In addition to the episodes of a new Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm and Disney continue development of multiple stand-alone movies that will offer new stories beyond the core Saga. The newest director to come on board is Josh Trank.

"We're thrilled to welcome Josh into the family," says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. "He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX."

Trank states, "The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time."

Trank captured imaginations worldwide with his critically lauded directorial debut Chronicle, a fresh and engaging take on the superhero genre. Trank is currently at work on The Fantastic Four for 20th Century Fox.
CHRONICLE is a 2012 American science fiction film directed by Josh Trank in his directorial debut, and written by Max Landis based on a story by both. Three Seattle high-school seniors, bullied Andrew (Dane DeHaan), his cousin Matt (Alex Russell) and more popular Steve (Michael B. Jordan) form a bond after gaining telekinetic abilities from an unknown object. They first use their abilities for mischief and personal gain, until Andrew turns to darker purposes.

blackandyellow - 6/4/2014, 9:10 AM
Clutch your pearls, boys. This will be an entertaining thread.
ezio619 - 6/4/2014, 9:12 AM

JordanKing - 6/4/2014, 9:13 AM
What a twist! :O
Reasonnnn - 6/4/2014, 9:13 AM
@ezio Yeah, it's a pretty solid film; wouldn't say great though. It sort of gets ludicrous in the 3rd act when it comes to ways of incorporating someone recording the said footage. DeHaan and Michael B. Jordan are great though.
ndwwrestler2 - 6/4/2014, 9:14 AM
JJ Abrams, Gareth Edwards, and now Josh Trank. Disney ain't messing around.

Chronicle was a good movie, Trank is getting too much hate for a movie that hasn't even come out yet.
ALegendaryPanda - 6/4/2014, 9:14 AM
HOLY [frick]ING SHIT! J.J. Abrams, Gareth Edwards, and Josh Trank all doing Star Wars??! Wow!
cipher - 6/4/2014, 9:14 AM

Mrcool210 - 6/4/2014, 9:15 AM

Jollem - 6/4/2014, 9:15 AM
whoa! nice!
NovaCorpsFan - 6/4/2014, 9:17 AM

You wouldn't think it's found footage. Trank uses the camera brilliantly.
JoJo1982 - 6/4/2014, 9:18 AM

ezio619 - 6/4/2014, 9:20 AM
ndwwrestler-yeah, he is getting hate because of the direction they are taking the FF, more younger etc.i am indifferent towards the FF reboot right now but it has a good director and a good cast, just not a big FF fan,i respect them as characters but i have never really cared for theme ven though i LOVE Dr Doom ,i think it will be good though
ALegendaryPanda - 6/4/2014, 9:20 AM

Guess I missed the Edwards news. Doesn't surprise me though, I just stumbled across the "Brolin Thanos" article from a few days ago. Damn you graveyard shift! I miss all the good news sometimes.

So are Abrams Edwards and Trank doing one part each of the same trilogy? Or are they doing separate individual stories within the same universe?
Vegeta - 6/4/2014, 9:20 AM
I wasn't expecting this...

BenjiWest - 6/4/2014, 9:22 AM
They should wait and see how well FF is made. Or not made.
Solitario - 6/4/2014, 9:22 AM

ndwwrestler2 - 6/4/2014, 9:22 AM
@ezio619 Truth be told, I'm not a FF fan either, but I do wish they would stay true to the source material.

Although if it's a good movie, then I'm fine with it. If it sucks, I'm going to bitch like everyone else.
KnobGoblin - 6/4/2014, 9:23 AM
What is with this guy? Chronicle wasn't that great. Most of it was an Akira rip-off.
Jollem - 6/4/2014, 9:23 AM
Asterisk - 6/4/2014, 9:24 AM
That is fantastic news. Disney is actually letting filmmakers experiment in this world and that is the ultimate dream.

Somebody give the keys to a big tried and tested director like Spielberg,Ridley Scott,Tarantino.
I'up for this but still would love to see an established vet take it on.
AXE - 6/4/2014, 9:24 AM

yeah why not, not gonna judge until I see the end result
Nomis - 6/4/2014, 9:25 AM
This guys is over hype a bit. 'Chronicle' was good but... it wasn't great!

And what he doing with the Fantastic Four is criminal!
JoJo1982 - 6/4/2014, 9:26 AM
Soo Trank will have 2 scifi adventure movies under his belt
TheAmbassador - 6/4/2014, 9:27 AM
Heh, guess I should've checked the article. Almost positive that official release was edited in after my first post. Anyways....

I've never been a huge SW fan. Not my generation. Grew up with the re-releases in the mid 90s, but none of the movies really caught me the way kids of the late 70s early 80s got hooked. Obviously the trilogy I grew up with was muddled ass, so that didn't help the matter either.

Although, now knowing that they're expanding the universe has me somewhat interested to say the least. It's even more interesting that Disney are tapping into some of the more talented Sci-Fi directors out nowadays. Like someone said earlier, Disney aint messin around this time, and they certainly don't be seem to be bringing this franchise back for the hell of it.
CaptainAmerica31 - 6/4/2014, 9:27 AM
[frick] yea, director of the acclamied Chronical? Hell yea!
Philvis - 6/4/2014, 9:27 AM
So what role will Jordan be getting in this???
ezio619 - 6/4/2014, 9:27 AM
also like gareth edwards,i like that theya re going for new ,young blodd directors for these films, its awesome imo!!
Ranger14 - 6/4/2014, 9:28 AM
Not a big fan of Trank. Didn't care for Chronicle at all, but I'm not a big Star Wars fan either, so I guess it rightly doesn't matter.
third3ye - 6/4/2014, 9:28 AM
So basically what you're saying is... we're getting biracial siblings.
