Over the past week we've seen several clips from Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man, and I don't think it's a surprise that none of them feature even a sniff of The Lizard. After multiple viewings of the second trailer and glancing over promotional art like the one below, when it comes to The Lizard you can color me not impressed. I expected the look to improve, but now that seems like wishful thinking at best. And it's a shame because from what I've seen it appears as though the look of the main villain is the only thing they dropped the ball on. Even Spidey's basketball-textured suit is starting to grow on me. Could the movie still succeed even if the villain looks like a CGI mess?

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field, the films swings into theaters July 3, 2012 in 3D!

I'm not a fan of it. The movie still looks good, though.

im waiting for the final product, i just cant see him not having his snout i think this is ear;y stages of his change, i think his last change will be full lizard form, if you look at the trailer he clearly has a snout when he licks the girl, so i think hes gonna slowly change be more humanoid then towards the end for 1 maybe 2 changes he is going to be a hulking lizard badasss
BackwardGalaxy - 4/8/2012, 4:21 PM
@demonizer84 - you're gonna be waiting a long time... they don't put unfinished forms on merchandise
TheAmazingSpiderMan47 - 4/8/2012, 4:23 PM
i hope the final product has a snout
headlopper - 4/8/2012, 4:26 PM
Meh. Unimpressed.
NeoBaggins - 4/8/2012, 4:26 PM
So much FAIL with this shitty looking Lizard Man.
DavidGray - 4/8/2012, 4:29 PM
The movie looks great, but this "new" image of the lizard looks just like the old one, only with a photoshopped mouth (and the claws).
shiverman20 - 4/8/2012, 4:32 PM
struggling to care about this when I've got my focus on the MCU, almost like it just isn't relevant in comparison
MercWithAGun - 4/8/2012, 4:35 PM
excited to see this movie and how it turns out but every time I see the Lizard I look at it as another crappy alien, Because he doesn't look like a lizard imo he looks really odd I don't understand why they couldnt just take something from the newer king kong movies and then just minimize that but whatever time will tell.
Christuffer - 4/8/2012, 4:35 PM
They are building the movie up too much. Avengers is one thing...this whole, Spidey vs. Lizard deal just isn't gonna work in the movie's favor
Denn1s - 4/8/2012, 4:35 PM
ummm...bane is MUCH more butchered than lizard you know...at least lizard is based on the classic ditko designs. and he is succeeding in that: being a ditko drawing come to life. bane has nothing to do with the comic book version, at least costume-wise (you can always watch batman and robin for a faithful-looking bane.. so, stop complaining. i am personally looking forward to both films.
Supes17 - 4/8/2012, 4:40 PM
Why is he smiling?
PhetVanBurt0n - 4/8/2012, 4:42 PM
snout on Lizard = Ultimate's

why cant people learned that THIS IS NOT BASED ON THE ULTIMATE'S VERSION

its based on Steve Ditko's ORIGINAL version

uyyshh!!!
JimmyPesto - 4/8/2012, 4:43 PM

It does look like a Goomba!
nonserviam03 - 4/8/2012, 4:49 PM
I actually like the look of the Lizard. He's gotta be a sympathetic villain, and if he had a snout that would be a hell of a lot harder to pull off. The only thing I don't like is that he appears to be 100% CGI, and with that design they easily could have gone for a guy in prosthetics and makeup. A lab coat also would have been nice.
sonofsamadams - 4/8/2012, 4:49 PM
So much...fail.....
NeoBaggins - 4/8/2012, 4:50 PM
@Scabsallover LMAO! Thank you. But be careful, this dude is falsely reporting people that aren't crazy about this lizard.
RedFury - 4/8/2012, 4:51 PM
lmao you fanboys are ridiculous... Honestly if you had any real sense of design you'd see why they made him look like this. Stop pretending to know what your talking about and just wait until the film comes out. God, people will bitch about anything these days. Just be bloody happy the lizard is in the movie and is being played by a great actor.
dmadtroll - 4/8/2012, 4:52 PM
lizard looks like shit. nothing like the badass lizard in the comics! deym.
DCnerd46 - 4/8/2012, 4:53 PM
Why dwell on the Lizard? Plenty of comic book characters' appearances have been altered much more dramatically in cinema compared to this look.
JimmyPesto - 4/8/2012, 4:53 PM
Whatever. Anyway, I'm aware that's two Goombas, every Goomba was different, and if you can't see the similarity than you have a pretty strained imagination, in the nicest way possible.
leeharveyoswld - 4/8/2012, 4:57 PM
Goomba.
mctrinket - 4/8/2012, 4:58 PM
Goomba for sure.
Mikfly - 4/8/2012, 5:06 PM
"New AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Promotional Images of The Lizard" ... Plus a very opinionated review.

I would have liked to see 'What do you guys think of this Lizard?' opposed too "Could the movie still succeed even if the villain looks like a CGI mess?"

Regardless, the promotional image looks great! And yes, I think the movie will succeed (not everyone thinks the Lizard is a mess).
RexLaboro - 4/8/2012, 5:08 PM
We finally get the lizard and they [frick] it all up. Goomba with dull teeth.

FAIL!
Coloso - 4/8/2012, 5:13 PM
Goomba! Goomba! Goomba!

He he, couldn't resist (the similarity is uncanny).
thewonderer - 4/8/2012, 5:13 PM
@Spidermarvelite

No one even mentioned Bane. You just got all apprehensive that everyone agreed this design sucked.

The thing with The Lizard is that is that well how he should look IS IN THE NAME. Theres NO reason to change the design. This is the first movie in a series and it sets the tone.

With Bane, Nolan already established his setting and worked Bane into his vision. The design is actually good too and makes sense as Hardy's face would be covered up.

Its not like the hairy wrestling design was anything crucial to the character.

The labcoat and crazy Lizard shows you the horror of using these types of antitodes when they can go wrong.
LAWLZY96 - 4/8/2012, 5:21 PM
Saying that they butchered Bane doesn't somehow improve the way the Lizard looks. He looks like a Goomba.

I still think the movie looks good though.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 4/8/2012, 5:28 PM
Yeah, REAL half-man half-lizard monsters don't look anything like that!

TonyChu - 4/8/2012, 5:37 PM
@ SpiderMarvelite Calm the hell down, your getting mad because people have an opinion. Jezz! But anyway this is just concept art so stop judging the outcome of a film without even watching it. It goes the same with TDKR as well. Does Lizard kind of look like a goomba? Yeah, but he is one goomba that can whoop your ass!
TonyChu - 4/8/2012, 5:39 PM
Wow I love Spiderman as much as the next person but dude you need to get a [frick]ing grip.
Sortis - 4/8/2012, 5:45 PM
@SpiderMarvelite Soooo what I got from your post is it's a Goomba with a bigger head...cool, still a Goomba lol.

spiderman2020 - 4/8/2012, 5:47 PM
this movie is gonna great. its the hero that makes the movie, not the villain.
