SDCC '13: Tom Hiddleston On Loki Being A Force For Good

Actor Tom Hiddleston discusses the chances of Loki being redeemed as a force for good in Thor: The Dark World. We saw in the first teaser trailer that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) goes to Loki for help but does he actually receive it?

Said Tom Hiddleston in response to whether there's any part of Loki that wants to be redeemed, "I don't know if he's self-aware enough to know about what he wants or what he needs. His raison d'etre, his epithet is mischief. He lives for it. He lives for rebellion and wickedness, guile and unpredictability. I think to betray that - to let himself down in that regard would be a self betrayal." The interviewer opened up the conversation by asking about the end of the SDCC footage for "Thor: The Dark World" where Loki reportedly cuts off Thor's hand as he's reaching for mjolnir - there's online debate about whether he cuts off Thor's hand or kicks it away. Well, Tom made no effort to tell the interviewer she was incorrect about that scene so it's possible that Thor does indeed lose a hand in the film. With director Alan Taylor coming over from "Game of Thrones" it shouldn't come as a surprise that a handsome blond warrior loses a hand...if indeed that turns out to be the case.

Isn't it [frick]ed up that ppl care more bout Loki than Thor? I mean did u hear those chants? Tom IS Loki!
ArthurNumeriano - 7/22/2013, 8:17 AM
Poor Hemsworth. Tom rules his Thor movies.
TheManFromMars - 7/22/2013, 8:19 AM
So, Thor becomes Captain Hook?

If he truly loses a hand, I bet he will grow it back with magic before the movie ends.
JerBear - 7/22/2013, 8:20 AM
Ever heard of a vocal minority? The majority care more about Thor.
Chekkarma - 7/22/2013, 8:26 AM
Thor might lose a hand....Replaced by Destroyer hand or something similar perhaps?
blvdnoise - 7/22/2013, 8:26 AM
Lobs Thor's hand off? say whaaaaaaaaaaa??
Whiteandgold - 7/22/2013, 8:26 AM
Yeah he is going to most likely die in the movie.
charlie2094 - 7/22/2013, 8:28 AM
Think it'd be great if Thor really does lose his hand (some are saying Loki merely kicked his hand away from Mjolnir) just because it shakes things up and would help create an actual sense of danger to Marvels films, only thing it needs now. Like with Rises, we knew Batman was actually in danger and many suspected that he'd actually die in the film.

Though, he'll probably replace it/grow it back through magic or something before the movie finishes.

Yawn I am so tired of Loki!
Dev7 - 7/22/2013, 8:29 AM
It's sad but true, alot of ppl especially women care more for Tom's Loki than they do Thor.
Zarog - 7/22/2013, 8:33 AM

JoeMomma29 - 7/22/2013, 8:34 AM

Loki is not going to redeem himself.....He will turn on Thor towards the end of the movie etc.......
MrReese - 7/22/2013, 8:45 AM
Loki needs 2 be sent 2 the Isle of Silence if anything. He stays there till he makes a comeback & makes ppl look even more forward 2 him in future films.
JoeMomma29 - 7/22/2013, 8:46 AM
@ RealRemy

You seem so angry!!!!! Hey guess what it is just a movie!!!!!!
ekrolo2 - 7/22/2013, 8:48 AM
Hiddleston is a fantastic actor and the perfect Loki.... Just a shame hes kind of been portrayed as a complete pussy when it comes to fighting and even plotting to a degree which ruins his potential badass factor for me.
Ocelot - 7/22/2013, 8:48 AM
Too bad he cuts Thor's hand off.
AlexRival - 7/22/2013, 8:54 AM
I always forget about Thor in The Avengers, I just didn't feel like he got the screen time he deserved. Hopefully The Dark World gives us more Thor than we got in 2011 and 2012
JoeMomma29 - 7/22/2013, 8:55 AM
@ RealRemy

