Production illustrator and storyboard artist, David E. Duncan, worked as an animatic artist on the 2008 Marvel film, The Incredible Hulk. He's recently uploaded an animatic titled, "Airliner Fantasy." It's of a non-scripted scene for The Incredible Hulk that director Louis Leterrier dreamt up. The scene involves Betty, played by Liv Tyler ("The Lord of the Rings"), having a scary daydream in which she envisions her and Bruce (Ed Norton) on an airplane. During the flight things get a little bumpy due to turbulence and Bruce looses his cool and the Hulk is unleashed. You can watch the video by clicking on the Vimeo player below (no embed). You can also view the storyboards that I screengrabbed.

"The Incredible Hulk": Unproduced "nightmare" scene, created by director Louis Leterrier, not scripted.

Academy Award® nominee Edward Norton stars as scientist Bruce Banner, a man who has been living in shadows, scouring the planet for an antidote to the unbridled force of rage within him: the Hulk. But when the military masterminds who dream of exploiting his powers force him back to civilization, he finds himself coming face to face with his most formidable foe: the Abomination – a nightmarish beast of pure aggression whose powers match the Hulk’s own! Also starring Liv Tyler, Oscar® nominee Tim Roth, and Oscar® winner William Hurt, The Incredible Hulk is “steeped in action and spectacular special effects” (Claudia Puig, USA TODAY) and delivers a mind-blowing final showdown that can only be summed up with one word...INCREDIBLE!

Actors: Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, William Hurt & Tim Blake Nelson
Director: Louis Leterrier * Screenwriters: Edward Norton & Zak Penn

BETTY!!!! NOOOOO!!!

This movie always reminds me of the great potential that the Marvel Cinematic Universe had with Edward Norton as Bruce Banner! I respect Mark Ruffalo, but I honestly do not see him as Bruce Banner in any way.
FoxForce5 - 6/23/2014, 7:48 PM
The only problem is that it might have seemed kind of repetitive since it's a bit like the dream sequence at the beginning of Fight Club which also stared Norton.
SuperDude001 - 6/23/2014, 7:49 PM
Yeah....the logic of Banner ever willingly getting on a plane, and I doubt he'd just fall through the floor, or lose his cool at turbulance, it just wouldn't work even if it's Betty's daydream...still, if they incorporate it into a new film, the nightmare of Hulk on a plane would be amazing if done right. Like we've had him on the Helicarrier but in such a small setting would be mayhem.
FoxForce5 - 6/23/2014, 7:50 PM
@ Eustace: I like Ruffalo but also preferred north and as Banner.
CombatWombat - 6/23/2014, 7:51 PM
easily the worst movie in the MCU
SuperDude001 - 6/23/2014, 7:51 PM
But I think Ruffalo would pull off this scene much better than Norton's Banner. Ruffalo's seemed to have more fear and precaution, where as Norton's I think just focused on calmness to do this panic justice.
CombatWombat - 6/23/2014, 7:52 PM
to be fair, they were just getting started
SuperDude001 - 6/23/2014, 7:53 PM
CombatWombat @ Really? The film was great compared to Iron Man 2 and Thor:TDW in my opinion...but I guess it's easy to think diffrently
ComicsBornAndBred - 6/23/2014, 7:53 PM
Very cool

@FoxForce5
Ah yes, Fight Club -- another underrated movie. I know that there were a lot of disagreements between the filmmakers and the studio over the final cut of the movie. Still, I think that they were right to leave this scene at the storyboard stage.
nailbiter111 - 6/23/2014, 7:55 PM
CombatWombat - I take it you haven't seen Thor 2 or Iron Man 2?
nailbiter111 - 6/23/2014, 7:59 PM
Incredible Hulk's biggest flaw is the video game-ish CGI. If this film had The Avengers-quality Hulk it would be considered much more positively. There are some standout scenes. It's not the hot mess people make it out to be.
Jollem - 6/23/2014, 8:01 PM
easily one of the best marvel studios movies. before they got too goofy
Phronesis - 6/23/2014, 8:01 PM
God, this scene coulda been amazing if executed well. And on the topic, this is far from the worst MCU film. Definitely one of the best. It's well pacing and deep character arc for Banner is pulled off amazingly. But it's connection to the MCU leaves it feeling so empty. <--That's not a bad thing though, but I think that's why you probably hear the least about TIH.

I actually enjoyed this movie. The CGI was pretty bad during some scenes. But overall, good film.
Inhuman - 6/23/2014, 8:06 PM
We all know Hulk would have took Betty into his arms and braced for impact and landed on his back and both would have survived
Phronesis - 6/23/2014, 8:06 PM
@Jollem Too goofy? Hardly, they just added more fun/spectacle and humor to there films. While I do think Marvel, (in most cases), has captured the perfect balance between humor and drama, I feel the argument of the amount of is dumb. The amount isn't a problem, it's just that most of the time it's not funny (Thor The DarkWorld).
DawnOfJustice - 6/23/2014, 8:06 PM
Hulk on an airplane? Would love to see that. Not the helicarrier, but the small, narrow airplane.
Jollem - 6/23/2014, 8:07 PM

Incredible Hulk is great.

Iron Man 2 is the only subpar MCU movie.

The incredible hulk was such a horrible movie... hulk on an airplane? Need Sam. Jackson up in that...
Inhuman - 6/23/2014, 8:13 PM
Incredible Hulk is one of my favorite MCU films. I think its the 5th best MCU film so far

1. Avengers
2. Captain America 2
3. Thor 2
4. Thor
5. Incredible Hulk
6. Iron Man 3
7. Captain America
8. Iron Man
9. Iron Man 2

@nailbiter111

Awesome find, man. I don't know where you get these but keep it up. I love seeing things what could've been and imagining how it would've turned out.

I honestly thought the film was a bit too gloomy and boring, but it's far from the worst MCU film.
Inhuman - 6/23/2014, 8:15 PM
I know Iron Man 2 gets a lot of shit (rightfully so) but you have to admit its still better than more than half of the comic book movies Marvel produced pre-MCU and better than other studio comic book films (DC and others)
TheDuck - 6/23/2014, 8:16 PM
thank god that wasn't filmed
Jollem - 6/23/2014, 8:17 PM
Phronesis - 6/23/2014, 8:17 PM
Iron Man 2 had the right idea where to go... But most of the time it's side tracked because of the cheap plot device of setting The Avengers up.
Alfredo27 - 6/23/2014, 8:17 PM
the worst MCU movie? Did the trauma of watching the horror of watching Thor 2 make you forget it exists?
blackandyellow - 6/23/2014, 8:18 PM
That's how I feel when there's a crying baby on my flight. I just want to punt that little shit into the ceiling.
Jollem - 6/23/2014, 8:23 PM
1. Avengers
2. Incredible Hulk
3. Captain America 2
4. Thor
5. Captain America
6. Iron Man
7. Thor 2
8. Iron Man 2
9. Iron Man 3
JorL5150 - 6/23/2014, 8:26 PM
I really like this movie
TheDesertGorilla - 6/23/2014, 8:27 PM
