From 1981 to 1983, ABC ran a superhero television series called The Greatest American Hero. It starred William Katt as Ralph Hinkley/Hanley, Robert Culp as Bill Maxwell and Connie Sellecca as Pam Davidson. While it only lasted a few seasons, its rerun have persevered over the past decades. It is considered a cult classic.

Believe it or not, Fox is gonna take another stab at this premise. The creators of The LEGO Movie, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, will be the executive producers of the project. The show will be an hour-long and "will chronicle inner-city teacher Isaac’s adventures after his discovery of a superhero suit which gives him superhuman abilities." Furthermore,  "Unfortunately for Isaac, he hates wearing the suit, and has to learn how to use its powers by trial and error because he quickly misplaces the suit’s instructions." Isaac will even have his own "government handler" just as the original series had. His main struggles will be "whether he should use his newfound gifts to help others or just himself."

THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO - Ralph Hinkley (William Katt) is an ordinary school teacher who becomes extraordinary after an encounter with extraterrestrials leaves him with a power suit that transforms him into a superhero! But when he loses the suit's instruction manual, Ralph must learn by trial and error to control the capabilities and powers of his red magic outfit to fight the battle against injustice and crime. Created by legendary writer/producer Stephen J. Cannell, this complete first season collection includes all 8 acclaimed episodes from this multi-Emmy nominated series which co-stars Michael Pare and Faye Grant.

The theme for that show was the best, remember it as a kid...

SkylerMystwood - 8/29/2014, 3:08 PM
I loved this show as a kid. Went back and rewatched it a few years ago, and it was almost painful. Still, I'd love to see an updated, modern version of the show. I know Nathan Fillion had expressed a desire to do a big screen adaptation a few years back, before Steven J. Cannell died.

Ok I can dig it I saw bits of it on TV a couple of years ago it can work if done correctly
yingyangpalms - 8/29/2014, 3:40 PM
Just because CBMs are hot we get people trying to jump on the bandwagon by digging up old shit like this.

We should be seeing an Electra Woman and Manimal reboot soon,

George better keep his voicemail message.

a black man in a suit driving a dune buggy in a desert, being chased by bald white guys with shotguns, also in dune buggies.

THAT's some ORIGINAL writing dude.

I loved this show as a kid.

It was always funny when he would try to fly and then like go out of control for a minute and start screaming and flailing his arms.
Titanace - 8/29/2014, 7:08 PM

bs77 - 8/29/2014, 9:45 PM
When I was 6 years old this was the only tv show my parents let me stay up late to watch. What a classic 80's show. I remember waiting for that moment in every episode where Ralph would crash into a billboard or a wall. The F/X were pretty lame even for the 80's, but the comedy was priceless. Katt had the most ridiculous hair back then. He was great in HOUSE, another one of my 80s favs.
Timerider84 - 8/29/2014, 10:00 PM
I met William Katt, he's a great guy, he's very nice.

@nail- best not be fooling man!
JediPhilosopher - 8/30/2014, 1:30 AM
I predicted this two weeks ago. I'm not kidding. I didn't think I'd hear of it this soon though. I must be getting better at that. I'll have to try it on the lottery.
JediPhilosopher - 8/30/2014, 1:32 AM
The idea behind the show, aliens giving a human a "super suit" is kind of a good premise really.
Titanace - 8/30/2014, 5:15 AM
^especially without instructions.
wcwpoet - 8/30/2014, 9:44 AM
Lol I remember loving seeing these reruns as a kid but I know they wouldn't hold up much like how I use to like the 60s Batman show
Bread - 8/30/2014, 10:01 AM
@McGee I WAS GONNA POST THAT GOD DAMMIT
Bread - 8/30/2014, 10:04 AM
If Lord and Miller are doing it, then it will be good.
HeadPool420 - 8/30/2014, 12:53 PM
Watch the theme song be some crappy hip hop remake.
Lhornbk - 8/30/2014, 9:12 PM
The only good thing about that show was the song. Do NOT need a remake.
NillaSoul - 9/1/2014, 2:58 AM
I always thought this show slightly better than a Hanna/Barbera Saturday morning show, can take it or leave it.
VictorHugo - 9/1/2014, 5:39 AM
