The 'SUPERMAN Vs BATMAN' Film's Impact On 'ARROW'

"Arrow" executive producers Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim discuss how the recent announcement of a "Superman vs Batman" film impacts their quest to get Nightwing on the show.

"Arrow" dynamic-duo producer team Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenhem say that Dick Grayson's Nightwing is the "Holy Grail" of cameos for "Arrow's" writing team. However, the duo shared, "We've heard the fans and we're very well aware that they would like to see Nightwing and various other Bat-characters on the show. [But] that is a little bit out of our control, [and] I think [that movie] announcement made it a lot more out of our control!" Reading between the lines, it's probably a safe bet to say that "Arrow" will not be connected to DC Entertainment's budding cinematic universe. It really makes the most sense, as "Arrow" airs on The CW and if you look at the network's lineup of primetime shows, there's an element of "soap opera" in all their programs that just doesn't lend itself to extending into a much more realistic/natural fictional world like the one Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer created in "Man of Steel."

"After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine."

Still haven't checked out Arrow. Is it any good? or meh?
GoILL - 7/25/2013, 1:57 PM
@MrReese

I personally haven't seen it either. I would say it gets mixed reactions from what i've read/heard.
MarvelsDarkKnight - 7/25/2013, 1:58 PM
Arrow is great definitely better then that POS smallville t.v show at least we get to see him actually end a fight in this one
PaulRom - 7/25/2013, 2:00 PM
Arrow's a pretty good show (I'm up to episode 19 now). Flawed, but entertaining. I'd rather it stay separate from the DCCU though.
GizmoEl - 7/25/2013, 2:04 PM
If SHIELD is successful and gets more fans involved in the MCU, I'm willing to bet DC/WB will start to try and include Arrow in their DCCU
Jollem - 7/25/2013, 2:05 PM
the show is called "arrow" so that then a movie will be called "green arrow" :)
jlabatman - 7/25/2013, 2:06 PM
Damn shame, wanted to see Nightwing!
sameoldthing - 7/25/2013, 2:09 PM
It's not great but it's good fun..has potential to grow.
I wish they would stop playing games & stop calling him "the vigilante" & call him Green Arrow.

The DCU actually has a character called VIGILANTE and would be cool on the show but not if they keep calling Oliver that name.

They call other characters by their names such as Deadshot.
Call him GREEN ARROW..any reason not to is garbage.
MrReese - 7/25/2013, 2:17 PM
@GoILL Good shit.

I'll prolly check out the pilot later on 2night.
SeaSerpentine - 7/25/2013, 2:18 PM
I'd like to see that Green Arrow "Supermax" movie get made sometime.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 7/25/2013, 2:21 PM
This show needs to be far away from Man of Steel
JediPhilosopher - 7/25/2013, 2:22 PM
I can't believe how the CW is willing to take superheroes and make their stories into drawn-out soap operas. Or how many people get so drawn into them. It makes me sick.
DCNY - 7/25/2013, 2:22 PM
Its a superhero show on the CW. Did anyone think it could fit with the hyper-real DCU cinematic universe?

I'm glad they came to that conclusion.
MightyZeus - 7/25/2013, 2:23 PM
Yes. I'm so glad Arrow is not apart of the DCU.
Bodwulf - 7/25/2013, 2:23 PM
None. For never the two shall meet.
Brainiac13 - 7/25/2013, 2:24 PM
Good to hear!

Lanny - 7/25/2013, 2:24 PM
They just revealed in the season 2 trailer that he will stop calling himself the hood and will officially take the name of Green Arrow.
wcwpoet - 7/25/2013, 2:27 PM
Damn no matter the medium Archers get no respect.
thewonderer - 7/25/2013, 2:32 PM
There were tons of people praising the show while it was on.

Now these threads are full of haters who haven't even given the show a fair chance.

Screw all y'all, Arrow rocks
ProfOJ - 7/25/2013, 2:33 PM
He should be the burt ward dick greyson....just with the costume spray painted black and blue....or the eighties version with the giant collar and pony tail....either way it should all build up to the line....holy crap green arrow I forgot my shark repellent bat spray!!!!lol
Tevii - 7/25/2013, 2:34 PM
JediPhilosopher - yes because comic books arent drawn out soap operas in their own right. episodic storytelling is episodic storytelling, whether its a soap opera or superheroes
MercSoul - 7/25/2013, 2:36 PM
jumpingtheshark - 7/25/2013, 2:36 PM
@sameoldthing If you watch the preview for season 2 released at Comic Con it looks as if he is going to finally be called "Arrow" or "Green Arrow."
DCNY - 7/25/2013, 2:36 PM
We need a different Green Arrow in a Justice League movie (probably sequel).

