A member of PrometheusForum.net was going through the French press conference for Ridley Scott's Prometheus, and found a nice little nugget. During the event it was revealed that the run-time will be 1 hour and 59 minutes, and there will also be an extended cut with an additional 17 minutes of footage.

Wow! So, we'll have multiple cuts for the film. I wonder if this means the shorter version is for a PG-13 rating while the extended version is for an R rating? We know Ridley Scott has been very outspoken about trying to get a PG-13 rating for the film, believing that his big budget film will have a harder time being profitable if it is rated R.

By the way the run time comments at the press conference are also verified on this French website, www.silence-action.com.

Prometheus Cast: Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron), Captain Janek (Idris Elba), Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green), Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and David (Michael Fassbender)

Prometheus will hit theaters on June 8th, 2012!

What is it with Fox always keeping their movies under 2 hours?
forthesakeofnow - 4/12/2012, 11:00 AM
@grif

its a losing battle you either make the computer systems look older than they did in alien (therefore pretty much abacas's) and people will complain.

or you make it look even more modern and people will complain

id prefer the latter, that way, less people complain

wow

Why is the runtime such a huge problem with everyone? 2 hours is probably plenty. A good story is as long/short as it needs to be. Add too much fluff and it becomes slow and dull and most cut footage is unnecessary anyway.
luffycapri - 4/12/2012, 11:10 AM
its all because fox is owned by sh$t heads
Kayo - 4/12/2012, 11:12 AM
good...........that should be it

This movie will blow us all away. Scott knows what he is doing. As long as the story and substance are all there I ok with 2 hours
SuperFrost - 4/12/2012, 11:15 AM
Can't wait for this either!

@monkeyballs3

i think he means the technology the people are using in the film
AlexDeLarge87 - 4/12/2012, 11:26 AM
Cant wait.

And i agree if its too long they can easily add too much stuff.
Running time doesnt matter as long as the movie is great. :)

2 hours is good enough for me!
AlexDeLarge87 - 4/12/2012, 11:28 AM
grif@ Judge after you´ve seen it. There could be an explanation for that.
forthesakeofnow - 4/12/2012, 11:31 AM
@Pux

im not trying to fight grif's battles but he has a point, if you make a prequel the world of the film set earlier needs to look like it was set earlier

its like all the ships in the star wars prequels being more modern looking than they did in the films set later on

Yeah let's go back to white walls with a bunch of blinking lights. That argument is just silly now.
BmanHall - 4/12/2012, 11:37 AM
Too short? I really wonder about some of you.

Running Time

Alien = 117 min (Special Edition = 116 min)
Aliens = 137 min (Special Edition = 154 min)
Alien 3 = 114 min (Special Edition = 145 min)
Alien Resurrection = 109 min (Special Edition = 116 min)
Prometheus = 119 min (Special Edition = 136 min)

The only one that is noticeably longer is Aliens. Other than that, I fail to see the problem. This movie will be just fine.

Is Charlize Theron a virgin?
batfan175 - 4/12/2012, 11:40 AM
jimoakley666 - 4/12/2012, 11:41 AM
Oow, a longer version too? May have to check both out. Really looking forward to this. I'd have preferred a two and a half hour film, but Ridley knows what he's doing. He can be a very economical director when it comes to time and cutting the BS.
Mugwamp - 4/12/2012, 11:58 AM
Let's break it down shall we? At under 2 hours the studios can have more showings of the film per day which brings them more money. 6 months after releasing the film they will put it on Blu-ray with some deleted scenes and other extras and say that it has over 4 hours of content which brings them more money.

6 months after that they will re-release the film as a directors' cut and add in all those deleted scenes plus a couple more and advertise on the box OVER 20 minutes of additional scenes, which brings in more money.

6 months after that they will sell a boxed set with both releases, a comic book, and a preview of the trailer for the sequel, which brings them more money. Are you getting the pattern here?
Ryguy88 - 4/12/2012, 1:09 PM
Why does every movie need to be a 3 hour epic? 2 hours is fine, if the story called for longer I'm sure it would be longer.
Sparrowsabre7 - 4/12/2012, 2:19 PM
^Two hours is more than fine IMO. If a film can tell a good story in 1hr 30 then so much the better.
R888 - 4/12/2012, 9:16 PM
Better be rated R