So kick rocks that is clever..... Awwwwww man you must of gone insane when you saw the version of Gambit on the big screen for the first time LMAO!!!!
CoulsonLives - 7/22/2013, 8:57 AM
I wouldn't be surprised if Winter Soldier steals the show...
upsidownman - 7/22/2013, 8:57 AM
I'm not a hater, but could we move on from Loki please? He's like the Lex Luther of Marvel.
MrReese - 7/22/2013, 8:57 AM
@TheRealRemyLebeau I'm sorry but Loki does overshadow Thor.We haven't even seen Thor in full force (hopefully that changes). They made him a betch & I liked Thor (1st film while many ppl on here call it average or w.e) Loki hasn't been full fleshed either but that's saying a lot seeing as how it's THORS movie & Loki outshines him.Thor doesn't fly as much & barely uses his lightning. He's a "Semi-God" that got punched by Hulk & didn't retaliate.I'm ready 4 Thor 2 shit on everybody. He's the Supes of the MCU & that's how they decide 2 use him? I mean it's cool but not Thor like at all.
MrReese - 7/22/2013, 9:03 AM
Greatest MCU villain goes 2 Loki 2 this date! I'm pretty sure Loki gets more of a standain ovay than Thor will even at Comic-Con.When I showed my friends (not cb fans) the new Thor trailer they were like meh....That is until they heard Loki's voice at the end & were suddenly intrigued by it.Loki makes the Thor films simply becuz Loki is [frick]in awesome! No shame in that!
JoeMomma29 - 7/22/2013, 9:04 AM
I am sure Thor will be good but not as good at Winter Solider.
MrReese - 7/22/2013, 9:05 AM
&Remy Thor didn't do shit.If the lighting made such an impact on stopping the Chitauri y the [frick] wouldn't he keep using it?? & again ur wrong (no disrespect) but Hulk stole the fighting scenes.Fact!
MrReese - 7/22/2013, 9:05 AM
@Remy*
JoeMomma29 - 7/22/2013, 9:05 AM
@ MrReese

You have a good point LOL! Hey he did put a fight with the Hulk!!!!!
MrReese - 7/22/2013, 9:07 AM
N trust me I'm not hating on The Avengers I'm hating on how Thor is handled.
MrReese - 7/22/2013, 9:09 AM
@JoeMomma29 I think he was trying 2 calm him down more than anything.Kinda wished that scene would have gone longer than it did.I mean it's freakin Thor vs Hulk!!
MrReese - 7/22/2013, 9:11 AM
B4 I leave I ain't tryin 2 start shit.Just my opinion I love Tom as Loki & Thor as Hemsworth.Hopefully they get fleshed out more.Love u guys!!! XD
JoeMomma29 - 7/22/2013, 9:11 AM
@ MrReese

I agree, the fighting scene between Thor and Hulk was the best (straight out of the comics). But in my opinion Thor should have done more like Hulk during the invasion due to his strength and powers, but they decided to focus a little bit more on IronMan.
J0RELLC00LJ - 7/22/2013, 9:13 AM
So, it'll get replaced with a "Destroyer" arm earlier than the comics...?

Won't lie, King Thor looked badass sporting it...
GUNSMITH - 7/22/2013, 9:13 AM
"I AM LOKI BURDEN WITH GLORIOUS PURPOHHHH OK I CAME IN MY PANTS...NOW PEOPLE....

SimyJo - 7/22/2013, 9:13 AM
MrReese - 7/22/2013, 9:14 AM
again I don't know y u bring up Bats or DC into this. It has nothing 2 do with this.Thor taking out the Frost Giants n making it look easy just makes me ask y the [frick] did he have such a hard time taking on the Chitauri??? Again not tryin 2 start no war.I'm just mad Thor doesn't have his helmet, doesn't fly like he's suppose 2 & doesn't use lighting as much either. It is all opinion & I respect urs but I'm just saying.
TheWolverine08 - 7/22/2013, 9:14 AM
Loki is incredible! But Thor is still a BOSS!