Charlie Hunnam anyone?

BlueHawaiiSurfer - 7/25/2013, 2:42 PM
I started watching Arrow for the first time last week and was pleasantly surprised. It's a bit corny, but not in a bad way and the stuff they get right...they really hit out of the park for a TV show. Looking forward to catching up so I can watch season 2 in real time.
Neonzel - 7/25/2013, 2:43 PM
Thank you for writing Superman vs Batman instead of Batman vs Superman.
JULEZ13 - 7/25/2013, 2:50 PM
Good. This show shouldn't be anywhere NEAR the DCCU!

The show is hard to continue to watch... It's impossible to watch the entire season in a week cuz you'll just lose interest.

I'm just watching it because I want to see Manu Bennett...

Plus, the overtly "realistic," Nolaneque style definitely wouldn't fit with the new DCCU.
CaptainPresley - 7/25/2013, 2:51 PM

Did I miss something? I didn't read anywhere that someone from the show or the studio said "Arrow" is not part of the DCCU. Just because they can't touch some of the main Batman characters, only means they want them to be fresh and without baggage for the films. That tells me they want continuity. And for those uninformed, Oliver will be called Arrow in season 2 and Green Arrow in Season 3 or later.
Jhuntdaprodigy - 7/25/2013, 2:53 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if the Justice League movie only uses Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Latern. The rumors say it will just be those 5 at least. Really that would probably make things easier, that's 2 characters less to try to balance screen time between. I don't think DC will even use Green Arrow in the DCCU. Having 2 Green superheros may not be something they would wanna do, and Marvel also already has an archer on their team. I will say if they do that, then certain characters will already be established in that world. Huntress, Deadshot, Deathstroke, Firefly, Royal Flush Gang, Count Vertigo, etc. are already existing then. Some dead, and some wouldn't be that usable in the DCCU because of the "realistic" way they've been characterized. Realistic as in, not nearly as powerful as their comic incarnations.
JULEZ13 - 7/25/2013, 2:54 PM
After watching half of season 1, you can tell that some of the writers on Arrow were a part of Green Lantern... Take that as you will.
sintzu - 7/25/2013, 2:57 PM
i really hope snyder/goyer don't mess the movie's story up cause from what i read at cosmic book news they wern't planning any team up movie and the reason we'r getting one this soon is cause wb wants to get them out to the big screen as fast as posible wich could effect the movie in a bad way story wise

and it's a shame snyder dosen't have the same power over the studio that nolan has cause if he did we wouldn't be getting this so soon and insted would get a man of steel sequle that buldes on the first one insted of putting batman in the spot light to get extra box office $$$
Jer3miah - 7/25/2013, 2:58 PM
Well, they sure hit the nail on the head. CW really does go after that soap opera bullshit that makes their shows f*cking pussy-esque. Ugh, and they must be forced to always go that over emotional route. The one downside to the show, I'd say.
Logan276 - 7/25/2013, 3:04 PM
For the best really, Arrow doesn't have the budget to maintain the same quality that a 200m DCCU movie does.

Also I think it works out better for Arrow anyway, being part of the DCCU would only limit the amount of DC characters the show could introduce.
StrangerX - 7/25/2013, 3:05 PM
Arrow is a good show. It would be fun if they tried something new and introduced the new Batman in the show to get some more hype for the movie. Wayne and Queen
TheAmarilloBlack - 7/25/2013, 3:06 PM
@Anno
Exactly right.

ARROW doesn't need Bat-characters, Nightwing needs his own show.
superotherside - 7/25/2013, 3:08 PM
Why? Arrow is awesome. DC needs to step up their game cause Marvel has a show that's going to be connected so to compete I'm sure this will change.

Besides, I doubt they'll want to do two different Deathstrokes.
patrat18 - 7/25/2013, 3:16 PM
arrow is a damn good show marvel fan probably don't like it because marvel has no live action shows. i do want to see agents of shield, but don't bash arrow until you've seen it.
thewonderer - 7/25/2013, 3:16 PM
People need to stop judging writers of bad CBM films

You all do know the guy who wrote the screenplay for X Men Origins Wolverine showruns and writes Game of Thrones?
FordEl - 7/25/2013, 3:17 PM
I thought it would be cool if it was in the same universe.
