A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is being directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In), from a screenplay written by Mark Bomback, Scott Z. Burns, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The cast includes: Andy Serkis (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Public Enemies, The Great Gatsby), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises, The Harry Potter film series), Keri Russell (The Americans, Mission Impossible III), Toby Kebbell (The Prince of Persia, Wrath of the Titans, Rock N Rolla), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In, ParaNorman), Enrique Murciano (Traffic, Black Hawk Down), Kirk Acevedo (The Thin Red Line) and Judy Greer (The Descendants, Three Kings, 13 Going on 30). The film climbs into theaters July 11, 2014

12? is that right? have people been whining about the amount of t.v. spots for this?
Mike89 - 6/29/2014, 11:59 AM
So pumped for this movie. :)

Even the ubiquitous 'Inception' horn can't get me to scoff at any new footage from this film.

It really looks like they've outdone themselves.
Jollem - 6/29/2014, 12:06 PM
nobody's crying about "too many t.v. things" or "gives away movie" or none of that? weird
Humperdink - 6/29/2014, 12:12 PM
@Jollem

True. No one seems to mind.

All I know is the apes and humans will go to war and (whatever's left of) the military might get involved. That point is 'unspoilable' because it's inevitable.

There may be minor plot points in between that, but for me there isn't all that much to spoil outside of main character deaths and they usually don't show any of that in ads so I'm good.

I just want to watch it all unfold.

FOX can say : "thank you very much mister Pierre Boulle for write planet of the apes in 1963"...amazing and unique french writer. Lot of sucess box office with planet of the apes saga franchise. @Fabius

Are you also French?
I'm just curious.

The original is a classic. Undeniable and in my opinion ageless in it's concepts, criticisms of humanity and far-out ideas.

I think everyone knows that these films were made from the template laid out by the originals so I don't know if Fox NEEDS to specifically thank Pierre Boulle (if they already haven't) since it's implied that all praise for these films is due in part to the cultural impact of the first movie. The fact that they made these films are a testament to it's continued relevance so by extension it is also praise of Boulle.

But if it helps, I'll thank Boulle for his incredible achievement in sci-fi writing. It's deserved.

@ jollem

people moan about tv spots when they go into the twenties like the amazing spider-man 2 & transformers age of extinction.
Humperdink - 6/29/2014, 3:50 PM
Oh man... I just read this snippet from a review:

"In the annals of sequels, Dawn is to Rise of the Planet of the Apes what The Empire Strikes Back was to Star Wars -- it's that much better."
- Todd McCarthy, Hollywood Reporter

and I said last week that:

@Namor
I think Koba should kill Caesar.

This movie should end on a darker note, like 'Empire Strikes Back', and with the apes imprisoning the humans.

That should set us up for a third installment that takes place further in the future like the original film with much more advanced apes, and the descendants of Caesar are the peaceful apes pushing more of a liberal philosophy towards the humans. The other ones who follow a doctrine of superiority would be experimenting and exploiting on the human cattle.

It all should come full circle and could set up some sort of redemption scenario for both man and ape.

Caesar should die.
His children should live though.

Maybe I called it?
Caesar dies, Koba rises, or gets the anti-human movement going full swing.

@Humperdink
Yes I'm french. And huge first fan of Boulle. And I'm little bit bored when Hollywood forgot sources...
Espacially since so many times. Thanks ?They haven't. Except only one time for the first great movie with Heston actor leading role and director schaffner.
But just want to say : the book is the DNA the real begenning of all of it. All movies Fox used, in some way. The last two also. For Rise Fox never put the name in the credits. (Missing link...)Sorry big mistake.
But I'm ok. And thanks to you to thanks Pierre. God bless you.
