TMNT Being Fast Tracked at Paramount

Deadline.com's Nikki Finke is reporting that Paramount has put the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie on the fast track

Follow EdGross:
By EdGross - 8/19/2010
"I hear that Paramount has hired the writing team of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway for close to $1 million to reimagine the live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," she writes. "'The studio is looking at this as its next huge franchise, like Transformers,' a source just told me.... Paramount's Adam Goodman is fast-tracking and wants a first draft by October so the studio can take it out to directors right away. The speed is understandable since Paramount paid $60 million for the rights to make the movie."

The writing duo recently wrote a reboot script for Highlander, which Summit will produce and which will be directed by Justin Lin. Marcum and Holloway also wrote the first Iron Man.

I wish it to be based on Kevin Eastman's comic. It was great, and I loved how the turtles looked so Frank Miller. I don't want a child-pandering Transformers all over again. That should have been like G1, this should be like the original comic. Both mediums for that matter would be all too well for general audiences.
airbeyonder18 - 8/19/2010, 7:02 PM
I hope it's good. I've been waiting for a good TMNT movie for a long time.
EdGross - 8/19/2010, 7:03 PM
I thought the CG TMNT movie was excellent. Am I in the minority on that one?
Destroyer14 - 8/19/2010, 7:07 PM
@EdGross It was good, but it was lacking the Shredder. Without the Shredder, it's hard to have a good TMNT film.
jazzman - 8/19/2010, 7:08 PM
bring on the gritty and dark TMNT movie
Destroyer14 - 8/19/2010, 7:11 PM
I want this Shredder to appear.

jazzman - 8/19/2010, 7:15 PM
xBlaze96x - 8/19/2010, 7:17 PM
man u all never know how it could turn out so why say it is gonna fail....?
CorndogBurglar - 8/19/2010, 7:24 PM
@ destroyer

in Eastman and Laird's comics, the original TMNT, Shredder wasn't their worst enemy. In fact, he was only in a few of the early issues and thats it.
odie00 - 8/19/2010, 7:31 PM
yeah they killed the shredder if i remember. i have 4 of the original graphic novels somewhere. but yeah i want to see something similiar to the comic. the new TMNT was just ok. i remember they said it was going to be darker and it actually came out more kiddy. the first live action movie was more hardcore.
LEEE777 - 8/19/2010, 7:36 PM
FAST TRACK...

guyver48 - 8/19/2010, 8:06 PM
They should design the turtles to look like this guy's art project: http://www.fusedfilm.com/2010/04/net-crawl-possible-new-look-for-new-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles/

It would be sooo slick
Mileena16 - 8/19/2010, 8:06 PM
SWEETNESS!
@JJ- jeez contain yourself man ;P
wade1210 - 8/19/2010, 8:24 PM
the reboot should be like this

ecksmanfan - 8/19/2010, 8:38 PM
@Ed- You're not alone. I really enjoyed it. As weird as it sounds, I think the musical score from that film is incredible.
Christuffer - 8/19/2010, 9:37 PM
Awesome! I hope they go thru with this!

Michael Bay...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAASSSSE stay THE FUK AWAY from this movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You ruined my childhood already!!!
Tobuttica - 8/20/2010, 12:28 AM
Hey Fartman, why use the effing worse picture of Jason imaginable. Jason goes to Hell was terrible and the look they used for him was even worse. Ugh. If you would have used a different pic, I might have checked it out, but brought up some bad memories of this being the first Jason movie I watched in the theaters.

Oh, and if Michael Bay was involved in this movie, I'd go see it. I loved Friday the 13th re-whatever, Transformers, most of ROTF, and some of his other movies.

