when the co-creator defends bay you've got no chance of getting it changed.

don't like it boycott the movie.

Well, it's hardly a genius idea.

Alien races are used pretty freakin often in sci fi, adapting a unique idea into a more generic concept is the OPPOSITE of genius.

I feel like this movie is going to be a Transformers rip-off, but with turtles instead of robots.

So many sites are misinterpreting this..he's saying its genius sarcastically, because now they can come up with a whole planet of Turtles! ..and he doesn't like that idea. This is not SIDING with Bay!

Nail you left off Laird's sign out at the end..

Might help with the sarcasm translation.

This is an iffy idea. You can re-imagine all you want, that's what makes these things fresh and cool, but messing with key things like the origin isn't right. You change so much that it doesn't even seem like the same thing you remember from your childhood. And any amount of change that makes it to where the title TMNT can't even be used anymore, is a little too much change.

The number of movies with aliens... is too damn high.

I see what he's saying. It is not likely that this idea could work and it probably won't. But it is still within the realms of possibility. If Laird did an alternate version of TMNT, like Planet of the Turtles, wherein ninja-esque turtles are at war with Triceratons over a matter transporter created by The Fugitoid, then it could work.

@RorMachine, you're spot on! This is him being 100% sarcastic.

"it might actually work. I'm not saying it's probable, or even somewhat likely… but it IS possible."

He's basically saying that just like santa claus, or god might exist... this movie may be good. Anything is possible.

I for one enjoy Michael Bay movies, but if the turtles are aliens, I may actually boycott this movie... first time I'll ever boycott anything, but TMNT was sacred to me growing up and Bay better not mess it up!

The point a lot of you are missing is legally he can't say anything against bay and it's in his best interest to agree.

also... money makes whores of us all.

[frick] Michael Bay! all his movies are garbage.
he is just going to ruin this like he did with the transformers.

There's already a planet of turtles, which could be where Bay got his idea from:

Lert
Lert - 3/21/2012, 5:17 PM
they agree that Bay makes tons of money to do whatever he wants to and therefore its his decision to make the green Fkrs alien.. Money grubbin in hollywood knows that only avenger fans are going to see this anyway so what the hell would it hurt?

its a stupid idea, if we want alien turtles bring in a race similar to them but don't change the original plot.

no wonder a lot of people hate hollywood, did you not learn anything from the dragonball/doom movie?

I looked at it Ror and you could be right, but if it is sarcasm it is so hard to detect. That little word "joy" hints at what you mean, but again, don't know...shrug.
Gutts81
Gutts81 - 3/21/2012, 5:19 PM
*Le'sigh* I dont really have problem with this whole "new" take on TMNT. My real problem is M.Bay will really water down the idea that made it an original idea in the first place. TF was a [frick] franchise despite it being uber successful. And now he(M.Bay) is going make TMNT a supermodel/American car/Lens flare/explosion feast for the eyes only, and with out heart.

Turtles come from Earth.

eff you Bay and eff you defenders of Bay.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 3/21/2012, 5:21 PM
He seems to be genuine about wanting people to wait and see what else is said, but this can not in ANY way be seen as a defense of Bay. I would change the title to " Co-Creator Responds To..."

Here is more from Laird in the comments section..

"These Turtles are from an alien race." That is Michael Bay's exact quote. Now, I suppose if you look at it sideways, with your eyes half-closed, through a glass, darkly, and from a distance in low light, you MIGHT be able to interpret "These Turtles are from an alien race" in the manner you suggest. if that IS, in fact, what Mr. Bay meant, it has to go down in history as one of THE most poorly articulated statements EVER.

However, it IS remotely possible, and I still think TMNT fans really should wait until their worst fears are confirmed (or not) before getting up in arms (or not). -- PL

Was bay definitely giving the game away or possibly could it possibly just be bullpoo!
Seems as absurd an idea as having Tom cruise play a 6'5" , 220-250lb ex military cop and ha! Like that would ever happen...

Somebody is getting paid under the table. What the hell is going on here. This shit seems like the true fans are not going to win. I say we boycott. I know regular movie goers will check it out, little kids who don't know better but shit the true should avoid the flick if this indeed becomes realty
