A week ago, comic book movie fans were shocked to learn that Edgar Wright ("Shaun of the Dead"), who had been developing Ant-Man since 2006, had left the project which was to begin filming very soon. Since then, rumors have circulated that Marvel Studios did a last-minute rewrite of the script that Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish had written and what came back was a more generic script. That supposedly angered Wright enough so that he walked away from his passion project, Ant-Man.

Besides speculating as to why Wright departed people have been wondering who might step in and direct Ant-Man. El Mayimbe, who has been on a hot streak with his scoops of late, has news that Marvel Studios Co-President, Louis D'Esposito, who also directed the Marvel one-shots Item 47 and Agent Carter, is looking like the strongest candidate at the moment.

Marvel's "mite"-iest hero will hit theaters July 17, 2015 courtesy of director Edgar Wright, from a screenplay Edgar co-wrote with Joe Cornish. The film stars: Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. The cast also includes: Evangeline Lilly, Michael Peña, Corey Stoll, Patrick Wilson and Matt Gerald.

He's vice president of Marvel Studios?
Reasonnnn - 5/29/2014, 7:31 PM
And just like that...interest is dead for me outside of the film being in the MCU.

Ugh i'm still sad over Wright being canned
dellamorte1872 - 5/29/2014, 7:34 PM
JOE DANTE. Idk I wouldn't pick this guy.
LongDuckDong - 5/29/2014, 7:34 PM
MrCBM - 5/29/2014, 7:36 PM
I'm glad Edgar Wright left. Now he can direct BANNAMAN! Bring it!
MrCBM - 5/29/2014, 7:37 PM
But in all seriousness, as much as I love & trust Marvel. I feel they're just picking a "yes" man. I hope it turns out for the best but you just never know.

Scrap the picture Marvel!
dellamorte1872 - 5/29/2014, 7:39 PM
Lol it was too bigoted @ pasto
DeusExSponge - 5/29/2014, 7:40 PM
So uh, is this a good choice? I liked the Agent Carter one shot but I don't know if the guy can direct Ant-Man. Seriously wished Edgar Wright didn't leave, stupid creative differences!
dellamorte1872 - 5/29/2014, 7:40 PM
Fascists love to sensor or criticize dude
KallarkKent - 5/29/2014, 7:42 PM
Interesting, I believe he also directed the Item 47 one shot.
dellamorte1872 - 5/29/2014, 7:42 PM
There's lot of special effects work in this film, I don't think mr agent carter could do it ANY justice.
AlexanderLykins - 5/29/2014, 7:43 PM
Outdated script. Don't like it? Blame Edgar Wright.
SpoonWielder - 5/29/2014, 7:44 PM
Dude, get Jon Favs to do it.
CaptainObvious - 5/29/2014, 7:45 PM
I'll take an Edgar Wright film over some generic Marvel movie thrown together.
dellamorte1872 - 5/29/2014, 7:45 PM
Sensor ship rears it's ugly head @pasto
TheOverlord - 5/29/2014, 7:45 PM
Great producer. Not a good enough director for this. Don't [frick] this up, Marvel.
Jollem - 5/29/2014, 7:46 PM
Ignition - 5/29/2014, 7:46 PM
His tweets read more like his sources say a new director has been chosen, not that Esposito is the strongest candidate. He calls that a guess three times.
dellamorte1872 - 5/29/2014, 7:47 PM
Dude I don't understand? Pasto was acting fine just now and it wasn't really a bad article. I'm confused, why the hate dude?
ezio619 - 5/29/2014, 7:50 PM
im still dissapointed in wright leaving..its just very dissapointing..im still optimistic about this because it has a great cast and a good idea ..i just hope they hire a good director who can give us a good film..it just wont be with edgars wright unique style and thats dissapointing.....goddamn it....i was not concerned at all for this a bout a week or so ago but now its the only thing im worried about coming out of the MCU camp, im loving the guardians trailers and hopefully it is successful and good..the netflix shows look great, avengers age of ultron sounds great even though it does seem a little overcrowded but i think whedon will be able manage it all
Jollem - 5/29/2014, 7:51 PM

Ramiel - 5/29/2014, 7:51 PM
Go Wright or go home!
KallarkKent - 5/29/2014, 7:52 PM
It would be an interesting choice, he has been the executive producer of all Marvel films produced to date, and has a lot of experience as first assistance director. Maybe is about time Marvel gives him a chance at directing a flick.
AlexanderLykins - 5/29/2014, 7:52 PM
This is certainly a black mark for Marvel Studios. The movie will likely struggle.
CharlesLord - 5/29/2014, 7:52 PM
D'Espisito makes sense cuz hes in house and if everything is already prepped, he can cleanly just go and execute.
AlphaKail - 5/29/2014, 7:52 PM
Without Wright this movie seems kinda [frick]ed
ezio619 - 5/29/2014, 7:54 PM
it is a guess so he has not been contacted or gotten confirmation from his sources ,i would even go with james gunn at this point, even though its not happening, also speaking of gunn..he had an interesting tweet...

Waking up to a bee swarm of complete bullshit rumors on all sides. Happy Thursday!

AlexanderLykins - 5/29/2014, 7:54 PM
It's still going to be tough though.
jlabatman - 5/29/2014, 7:56 PM
May well go with someone who is familiar with the MCU
ezio619 - 5/29/2014, 7:56 PM
im thinking or my gut feeling is that we might get a new director announced tomorrow.....i was thinking phil lord and chris miller would be good for this but thats probabaly not gonna ahppen
AlexanderLykins - 5/29/2014, 7:57 PM
MCU or die!
TheLokey1 - 5/29/2014, 8:00 PM
I would much prefer the guy who directed the all hail the king one shot. Not a fan of the Esposito directed shorts
MARVELFAN1995 - 5/29/2014, 8:00 PM
He could surprise us! We all said the same shit when Marvel hired the Russo brothers to direct TWS, and look how that turned out!
ezio619 - 5/29/2014, 8:00 PM
marvel probably has their new director already..they are waiting for the right time to announce it
ezio619 - 5/29/2014, 8:03 PM
they arent gonna scrap this..they put a lot of money into it already so no thats not gonna happen
AlexanderLykins - 5/29/2014, 8:05 PM
So what's the end game? Break even?
TheAbaryMan369 - 5/29/2014, 8:05 PM
I have a feeling Marvel is going to hire Shane Black.
ezio619 - 5/29/2014, 8:06 PM
i still expect this all to be a long bad dream..but its not.. i still hope they stick with his script..i personally like the idea wright had and the casting of paul rudd as scott lang cause scott is a regular guy even though he is a thief turned hero and rudd gives the everyman vibe and regardless of the direction of the character...michael douglas hank pym is cool casting,i didnt expect to see actors such as Robert Redford ,Glenn Close, James Spader and Michael douglas back to back in films like these