And RockNRollCC, how did he ruin your childhood? Did he go back in time and stick a broom in your bum? Your childhood is over. Was it so bad that Transformers is the only thing good that stuck out? Holy crap with all these douchebags that say he ruined your childhood. Beast Wars, Armada, and RiD ruined Transformers. Bay helped bring it back from obscurity so why not thank him for helping you relive what you loved about being a kid. The current movies are a helluva lot more entertaining that the first 9/10 of Armada, and all of Beast Wars, oh and Beast Machines, and that crap called Transformers: Robots in Disguise. Grow the f&ck up and be a man already!!
dancingmonkey08 - 8/20/2010, 2:23 AM
Im glad there is finally news on this. But I hope its not gonna suck as Bay is involved. Make this movie awesome! They are never gonna have a dark and gritty reboot that is close to the comics but I would even love a movie that is closer in tone to the earlier seasons of the modern day animated series. It was so well made...well, up until TMNT Fast Forward and that season killed it. It was as dark as a kids show could go at times. I mean Shredder got his head cut off by Leonardo in one episode (sure it was a robot body but he [or we] didnt know that at the time). But dont give Shredder the origin he has on the newest animated series. I didnt mind him being an Utrom in the newest series but stick with the original story of the Shredder.

I hope this new 2012 animated series is as good as the 2003-2009 animated series too!

Anyone else like the Turtles Forever TV movie that was on a while back? It was so good with the three different versions of the TMNT

lol@iron2jason
he probably would cast fox as Splinter and Shia laBoeuf s Casey Jones *shudder* stupid Bay

@EdGross
No, I loved it too, it was supposed to be a loose sequel to the original trilogy and it was a fitting end to the original franchise. Loved the animation, ninja fights and the voice work. It was just the villain and plot about the thirteen monsters sorta sucked (even though Patrick Stewart was great in it). There are a tone of other stories from the comics which could of been used without the need for an original plot. It was just a damned shame we will never see a sequel where the Shredder resurrects.

@Destroyer
Im sorry but I have to disagree with you there, there is plenty of other good villains that make a good TMNT movie. As Corndogburgular already said, he wasnt that important in the comics. Thats the one thing I hated about the movies and the animated series, Shredder was made the arch-villain of the TMNT when even the original creators of the comic never intended him to be all that important. Dont get me wrong, love the Shredder, badass villain, but there are other great TMNT villains. Shredder is just the most well known. He should be only in one movie in this new franchise. And hell yeah on the 2003-2009 Shredder

@ecksmanfan
You dont sound weird at all, the score was incredible. I got the soundtrack to it but it was a little disappointing that there is only two songs to do with the score on it and the rest are bands that had music in the movie (dont get me wrong, those songs were great too but I would have like a 2 disc set, one with score and one with all the bands). The two tracks from the score on it are great though, "I love being a Turtle" & "Nightwatcher"

damn right LEEE!
marvel72 - 8/20/2010, 2:44 AM
the turtles suck ass.

@ jazzman

if they looked like,what they look like in that picture you posted then awesome.

but they're not,so don't get to excited guys it will more than likely suck.
CorndogBurglar - 8/20/2010, 4:25 AM
What is with people? Michael Bay is not directing this. His production company is PRODUCING it. the article clearly says that they are going to shop it out to other directors.

I swear people don't even read the articles anymore.
Smolo - 8/20/2010, 4:35 AM
@Corn - Certain ppl just like complaining about everything. i.e. Grif :)
thatiscrazy - 8/20/2010, 5:28 AM
@EdGross

The CG one was the best out of all of them =D
CorndogBurglar - 8/20/2010, 5:28 AM
@ smolo

yeah, you're preaching to the choir buddy :)
CorndogBurglar - 8/20/2010, 5:30 AM
@ smolo

yeah, you're preaching to the choir buddy :) but even Destroyer has an editorial about this movie, and in the article he says Bay is directing it. I just don't get it.
thatiscrazy - 8/20/2010, 5:31 AM
@guyver48

That thing is ugly as hell. Its not Teenage Mutant Zombie Turtles. That dude missed the mark on that one.
Destroyer14 - 8/20/2010, 5:59 AM
Yes, I do know about the original comics. I just think that since the Shredder is their greatest nemesis, he should be in it.

@CorndogBurglar I changed that.

@dancingmonkey08 Turtles Forever is the greatest thing to come out of the TMNT franchise. I agree that Fast Forward was not very good. I liked Back to the Sewer. Especially the first episode, where all three Shredders of that series were fighting.
THEMRTERRIFIC - 8/20/2010, 6:05 AM
I wanna see Raphael and Casey BODYCOUNT!!
Christuffer - 8/20/2010, 6:10 AM

Colton - 8/20/2010, 8:19 AM
i did not know they were remaking highlander
jazzman - 8/20/2010, 8:31 AM
@deadpool72

we cant denie that Michael Bay does bring the action in movies but remember his not directing the movie hisjust the producer. if they made the TMNT like that image the movie would be great but i dont know what is their idea for the movie i hope they dont look crap.

