Gary Ross to Write & Direct Venom Spin-Off Film

Gary Ross is writing “Venom,” Columbia’s “Spider-Man” spinoff based on one of the villains from “Spider-Man 3,” as a potential directing vehicle. Ross is already writing “Spider-Man 4.”

In the comics, Venom is a gooey alien parasite that bonds with Peter Parker and later his newsroom rival, becoming one of the more popular villains in "Spider-Man’s" rogue gallery.

Topher Grace portrayed the character in the 2007 movie, which ended with both the human and the alien symbiote apparently destroyed in an explosion.

The studio had no comment on Grace’s involvement nor Ross' writing the project.

Avi Arad and Marvel are producing the movie.

i said yes to grace he was good for the short time he was in spiderman 3 and it has to be dark and no to carnage in the movie leave him for a spiderman movie since he has to be born there 1 to be shown in a venom movie

Venom is my favourite comic book villain ever, I really hope they don't screw this up, I hope they have a really big guy for brock.... like a wrestler or something so they can really do venom justice in this movie. And having Carnage in there would be just plain awesome.

@LEEE & Teabag: I don't know if they will be able to keep spidey if they show venom's origin, But i agree with you... NO GRACE.

@LEEE: Interesting theory... I'm hoping the symbiote survives and finds Eddie Brock Snr.. or they just reboot it. Either way i really wanna see a Venom vs Carnage scene.

@Inspace: I like your idea, that was my favourite Venom Mini-Series... The artwork was great and Venom looked really cool in that.

Does it really have to be Eddie,they could have Mac Gargan.They said they were connecting both films so in Spidey 4 Scorpion turns up and the lizard creates his formula,and after the credits you see Mac lose his armor and try to steal the formula that made him but mistakenly takes the symbiote,.(Sorry about the Grammer)

It might be an ok movie but its too early to judge until i hear some more about the story and cast. As long as theres no Topher Grace then we can be sure that the movie wont be completely awful! Still, I cant begin to imagine how they'llexplain the SPider-Man 3 [frick] up!

After what they did to Venom in SM3, I have my doubts about this movie!

Seriously, how could a bomb that went off right next to a regular person's face only give him scars, but it completely obliterates a powerful alien symbiote?!

No way should Gargan be Venom. Eddie is the definitive Venom in my book. And as others have said, it's way too early for Gargan. I want Scorpion in SM 5 anyways!

I had NO problem with Topher Grace playing Venom

Sure, I would of liked to see a much more taller and more musclar man playing Venom. The problem I had was that Grace was Venom for only 20 minutes in Spidey 3.


Anyway, I think it is foolish and stupid of the studio to make a Venom movie because it would be a box office BOMB. Save Carnage for a Spider-Man movie.

I think the a storyline similar to the Maximum Carnage storyline can save the Spider-Man franchise.

If Kraven is in Spider-Man 4 then
Spider-Man Franchise= RIP

I don't get why the studio is treating the Venom situation a like government secret.

InSpace: I actually like Gargan as Venom in the comc books but if the character were introduced in Spider-Man 4 (I personally hope so!) then I would rather he stick around as Scorpion for a while especially if we're going to see the Sinister Six in Spider-Man 6!

I hate the Spider-Man franchise. There are VERY few things I enjoyed about these films, and Venom was not one of them.

I love Topher, but as a fan, I feel he's not right for the role. He made Brock sarcastic and all humorous when in fact Brock is a frustrated man.

I'm not confident with Columbia owning this franchise.

Carnage could never be put in a PG-13 rated movie. He would be so watered down it would a joke. Venom vs Carnage with an R rating would be awesome, but who would see it besides the hardcore fans?

I just hope they decide to make it a horror movie. but they wont and i am sure Hugh Jackman will somehow make a wolvie cameo. Leave Topher Grace outta this one please. I like his acting skills a lot but he is not right for this role. Kraven would be a good tie in for a spiderman and venom crossover.

Kraven could hunt venom and end up in SpiderMan 5 hunting spidey too.

@InTyler- Damn good point about the pumpkin bomb. But isnt there different versions of them. Didnt one of the bombs vaporize some people in SpiderMan 1 during the balcony scene? either way , good point.

Topher's a good actor but was all sorts of wrong for Venom!

Bring in somebody else to play vicious Venom!

Assassin@, correct! It's nigh impossible to put Carnage
in a PG-13 movie!

Venom would be a great Movie yes they should make it Rated R. Yes they should have Wolverine Jump into it for about 5 minutes and yes Carnage should be killing as many people as possible.

Forget a cameo of other franchise's actors. Neither fox or sony will do in 1 houndred years. And not reboot. Since they planning installement for SM 5 and 6,they will use venom again in one of them,i suppose

SUPER DUPER AWESOME! Gary Ross is a brilliant writer and director. He will do a spectacular job writing and directing the Venom Spin-Off Film, just like he will do a beautiful job writing Spider-Man 4.

Tyler- Kraven "alone" sucks just as much as lizard does. But put them together along side spidey and you got your self an entertaining film! I'd love for Kraven and Lizard to be in Spidey 4, then have Scorpion and Cameleon(Kraven's brother) in Spidey 5 and of course finish spidey 6 with The Sinister Six!!!

They can't bring in Gargan, he don't even look like Venom, him and his dumb Thunderbolts crap.

It has to be Eddie Brock, they already introduced him, and bringing in Gargan is just gonna confuse people. Just like how some people call Wolverine: "The X-Man". Dangit, eventually people gonna start calling Venom the "Black Spider Guy"

Excuse me, why make a stand-alone movie about Venom? It just makes zero sense. Bring him back in Spidey 4 and do it RIGHT (no jazz dancing Tony Montero crap).

As for a stand-alone movie, I really want to see...

i know the plot of the movie. venom goes to a rape counselor to get solice after being sodomized in spider man 3. then after he works out all his emotional problems takes revenge on the rapers.

KEEP @ Cheers! An i like your idea about KRAVEN crossing over from hunting VENOM to SPIDEY in his movies, even if KRAVEN in VENOM in just a cameo it would be cool, it saves SPIDEY being anywhere near VENOM then, VENOM should be mainly a VENOM VS CARNAGE movie, that would be sweet!

Oh yeah he's gotta be in SPIDEY 4 even if its a real small cameo =

@ wards Have you ever watched the show Dexter? Hes a goddamn serial killer and he has a huge fan base and the show is phenominal. I do think if this was to work you are going to need to have special writing talent to write Venom so he can be embraced by the viewer or else this will be an epic fail. Good Venom Movie = Dope Genious Writer/Writers Oh and no Topher :P
