Director Rawson Marshall Thurber Passes On Marvel's ANT-MAN

Dang, Marvel is having a rough couple of weeks with their next tentpole, Ant-Man. First, Edgar Wright ("Hot Fuzz") walks away, then Adam McKay ("Step Brothers") passes and now Rawson Marshall Thurber ("We're the Millers") has rejected Marvel's offer.

The website, thisisinfamous.com, is reporting:
Earlier today, we scooped that Rawson Thurber had been offered the job in the hopes of settling down the movie’s rocky road to production and getting things back on pace to hit that July 2015 release date Marvel is still dead set on. Unfortunately, the ANT-MAN nightmare for Marvel continues, as sources tell us Thurber has indeed passed on the film, sending the studio right back to the drawing board to find someone actually willing to touch this movie with a 10-foot pole.

As you know, Edgar Wright ("At World's End") spent many years working and reworking the script for Ant-Man. He even shot some test footage which was viewed at Comic-Con, and eventually leaked online. It earned some high-marks from fans and interest in the diminutive hero was growing. Then, things went, real bad. Marvel decided to throw a wrench into production, supposedly having an in-house writer polish Edgar's script. The changes left Wright quite upset and he split from the project. Since then, several directors have been named as possible replacements. Adam McKay, who directed Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, was close to taking the gig but talks brokedown. And now that Thurber ("Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story") has taken his name out of the running some of you might assume that another rumored choice, Ruben Fleischer ("Zombieland") would move to the head of the class. That's probably not the case either as Fleischer is said to be in talks for Ghostbusters 3. Looks like Marvel will have to go to plan C, whatever the hell that is.
Marvel's "mite"-iest hero will hit theaters July 17, 2015 courtesy of director Edgar Wright, from a screenplay Edgar co-wrote with Joe Cornish. The film stars: Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. The cast also includes: Evangeline Lilly, Michael Peña, Corey Stoll, Patrick Wilson and Matt Gerald.

Reasonnnn - 6/3/2014, 6:53 PM
The report says that it was the Disney execs, not Feige, who had the last-minute decision to change the [frick]ing script ugh
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 6/3/2014, 6:53 PM
I don't think some of these director's believe that a character named Ant Man can or will work and that's why directors are turning this project down.
WinterSoldier33 - 6/3/2014, 6:54 PM
Wow, this is sad for marvel
Reasonnnn - 6/3/2014, 6:54 PM

Well, we all know how this thread is gonna go. I'm out, bye guys.
AlphaMasterFlex - 6/3/2014, 6:55 PM
This movie needs to be postponed indefinitely until Marvel can figure something out, no good will come from a rushed product. It was all groomed to be Edgar's vision and with him gone it's just a [frick]ing mess and no one wants to just step in last minute and pretend to know wtf is going on.
ALegendaryPanda - 6/3/2014, 6:55 PM
This is just incredible.
DeusExSponge - 6/3/2014, 6:55 PM
Damn, this is not looking so good for Ant-Man or Marvel! Someone do something about this already! Intervention is needed!
ezio619 - 6/3/2014, 6:55 PM
oh ..i just read the ruben fleischer thing..damn.. well if they do scrap this film( which i dont think they will) but if they do..i think they should just release avengers age of ultron next year..it will be a nice change of pace for the GA to have two superhero films next year in Avengers 2 and FF.. and start phase 3 with Cap 3..so that way no movie such as dr strange or black panther is rushed out imo
ScorpioRisin - 6/3/2014, 6:56 PM
DaVinci31 - 6/3/2014, 6:56 PM
Don't disappoint me, guys.

Pasto - 6/3/2014, 6:56 PM
This thread will be glorious.
CinemaHero - 6/3/2014, 6:56 PM
Huh. What is up with this movie?
Granted, even though I like the character, I can easily see that "Ant-man" is an REALLY silly movie idea, but this thing really seems to have something about it that NOBODY wants to touch...

ezio619 - 6/3/2014, 6:57 PM
Reasonnn-idk.. the rumor now is that edgar wright is considering doing Kolchak: The Night stalker as his next project...which is being produced by disney so if its true.. then i dont think things may be as bad as some people think it is
antman8o8 - 6/3/2014, 6:57 PM
just have Jon Favreau do it ala Iron Man direction.
Melkaticox - 6/3/2014, 6:57 PM
This may end up being scrapped...probably for the best, no one wants a rushed production.
Sad, only one Marvel movie in 2015 :'(
Starfox - 6/3/2014, 6:58 PM
SMH Just bring Wright back and call it a day. Obviously no one likes your script changes Marvel. ;)
AlexanderLykins - 6/3/2014, 6:58 PM
Directed by Kevin Feige.
Kurne - 6/3/2014, 6:58 PM
So Edgar screws over a bunch of characters and leaves, Marvel apparently [frick]'s up the script and nobody wants to pick up the pieces? Come on.
DrDoom - 6/3/2014, 6:59 PM
Jollem - 6/3/2014, 6:59 PM
WHERE YOU AT, FEIGE?

man up and explain what happened
SuperCat - 6/3/2014, 6:59 PM
I give up. Just kill it.
Pasto - 6/3/2014, 6:59 PM
Show me what you're working with trolls! Both DC AND Marvel! Gimmie something good!
ALegendaryPanda - 6/3/2014, 6:59 PM
I'm starting to think they should take back their original November 2015 release date...
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 6/3/2014, 6:59 PM
Said it before and I'll say it again,Hank and Janet should've been introduced in one of the Phase One films, like Thor, and then part of the team in The Avengers. It's all [frick]ed now. That's what happens when you a certain director too much freedom and free time.
ezio619 - 6/3/2014, 7:00 PM
starfox-what if...its not the script changes..I KNOW RIGHT!!.it could be something else..these guys might not want to come in and rush a product or maybe they have other films..nothing has really been confirmed..some reports are more plausible then others but still..
Highflyer - 6/3/2014, 7:00 PM

I haven't heard any good news regarding this movie in a while.
Zickafoose - 6/3/2014, 7:00 PM
They will probably push it back. Avengers will make enough for Marvel in 2015 anyway.
AlexanderLykins - 6/3/2014, 7:00 PM
Scrap the picture! You're going to lose money anyway Feige!
Sxcory - 6/3/2014, 7:01 PM
Wonder if Wright gets the job back again. Would be cool if the directors banded together and helped Wright out.