@AlexDeLarge666

found the image on the net they look fricking sick :D
RIKSHAWRenegade - 8/20/2010, 8:50 AM
Thomas Jane should be the new Conner MacCloud in the Highlander remake.
RIKSHAWRenegade - 8/20/2010, 8:51 AM
TURTLE POWER!!!!!!
JerusalemJr - 8/20/2010, 9:17 AM
I really hope this doesn't suck.

As for Highlander, I vote for Kevin McKidd as Connor and Liam Neeson as Ramirez
Osiris - 8/20/2010, 11:32 AM
if you read the comics and then watch the first movie it is almost identical except that they flushed out Shredder a bit more due to him being a main villain in the 80's toon which was what brought on the movie in the first place.

in the comics Shredder dies at the end of the first issue but they never find his body, there is a massive rooftop battle just like in the first movie, Leo stabs Shredder in the chest but he doesn't give up and Don ends up throwing his Bow at him smacking him in the face knocking him off the building, all they find at the bottom is his gauntlet.

the 2003 series is pretty spot on too, but again flushing out shredder more for the fans of the 80's series, but everything else was just like the comics, April being a scientist, splinters capture by the Utrom and them traveling to another dimension to save him, why they made that god awful flash forward stuff and stopped following the comics is beyond me anyone who has read the comics loves that show for actually following source.

oh and TMNT was awesome!
RockNRollCC - 8/20/2010, 1:41 PM
@Tobuttica, chill the [frick] down!!! maybe i should explain.

alright, what i said was not quite right what i meant. what i meant to say was HE FUKED WITH TRANSFORMERS TO THE POINT I FEEL MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES OF THEM WERE SCREWED TO HELL! I loved Transformers! I loved Beast Wars! How the [frick] were those worse than ROTF?!! Yeah he might have brought them to the big screen, but for what?! Transformers 1: meh, it was ok. It got annoying tho after watching it a few times, but not as bad as ROTF. i can't stand to watch that all the way through! There's so many plotholes and cheesy ass dialog i could puke! How was that better than any of the 90s series?!

2nd off: i wasnt just talking about Transformers. Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street; i grew up with those horror movies. and to see Bay butt rape them with these shitty ass remakes today, i mean jesus christ!! still, he was only the producer, i understand that. but still, look how these horror remakes turned out when he was only producing! thats a scarier thought than the charaters themselves. Even if he produces this TMNT movie, i still fear hes gonna rip away another part of my childhood.

So @Tobuttica, i respect your opinion and all, but you don't have to be a friggin stuck up prick about it. god damn, wtf is up with the world these days?!

"Get busy livin', or get busy dyin'."
AsianAvenger - 8/20/2010, 5:30 PM
It is a Michael Bay production so I bet they're gonna have a HOT APRIL!!!! LIKE MEGAN FOX, LIV TYLER, KATE BECKINSALE, ROSIE-HUNTINGTON WHITELY HOTTT!!!
Tobuttica - 8/20/2010, 7:58 PM
@Wards, nobody shat on my cereal. I can just take only so much whining and complaining. Where did all these people come from. I remember this site as a great way to get the latest news on upcoming CBMs, and now it's just a place for people to cry foul about a movie that hasn't even been made yet.

