Dunno about his voice, not quite right but its cool, only thing not happy about is having the kid that plays IMPULSE in it (From Smallville), sorta lessens it a bit!

Sttill gotta (Hopefully) be much better that that friggin' FRIDAY the 13th remake arghh lol.

Still want FREDDY VS JASON VS ASH dammit NEW LINE!!! ; D

This could be awesome. I love the franchise, I own all the movies and I used to watch the TV show. One thing that really sucks about it is that I have to wait till next year to see it! But like everyone else I'm a little skeptical about the voice and the look. I need to hear more of his voice to get sold on that and I just really liked the old look even though it wasn't totally realistic. But what is realistic about a burned guy hunting you in your dreams anyways...

Good to see they kept some of the classic scenes like the glove in the bathtub and the hot blonde getting dragged across the ceiling. Looks rad. I just picked up all 8 cinematic appearances of Freddy on two volumes for 10 bucks apiece and it looks like I'll be adding one more when this comes out on dvd.

It looks exactly like the original with a bit more back story on the monster, as is the trend with these remakes. Completely pointless.

I bet a lot of old school Freddy fans will reject this take on things, but not me! I think it looks cool.

To me it kind of looks like they took out all the silly camp, which is novel in and of itself.
But here's something else: I can see from the little segment about Krueger's origin that maybe this time around he was falsely accused? Maybe he didn't actually do it? That's ... different if that's the case
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 9/28/2009, 11:24 AM
oh noes... it's the attack of Freddy Kovacs!!

lol even if this turns out to suck I am still watching it just because of Haley
Gweedo
Gweedo - 9/28/2009, 11:35 AM
@ror you are pointless. I'm just joking.

One of the big things I like about these remakes is the deeper back story. These guys have been killin' for year so the only thing worth seeing is what made them start killin'. Also I like the darker feel. I thought Bay and Rob have done a great job with their re-makes. Like Darth said they are pulling out some of the silliness from them although that's pretty much what Freddy has been all about. His funny personality. Of the three he actually still has a brain and can communicate and see the traps. I sense there will still be a little bit of that in this new one.

Wow Logan, why don't you tell us how you really feel.

I'm going to run out and see the midnight showing of this mutha. Totally stoked to get this franchise moving again. Maybe if it does good, since Bay has a hand in Jason and Freddy he will do a B.A. Freddy vs Jason 2! I'm crossin' my fingers.

@ kev

i'm with you 100% man!!!!!! this looks AWESOME!!! i loved the original nightmare movie, but the ones after that were so stupid and cheesy, they could hardly be called "horror" movies. it LOOKS like this one did away with the cheesiness, which i'm all for!!

@ logan

i'm confused, he looked like freddy to me, lol, just different, more real looking makeup for the burns. also, you saw a 2 mintue trailer, yet you think there's nothing new about it?? you can tell that from 2 minutes?? and doing away with the cheesiness is new. in fact, thats all i DIDN'T like about the old ones. if they weren't so ridiculously whacky and comical, they might've actually been scary movies.
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 9/28/2009, 1:03 PM
Logan X I can understand how you feel man.

I have watched em trash comic book characters that I used to like enough times to know what that's like.

The truth of the matter is that no matter how outrageously stupid the "interpretation" is, there are still people that will come back fromt he theater and say it was JUST GREAT. And if as a fan you don't like it then they will blame you for that or worse blame the fact that it's a comic or in this case a dated '80's horror flick.

And also no matter what hardliner fans feel about what is being done, the film makers will keep right on doing it, right or wrong it doesn't matter. As long as they get paid it's immaterial to them. They will screw you over, and if it lines their pockets they will happily do it a hundred more times without pause.

Essentially, we are powerless to do anything about it except discuss it. So at the end of the day all we can really do is accept or reject a movie for whatever reason we don't like it, just like with anything else.

Meh...Paranormal Activity is probably going to be scarier!

Besides it's disappointing that he doesn't have the voice?...

The look of the movie is fine, Haley looks and sounds good as Freddy.

But I'm awfully worried about that "is he innocent" possibility.
Part of what makes him a monster is that he was a killer/rapist of children before he's burned by the parents. It's also why he's so cruel and sadistic.
To make him a innocent, and wrongly accused, out for revenge changes the character completely.

It wouldn't surprise me if they did that, as hollywood is ruining all the characters from my childhood. Just part of the trend....

Can't wait for this, I think Jackie Earle Haley is the perfect choice to succeed Robert Englund.

I am not a big horror fan but since I was a kid ive always kept an eye on Nightmare as a franchise, just because Freddy is such an interesting character. This looks good, ill give it a go without a doubt when it comes out

F#%k!! It's a shame we hava to wait until next year to see this movie! I'm giving Haley a chance to fill the shoes of one of the movies that really scare the s#!t out of me so many years ago. Besides, once I shake THE HAND that once wore that glove!! Having Robert Englund in front of you saying "hi!" , well, that was amazing!

this has a good chance of being a good reboot. that's wat this is. hulk was the old hulk in it's reboot, and no one complained about that. i loved it, tho. anyways, jason and myers both sucked and this has a huge chance. haley was good as rorshach, and he'll definitely be good in this one.

this is a music video directors first film, so give this guy a chance...

I just hope it's not a suped up clone of the original like the 2007 Halloween was. I think they should take their own spin on Freddy possibly with the thing that he might be innocent OR even better maybe it's not his fault maybe there's something that took control of him like a split personality that kills all those childern, then when he dies his innocent personality get burried deep and his darker side takes control when he becomes the killer we all know and love.
I think Haley is an excellent choice because he was a scary Rorschach and that's a "good guy" imagine what he can do playing a psycho!

Change the record liltard, you sound like a complete yogurt.

Gweedo, by Rob i assume you mean that [frick]ing hack Zombie? Who completely missed the entire point of the character of Michael Myers by giving him a back story. Remakes have their place sometimes, but horror remakes are mostly pointless because we have seen everything they can possibly do with an evil monster murdering people in the original..which is about an evil monster murdering people! The only difference is, the originals tend to have some originality and style and the remakes for go that for gore and cheap jump scares. Im a huge horror movie fan, but look at the remakes we have had so far. Chainsaw. Balls. Best part of that movie was Jessica Biels ass. Friday, I'm not even going to comment on that shit stain. Halloween, as i said above, Zombie has no clue what he is doing. Now this. Whats next? Remakes for The Exorcist? The Shining? But now with more gore and tits..maybe we get to see just how much Reagen enjoys that crucifix eh? Arse.