What's up RockNRoll is effing douche bags that cannot stop whining like bitches. The whole G1 series had plotholes galore, so ROTF in essence was an ode to that, and Beast Wars was terrible. It was forced into the Transformers lore because at the time Transformers was a dying franchise and Hasbro said "Why not?" Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm St. Texas Chainsaw massacre, were only produced by Bay, meaning he didn't really do anything but throw money at it. Halloween sucked because of Rob Zombie, I thought TCM was decent. I loaved Friday the 13th because it was much, much better than the last 5 movies we got (part 7, 8, goes to Hell, Jason X, and that crap fest that was Freddy vs. Jason). I'll admit that Nightmare was crap and hope they don't make anymore of those. I'll also admit that the Transformers movies were not the best cinematic adventures that they should have been, and ROTF is not good, but to mess with childhood memories? Seriously? Pretty much every incarnation of Transformers has changed the characters. Why not look at these as different takes on the characters instead of just fukups?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was responsible for my wife and I being together, so I am extra skeptical about this movie, but I am willing to give it a chance, and if it's bad, that's all there is. It's not like complaining will wipe if from the face of the Earth. I can say it won't be as awful as the live action show from the 90's where they added a chick turtle. What was her name, Venus? WTF is up with the world these days? Anyway, I respect your opinion as well, but complaining about something that hasn't happened yet is just dumb. Judging the book by it's cover is ignorant and demeaning to both the book and the person doing the judging. I hope this movie is fantastic as hell. But even if it is, people will find a reason to complain about one aspect or another. The Dark Night, on the tops of most CBM lists, and praised by fans everywhere, fanboys find a way to call out the shit. They are just not satisfied.
dancingmonkey08 - 8/21/2010, 12:36 PM
@Destroyer

Yea, I liked Back to the Sewer too, it was a good return to the more of the feel for the series before Fast Forward, it was a pity it didnt get a couple more seasons
RockNRollCC - 8/21/2010, 2:43 PM
@Tobuttica don't blame me for all the fanboy obsessive complaining. if you haven't seen the rest of this site, it happens all the freakin time cuz everyone is so god damn picky!

i'm not saying that this movie will be a fail, i'm just saying Michael Bay is a fail! I just don't want him to f*ck up the Ninja Turtles as he did with the Transformers.

Even if Bay's just a producer, couldn't that mean he could do re-writes to the scripts or anything? (I'm more of a director, i have no idea what producers can or can't do.) He did with Transformers, but he was director, tho with TMNT he might want to do rewrites or something, which i really hope not. It's just when i see anything with Bay attached now, i get the same feeling you get when you see anything by Shyamalamadingdong these days (i've learned my lesson, i'm never seeing anyhting else by him.)

Other movies, such as X-Men, FF, Spidey, etc, i wait it out to criticize because usually, they take a different route. I.E Spider-Man. New cast, new director, most likely a new villain, and new story. I'm not judging anything now. i was appalled at the idea of a reboot at 1st, but now i'm just movin along with the flow. X-Men, is kinda different, but similar none the less. 1st Class-New director, with an exception of Singer since he's producing, new cast, etc. Sure, they're [frick]ing with the plot, characters, etc. Yes, i'm mad they left out Jean and Scott, and that the fact their continuity makes no sense at all, but I'm not judging anything because i haven't seen anything yet. They're taking a new direction, and i like Vaughn as a director, so we'll see... (tho, both Spidey and X-Men are at the hand of their companies, so thats what makes me uncertain).

Avengers, i can get over no Ed Norton and no Pyms, because it still has an all star cast, and Whedon directing.

But with anything attached to Bay (or Shyamalan), i just don't trust it turning out well >:/
Tobuttica - 8/21/2010, 11:27 PM
Okay, I can respect your opinion because you have explained it well, and intellectually instead of grif-like "it's gonna blow". That kinda crap is irritating, and I have noticed a lot of newer members that just come on to troll and whine. While I've enjoyed some of Shyamalan's movies, I must agree that he has dropped off substantially. After Unbreakable being so good, how could he f&$k up Avatar? The way that he did. Heh. Anyway, I do hope that Bay has learned from the $hitstorm that ROTF caused and gives the fans something that will help wash away the bad taste. While I somewhat enjoy ROTF, it did leave a sour taste and I need some redemption. I am hoping that Shockwave will give it to me and doesn't end up as a 'Fallen' type crap character. I'm guessing that the next set of TF movies will have a different flavor that will appeal more to the hardcore fans. Believe me when I say, if he, or his production company effs up Ninja Turtles, I will storm the fortress and burn some bastards. It won't ruin the memories of TMNT when I was young, but it would piss me off! I just feel it will get a better treatment from Bay as a producer than any of the crap that Uwe Boll does.
